Surrounded by mature palms and casuarina trees, Kai Tana offers a serene escape on a wide sandy beach with cozy accommodations for couples, honeymooners, or small families. The beach here is very sandy plus the reef-protected waters make for excellent snorkeling just off the backyard. Although barefoot water entry is tempting, water shoes are recommended to protect against foot injuries. Sunset walks along the shoreline in either direction are a must! Inside, the oceanfront living area provides all the comforts of home including tall windows that flood the interiors with natural light and stunning far-from-home ocean views. Air conditioning, complimentary wifi, and an HD cable television will keep you cool and connected during your stay. The home's kitchen is equipped with modern appliances including a drip coffee maker, toaster, and microwave. All cookware, dinnerware, glassware, and flatware are provided. You can enjoy full sun on the beach, or linger in the shade of the coconut trees sourrounding the house. The view is magnificent from both inside the house and out, and there was an omnipresent breeze to cool you off during the day and waves washing ashore to rock you to sleep at night. Kai Tana is a beautiful cottage in a very private setting, shielded on both sides by foliage and a good distance from neighbors. Perfect for the North Side which is quiet anyway. The lot is beautifully landscaped, especially the back facing the Caribbean Sea. It really makes you feel like you are in a true island paradise. Cottage is perfect for two to four people. Both bedrooms are a good size. The main bedroom is adjacent to the second bathroom and smaller bedroom has an ensuite bath. The small kitchen is located between the bedrooms and is a perfect size for a beach cottage – who is going to spend time in the kitchen anyway? Living and dining space are a good size and has an amazing full view of the Caribbean. The outdoor hardscape and furnishings are also quite nice and comfy. Access to the beach – just steps from the house. It is not much of a walking beach, especially because of the sargassum. Don’t forget your water shoes because they are definitely needed. During our two week stay we were able to kayak and swim several times but on some days the sargassum was too thick. When there is no breeze it can get quite buggy and the smell of the sargassum can waft up toward the cottage. Luckily there was a good breeze most of the time. There are two cats who occupy the small “cat house” on the east side of the cottage. They were nice company and determined, but unsuccessful in getting inside or handouts. ##### Robert D. Angella, the manager, was fantastic! Really helpful and really friendly, full of top tips! The bed was incredibly comfortable! The villa was spotlessly clean and really well kitted out! LOVED IT ALL! So why then have I knocked it down a star on the overall rating? It was the sargassum sea weed - there is nothing that the Kai Tana team can do about it, but we had planned to fall out of the villa and spend our days snorkeling on the reefs just there, but the sargassum made that utterly impossible. The sargassum was literally meters deep and went on for meter after meter, we couldn't even wade through it; and there were waves and waves of the stuff coming in! I KNOW the villa can do nothing on their own, but I really hope that the Cayman government will do something to get it sorted. All that said, we had the most relaxing time and really enjoyed our stay - and we will be back! ##### Julia S. It is always difficult making a decision based on looking at pictures and reviews online but Cool Change did not disappoint. The house is very nice with excellent furnishings and is kept very clean. The internet works well for those needing to connect and work a bit while on vacation. The beach is right outside the door and has the best sunrises each morning. Depending on the wind, the beach can have some seaweed when the wind is blowing straight off the sea directly at the home, as it did for our 1st couple of days but when the wind shifted it cleaned out and was very beautiful. Rum Point, Kaibo and Starfish Point are all within a 2-3 minute drive and are perfect areas to hang out. Being close to Rum Point means that it is much less populated than Georgetown and 7 mile beach area on the other side of the island as I am not a fan of crowds. We didn't see any other people when hanging out at the beach at Cool Change, and saw no more than 20-30 people in total at the large area of Rum Point. We would highly recommend this property and will book this place again on our next trip to Grand Cayman. If you like a private property that is quite with a secluded feel, pretty beach and some of the most amazing sunrises, this is the spot. ##### Gene S. My husband and I settled in comfortably and truly enjoyed our time spent in this lovely little slice of heaven. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The AC worked great. A constant ocean breeze allowed us to open the windows during the day. We utilized every single part of the house. The outdoor shower, the washer/dryer, the kitchen, the abundance of beach towels. We cooked every night but one. The one night we ate out we enjoyed the chefs 6-course tasting menu with pairings at Kaibo Upstairs. Amazing! We swam with Stingrays through White Sand sports and will never forget that experience. The beach is beautiful but the seaweed was terrible. Homeowner can’t change this but I think it’s worth noting that it impedes swimming, snorkeling and the view a bit. It was 2 feet thick in most places. Also, would love for them to add a dishwasher and a hammock. With as much as we cooked, it was a bit of a pain to have to hand wash all of our dishes on vacation. Also, there are perfect trees for a hammock! Other than those minor things, our time spent at Cool Change was perfect. We will be back! Almost forgot, Bernie, the property manager was so sweet and helpful. He does a great job with the upkeep of the home. ##### Jennifer B. You have to accept the 50/60 minutes drive from the airport and G-Town. You need to be chilled about the lack of shops within 10 miles. But to me that is all good. Iguanas and lizards abound, land crabs and the odd harmless snake make for great spots, and the constant breeze renders aircon unnecessary. Thus is a lovely place where even the presence of foul-smelling sargassum weed two feet deep in the beach and 10 metres out to sea rendering both useless for bathing or swimming should not spoil the holiday. You are close to no one, there is no crime, and the place is well-built and looked after. You can run to Kaibo in 15 minutes or walk in 30 and the road is quiet. A car is essential and you should stock up at Hurleys on day one as it is a long way later to shop. It is not Kansas, Toto, but a beautiful beach cottage,with all the basic needs including Wi-fi - what more do you need? ##### Jonathan D. It was not a problem to get to great dining opportunities, because the Rum Point Restaurant and Kaibo are 5 minutes away, Tukka and The Lighthouse only 20 minutes. The house is very classic West Indian construction and just the right size for a couple or small family. It has a private beach and even more isolation provided by a vacant lot covered in sea grape on one side and a high hedge of a flowering native shrub on the other. Mornings and afternoons on the back patio are fantastic; we drank our coffee and watched the sun rise each morning. The house stays very comfortable with AC in both bedrooms and the living room, and fans throughout. All of the amenities are relatively new, clean and well maintained. We never watched TV, but can vouch for the Wi-Fi. The North Side is the best part of Grand Cayman; uncrowded, serene and yet convenient to anything you would want to do. Nicely appointed and in a great location if you like privacy, peace and quiet. The only reason I’m not giving the house 5 stars is because the beach hadn’t been cleared and we were faced with a thick line of seaweed mixed with some trash to get to the water. I found a rake and was able to clear some myself. Some men came the last day of our stay and said they would clear the entire beach after we left, but this should have been done prior to our arrival.
