The best areas to stay in Nishinoshima are around Urago Port or Beppu Port, as these are the main hubs for accommodation and transport.Urago Port is the larger of the two and often considered the main gateway to Nishinoshima. It's where most of the island's amenities are concentrated, including many inns, restaurants, and shops. The area around the port offers easy access to the ferry terminal, making arrivals and departures straightforward. You'll find yourself close to the Nishinoshima Town Office and the local bus network, which connects to other parts of the island. For couples looking for a convenient and comfortable base, Urago Port is an excellent choice. Its central location means you're never far from a place to eat after a day of exploring, and the accommodation options tend to be more numerous and varied. You can easily arrange boat tours from here to see the spectacular cliffs of Kuniga Coast.Beppu Port, on the island's eastern side, offers a slightly quieter alternative. While it has fewer facilities than Urago, it still provides a good selection of guesthouses and local eateries. It's also a ferry terminal, making it equally convenient for island hopping.Solo travellers might appreciate Beppu Port for its more relaxed pace while still offering good accessibility. It's a great starting point for walks or cycling routes that lead to viewpoints and smaller, more secluded beaches.

The best time to visit Nishinoshima is typically during the spring (April to early June) and autumn (mid-September to November) months.Spring offers pleasant weather with mild temperatures, ideal for exploring the island's natural beauty, such as the Kuniga Coast. You'll find the landscape lush and green, and it's a great time for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling without the intense heat of summer.Autumn also provides comfortable temperatures and generally clear skies. This period is excellent for enjoying the scenic views and a more relaxed pace. The sea is often still warm enough for some water activities in early autumn.Summers (July and August) can be quite hot and humid, though it's peak season for swimming and other water sports.
