![The symbolism of the city’s patron is evident as soon as you visit St. Elisabeth Cathedral. Construction work on the Cathedral started around 1380. It is the furthest east western-style gothic cathedral in Europe, as well as the biggest temple of worship in Slovakia. It houses the fascinating Altar of St. Elisabeth, a rare gothic double spiral staircase – one of just five of its kind in Europe, the crypt of the leader of the biggest anti-Habsburg uprising in the former Kingdom of Hungary, Francis II Rákóczi, and also a sundial from 1477. The frescos and sculpting are the work of master Štefan, a local artist from the 15th century, which adorn its interior and exterior. Thanks to the fantastic view of the centre, climbing the 60-metre high northern tower is well worth the effort. As you come out of the Cathedral and have a good look at its front facade, maybe you can decipher the riddle as to why this Cathedral is unique to the world.

![The St. Elisabeth Cathedral can be found on main street in Košice. Construction began in the 14th century, and has seen many additions and renovations over the years. Today, it is the largest church in Slovakia, and a fine example of Gothic architecture.

"The reception and bar staff as superb, the hotel is jn a central location, easy to access and rooms can be accessed by lift or stairs. The breakfast buffet is 5stars - so much choice for continental choice - full English is not a tradition here so please don’t expect black pudding and beans as it’s continental but the food is perfect. The rooms were not cleaned daily - although we are clean, maybe fresh towels on the 3rd day would have been nice. Also we had to ask for pillows. The spa facility was out of action and I was only notified the day before travelling so cancellation was not an option. I would have preferred to know sooner or offered alternative. Would I book again, Kosice yes, this hotel, no sorry "

"The hotel room was nice and clean and quite spacious. Unfortunately, no hand towels were provided, the shower door let the water out and made the bathroom floor very wet which is quite dangerous. The bathroom door lock didn't work. The receptionists were very polite and helpful. The breakfast offered nice food selection . "
