The best area to stay in Moremi is within the Moremi Game Reserve itself, particularly in the northern and central parts, to maximise wildlife viewing opportunities. The Xakanaxa Lagoon area, situated in the heart of Moremi, is a prime location. It offers a mix of permanent water channels and dry land, attracting a wide variety of animals. Lodges here often provide both mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) excursions on the lagoons and game drives on land, giving you diverse ways to experience the wildlife. The landscape is characterised by floodplains, reeded islands, and mopane woodlands. For those seeking an exclusive and intimate safari, the Khwai Concession, bordering the reserve's northern boundary, is an excellent choice. This area is known for its high concentration of predators and its significant elephant population. Accommodation here typically consists of smaller, luxury tented camps, offering a more personalised service and flexibility with activities like night drives and walking safaris, which aren't always permitted inside the main reserve.Couples often find the Khwai Concession particularly appealing due to the intimate nature of the camps and the exceptional wildlife encounters.

The best time to visit Moremi is during the dry season, which runs from May to October, with July and August often considered peak months.During these months, the weather is generally dry and sunny, with cooler mornings and evenings. The lack of rain means water sources become scarce, concentrating wildlife around the permanent rivers and waterholes within the Moremi Game Reserve. This makes for excellent game viewing opportunities as animals are easier to spot. For those prioritising game viewing, the dry season is ideal. The sparse vegetation allows for clearer lines of sight, and animals like elephants, lions, and various antelope species are regularly seen around the Khwai and Okavango Delta floodplains. This is also a good time for activities like mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) excursions, as water levels are stable enough for exploration. While the dry season is popular and can be busier, the rewards in terms of wildlife sightings are significant.
