Unfortunately, I didn’t realize there’s no AC and it was excessively hot this weekend. So the windows had to be open and the street was the loudest street I have ever had outside a hotel. The front desk did bring a fan to the room, so the sleeping temp ended up being good. But it was unbearable in the room during the day. Pretty hotel and very walkable area.

the hotel is a nice older building; in general it was clean, spotless, as was the room. we stayed one night; basically arrived in Monterey, sight seed, then went to the hotel to shower and sleep. the building apparently has had additions and modifications. took the elevator to our floor; getting to our room was a little Trek, a map would have been helpful ;) in the morning, cleaned up, packed, went for coffee in the lobby (via the stairs), that was nice. checked out and on to more sight seeing.

I was interested in staying in the historic hotel, but didn’t realize absolutely no updates have been made.. overall it was fine, my family felt good in the hotel, walkable distance to restaurants we took our girls to the aquarium not too far Sad the hot tub was not serviced, no AC —but weather wasn’t bad luckily, nothing too special or nice about the rooms, parking was only available at a distance, but hospitable for the 2 nights would probably go to a newer hotel for next time, was a fine experience overall

Unfortunately, because I stayed during a holiday weekend, my room rate skyrocketed to nearly $500. The room itself was noisy and the pillows were completely uncomfortable, somehow managing to be simultaneously too stiff and too soft. Great location. Sort of felt like a quality inn or an econo lodge.

This old hotel is very charming and in an excellent location. Everything is good, except a mucky smell in the room. Don't know if it's due to the previous guest had a pet or the age of the house. Housekeeping very quickly brought a can of air freshener. That helped a bit.

It is a historic building with lovely architectural features, high coved ceilings, cornices, carved wood hand rails, and leaded glass windows. It is 122 years old so it wasn't designed for modern tastes so be aware of that, floors and stairs creak. I found it was easier to access my room going up the original staircase than to use the elevator in the newer section and then wend my way back to the older section of the hotel. I definitely got my steps in! It's central location made it easy for me to walk everywhere I needed or wanted to go (I was there for a wedding!)
