The location is also very good, you can do the most important sightseeing in one day on your own by walking: Plaza de la Constitutión, Catedral Metropolitana, Torre Latino and Templo Mayor. On side downside, the central location means it is a pretty loud place to stay. It is a vibrant active area. The hotel is a classic old Mexican building. Our room was huge with a balcony view of the street. The staff is extremely helpful, and there are plenty of people around to ask questions to, etc. They have a good restaurant that has quick and friendly service. The maids clean your room every day, including mopping the floors. The only issues are no heating or air conditioning, which we didn't need, and the street noise, because we were in the city center. If you shut the windows, it takes care of most of it, and it quiets down at night.This place is old, which is what we wanted. The bathrooms are clean, no mould spots, the beds are comfortable and the bedding also is spotless. Sure, it is a very old building (there is a plaque on the outside wall which says that someone of note died there in the 1850s) and it retains a lot of its original character. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the reception desk is manned 24 hours per day. The hotel is located in the Historic Centre of Mexico City, about a 10 minute walk from the zocalo. Several pedestrians only streets make this a colourful and interesting exercise. I have not felt uncomfortable or uneasy walking round this area in the evening. The restaurant does great breakfasts, also lunch and dinners.
