LOGIS HÔTEL LES MARÉCHAUX

10/10 Excellent

"Very welcoming place to be."

Hotel Le Maxime, BW Signature Collection

8/10 Good

"Great location on the river bank and in the old town. 5 mins from cathedral. This is an historic hotel so rooms were small but well furnished. Good private, secure parking in hotel."

Le Domaine de la Clarté

10/10 Excellent

"This was a great property and a very fair price. Super well positioned if you are touring north Burgundy as it 4 mins from the A6. A huge supermarket just 11 mins away. Well equipped kitchen. My only problem was that all the communications came through Expedia including the code to get the key. So you need to be really sure you can access your Expedia messages to enter the property. Several guests were struggling a little bit with access when we were there - although they all seemed to get in eventually!"

Hostellerie des Clos

10/10 Excellent

"Nice quiet hotel in a quaint town. Restaurant was very good. I would stay there again for sure"

Kyriad Direct Auxerre Appoigny

10/10 Excellent

"The staff were really friendly and helpful, our room was single storey which meant we could park the Motorbikes outside our door. And they served beer !! Restaurants are either next door or a short walk away."

B&B HOTEL Auxerre Monéteau

10/10 Excellent

"Great stop off when travelling"

Auberge de la Beursaudiere

10/10 Excellent

"The staff were very helpful and welcoming from the start. I had a lovely room and enjoyed a very nice dinner and breakfast on the morning. Thank you for a lovely stay."

Ibis Budget Auxerre Nord (Ouverture Printemps 2025)

10/10 Excellent

"Great room, good for a family stopover."

Mercure Auxerre Autoroute du Soleil

10/10 Excellent

"Nous avions une situation particulière à notre arrivée et la préposée nous as fourni une chambre, même si nous sommes arrivée à 8h00 le matin. Ce fût des plus apprécié. L'hotel offre les 3 repas par jour, ce qui est un atout. Très bon petit déjeuner. Chambre spacieuse et bonne climatisation. Seul bémol, la piscine est très creuse (de 1,50 à 1,90 M), donc à déconseiller pour les jeunes enfants. Stationnement facile d'accès et spacieux."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Merry-Sec?

The best area to stay in Merry-Sec is within the village itself or the immediate surrounding countryside, offering the most authentic experience of Bourgogne. The village of Merry-Sec is small and picturesque, centred around its historic church. It's a very quiet and peaceful area, ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. You'll find a few local producers offering regional specialities, and the pace of life is wonderfully slow. For couples seeking a tranquil retreat, a stay in a gîte or a small, independent hotel within the village allows for a truly relaxing break with easy access to walking paths and local charm. For families, staying in one of the larger properties just outside the main village offers more space and privacy. These often come with gardens and are perfectly situated for exploring the wider Bourgogne region by car, with attractions like the Morvan Regional Natural Park within easy reach.

When is the best time to go to Merry-Sec?

While Merry-Sec is a year-round destination, the best time to visit for most travellers is from May to September, when the weather is generally warm and pleasant.During these months, the countryside is at its most picturesque, with vineyards in full leaf and sunflowers blooming in nearby fields. This period is ideal for outdoor activities such as walking or cycling along the Canal du Nivernais, which is easily accessible from Merry-Sec.Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find the late spring and early autumn particularly appealing. The weather is milder, great for exploring local markets in nearby towns like Clamecy or Vézelay, or enjoying a leisurely meal at a regional restaurant with outdoor seating. The grape harvest season in September and October also offers a unique insight into the local winemaking culture, with opportunities for vineyard tours and tastings. For those interested in exploring the region's historical sites, such as the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine in Vézelay, the summer months offer longer daylight hours, allowing for extended day trips.
