![Home of Freeman Walker, outstanding citizen of early Georgia. Born in Virginia in 1780, he came to Richmond County in his youth and studied law. Freeman Walker, in 1826, deeded 70 acres of land to the United States Government to be used as an arsenal-the site now of the Junior College of Augusta. He reserved one acre as a family burial ground, known as the Walker Cemetery. He was the father of Maj. Gen. W. H. T. Walker, CSA. Admitted to the bar in 1802, he followed a life of public service; City Attorney for three years and Mayor of Augusta 1817-19, being the first to hold the city´s chief executive office under the name of Mayor, and Brigade Inspector of Gen. Valentine Walker´s brigade in 1813. He represented Richmond County in both branches of the State Legislature and represented Georgia in the U. S. Senate. His speech on the Missouri Compromise attracted nation-wide attention.

"The gentleman running the breakfast area was late to work, everyone was in the lobby waiting. Every seat was taken. I stopped in to the cafe area to sit in a chair. He was rude and tild me he doesn't let anyone in unril he has the breakfast put out. I told him i just wamted to sit amd wait amd there was no place to sit in lobby. He said again he didn't let anyone sit un there till breakfast waa ready. I reminded him breakfast was from 6 to 10 am not whenever he decided to show up for work. I left and told him to have a hreat day. Customer service is his only job. Someone need to train him. "

"Front desk staff was amazing. Friendly, helpful and attentive. Best Western is one of the few hotels that has a reasonable pet fee. I am usually only spending one night on the road with my dog and fees for a place to stay have tripled in the past few years. I hope Best Western keeps doing what they are doing!"
