More than 4 people? Consider adding on the Indian Lake Lodge, just diagonal from Cabin #1 Consider this cabin a simple upgrade from camping. Along the shoreline of Indian Lake, this old-school (1940s) cabin is an ideal get-away for the small family or couple who used to like to camp, or wants a more rustic experience. Walking around the cabin, the ground is uneven in places. Please watch your steps. There are cottages within earshot, as this was once the Mountain Ash Resort, a historic spot for many years. The shoreline is rocky, so it isn't easy (though not impossible) to hop into the water directly in front of the cabin. Due to the rocks, swim shoes are suggested. Swimming directly n front of the cabin is not ideal for small children. When you are at Indian Lake Cabin #1, feel like you are a part of the water at Indian Lake. We are located in Manistique, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. Located along Indian Lake, which is 8,400 acre Spring fed lake. Indian Lake is the fourth largest inland lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula with an area of 8,400 acres. It is 5 miles long and 3 miles wide. Indian Lake has a maximum depth of 18 feet with about 90 percent of the lake less than 15 feet deep. Game fish include perch, walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, rock bass, small mouth bass, bluegill, sturgeon and brown trout. It is rocky along the shoreline, except in a tiny, sandy area. The lake has a sandy bottom, yet you have to walk through the rocks in order to hit the sand. This area is great for swimming, hiking, golfing, biking, fishing, hunting and sight seeing. Spend the day boating, read a book on the deck under the umbrella, or enjoying the tiny sandy beach area. Then, spend the evening having a tasty barbecue and a soothing bonfire. You are literally steps (10 or so) from the lake. Gorgeous, wide open view of the water. Enjoy being outside in the fresh air! This cabin provides a kitchen with dishes, cooking utensils, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, fridge and a gas stove. Artesian well water. Feel free to enjoy time under the community pavilion with the newly paved sitting area, and sandy bottom swimming. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS Bedroom#1: 1 Queen Bedroom#2: Bunk Bed Style: a full-size bed on bottom and a twin bed on the top (only suitable for children under 100 lbs) BATHROOM: Only 1\. Has toilet, sink and shower (no tub) LOCAL ATTRACTIONS Big Springs "Kich-iti-kipi": Michigan's largest freshwater spring. Two hundred feet across, and 40-feet deep. Over 10,000 gallons a minute gush from fissures in the underlying limestone at a constant 45 degree Fahrenheit. By means of a self-operated observation raft, visitors are guided to vantage points overlooking fascinating underwater features and fantasies. Ancient tree trunks, lime-encrusted branches and fat trout appear suspended in nothingness as they slip through crystal waters far below. Clouds of sand kept in constant motion by gushing waters create ever-changing shapes and forms, a challenge to the imagination of young and old alike. Indian Lake Golf Course: A very popular, 18 hole golf course along Indian Lake. Just 5 miles from the Cabin. The Kewadin Casino: It is approximately 10 minutes (7 miles) from the Lodge. Historic Manistique Water Tower : The Old Water Tower is one of the many historic sites in Schoolcraft County. Built in 1923 and constructed in the “Roman revival” style, it is also listed in the national register. The renovated building will provide space for arts related public events and public rest room facilities while preserving one of Manistique's unique and historic buildings. Fayette State Park & Historic Townsite: Fayette was once one of the Upper Peninsula's most productive iron-smelting operations. Located on the Garden Peninsula at Snail Shell Harbor. When the charcoal iron market began to decline, the Jackson Iron Company closed its Fayette smelting operation in 1891\. It is now a completely restored village including 22 historic buildings, museum exhibits and the visitor center, which can be toured May through October. The historic site is located in Fayette State Park. \*Mackinac Bridge- approximately 1 hour away. \*Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore- approximately 1 hour away. \*Tahquamenon Falls State Park- approximately 2 hours away. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Air Conditioning: 1 window unit Association: This cabin is a part of the Mountain Ash Condo Association. Back in the 1980's this was known as the Mountain Ash Resort. Each of the cabins is now privately owned. Freshwater Vacation Rentals manages 3 of the cottages: Indian Lake Lodge, Birch Breeze Bungalow #9 & Indian Lake #1\. There are no other rentals on this property. The rest are the owners you see are just enjoying their home. Many of the owners live here all summer. Beach: The beach area outside the pavilion is small, and it is just used for swimming. It is not for docking boats. The association does not allow boats to be pulled up and left all night. They must be taken to the Indian Lake State Park and trailered back and forth each night. Boats: While we love the new dock, if your boat has a deep bottom, it may be too rocky to pull your boat up as far as you would like. We highly recommend you pull your boat each night due to the high winds and waves that Indian Lake creates. A friend's boat was actually sunk by the waves a few year's back, so now we are extra cautious. Need a rental? Check out the Curtis Fish and Hunt Shop You can paddle to Indian Lake in about 2 minutes, it's just across the street and the headway is just a couple hundred yards away. Cell phone service: Cell phone service is generally unreliable in the Upper Peninsula when you travel outside of Marquette and Escanaba. Closest Grocery Store: Jack's Fresh Market: 735 E Lake Shore Dr, Manistique, MI 49854 Firepit & Firewood: There is a portable fire pit on wheels. We do not guarantee there will be firewood available during your stay. Many times, you will find firewood left in close proximity to the cottage, that you are welcome to use. Fish cleaning hut: We have a communal fish cleaning hut that is used by 12 cabins within the Mountain Ash Association. Still, if you are fishing for & henceforth cleaning your salmon, we do need you to clean your salmon at the Harbor Boat ramp fish cleaning station where they have a large grinder for the leftover fish parts. (Open May-end of September) Grill: There is a charcoal grill provided for your use. Guns: We can not allow target shooting anywhere near the Indian Lake (Mountain Ash Association) Cottages. There are neighbors close by. Plus, there are local 2 gun ranges in the area that are accessible. Internet/WIFI: Yes! Noise: Since neighbors are so close, we do have a strict 10p-8a quiet time. Parking: 1 car is preferable, 2 cars max. No RVs. (Per Mountain Ash Association guidelines) Pavilion: As a guest, you are welcome to use the pavilion to spend time along the water, cook or enjoy the small beachy area. The Indian Lake State Park, just 1 mile around the bend has a more expansive pavilion/ sandy beach area. Pets: I'm sorry, yet due to safety concerns, we will no longer be able to welcome pets of guests to any of the cabins at the Mountain Ash Association. The only way to have a pet with the Mountain Ash Association is to purchase a cottage. Owners are allowed to have pets, yet guests are not. My apologies for this inconsistency, yet it is a part of the strict association by-laws. Yes, this owner does bring in his dog at times, so it is not an allergen-free environment. Play area: There is a small children's play area with plenty of room for outdoor children's games across from the community grilling area. Towels: Yes, we have both basic towels and linens for your stay. Swimming: The sandy swimming beach area right next to the cabin, with a convenient pavilion and community grilling area. Water (well): Our water has passed all the county water tests. Séjour de 4 nuits en août 2025 ### 4/10 – Médiocre #### Zondra H. 9 août 2025 It was a safe location, however some serious effort needs to be made to repair not only the cabin but much inside. A bedroom door that was a hallow wooden folding door with the screws nearly pulled out... Didn't use that room, the entrance door letting a half inch of light in at the bottom and the world showing on the sides to let nonstop bugs in, or the 3000 table and chairs next to the lake that had spider eggs, webs and green mold on them.. Shower handles installed incorrectly, a sink with no vent as putrid smells coming in when water not running... Newer slider but door broken and some make shift handle screwed in place... Hot as all hell and a crappy window air conditioner in a window with curtains not blocking the sunlight making the whole place hot. Deck not to code, stairs scary, a may over roots and a hole at the bottom of the stairs... no ladder to get in water from dock... It was not the best and not worth what we paid. The location was gorgeous and very convenient, close enough to Manistique if we needed something. The property manager was quick to respond to any messages we sent. The cabin is rustic, but met all of our needs. We especially appreciated the window air conditioner as the cabin gets very hot and stuffy on hot days. Pros: The cabin is well appointed with all that you need to be comfortable. It has a beautiful view of the lake and a quiet location. Cons: The outside of the cabin is very worn. The front steps need repair as they bend significantly under weight. The toilet makes an alarming sound like it might explode when you flush it. We were assured that it was just water in the pipes, but I think at least a sign near the toilet should be placed to alert guests. ##### Katherine T. The view was amazing, loved watching the sunset each night. The dock was a plus with our boat. The cabin was a cabin. They provided games also. I recommend a guide on how to use the TV. Also the toilet makes a really loud noise after flushing. We had a no night flush rule..with the obvious exception. Haha. Will definitely use this company again. ##### Cassandra E. The location on Indian Lake was very nice, but the cabin itself was very rundown. For example, the shower curtain rod was duct taped to the shower. One window in the main living area that didn't have a blind, had a piece of fabric thumb tacked to the wall to cover the window. For the price we paid, I expected a much nicer cabin. ##### cheryl p.
