With large, airy rooms and frescoed walls, it is an enchanting example of the summer residences built by the noble families of Lucca in centuries past to escape the heat and noise of the city. Furnished with antiques and with minimal changes to the original building, the villa will charm aesthetes and culture enthusiasts alike. The property is set within a large stone-walled garden, typical of the region, which hosts centuries-old trees and several water points and possibilities for al fresco dining and relaxing. Built on several plateaus, all with their distinctive atmosphere, the gardens create wonder and excitement at every turn, providing both intimate spaces and large lawns of lush green grass. The alleys, dotted with lemon trees, lavender and local herbs contribute to create a priceless out-of-time feeling. Located 5 km from Lucca, the villa is an ideal base to enjoy the Tuscan countryside and is within easy reach of the main cities in Tuscany such as Florence, Pisa, and even Sienna and San Gemignano. The Versilia coast (Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi) with nice beaches, excellent restaurants, nightlife and shopping facilities is a 30-minutes’ drive away. While the walled garden provides absolute privacy, the property is also within walking distance of the main square of Ponte a Moriano. The villa is a made up of a single building with a surface of 2,500 m² spread over 4 floors, each with a distinct look and atmosphere, testament to the multiple functions of villas in the past. The first floor, with its high ceilings and frescoed walls, was historically the owner’s residence. The ground and second floor offer a more rustic feel with thick wooden beams and dark terracotta floors. Ground floor: The main entrance hall, which used to be the ballroom, leads to a large wine cellar lined with old wine and olive oil barrels, a play area with a billiard and a ping pong table and 1 bedrooms with ensuite bathroom and direct access to the garden. A separate entrance also provides access to a fully-equipped summer kitchen complete with an old stone oven which can be used to cook pizza. The first floor hosts a majestic dining room, two spacious living rooms and a reading room with floor to ceiling antique bookshelves, a large kitchen with a direct access to the garden and 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. The second floor includes 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and two large living rooms. Included services: 3 hours of daily housekeeping (except Sundays), linen change on Saturday, gardner and pool attendant, welcome basket. Extra services: extra services can be arranged at the time of booking. Examples include wine tastings, chef service, daily breakfast service, pizza nights, extra housekeeping, etc. Do not hesitate to ask for our trusted providers! ## Property amenities ### Beach - Beach loungers - Beach towels ### Pool/Spa - Private pool ### Internet - Available in the villa: Free WiFi ### Parking and transportation - Parking on site ### Kitchen - Coffee/tea maker - Cookware, dishware, and utensils - Dishwasher - Microwave - Oven - Refrigerator - Stovetop - Toaster ### Bedrooms - 12 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 8 private bathrooms - Bathtub - Bathtub or shower - Bidet - Hair dryer - Shower - Soap - Toilet paper - Towels provided ### Living spaces - Fireplace - Living room - Separate dining area ### Entertainment - Books - Music library - Stereo - TV with cable/satellite channels ### Outdoor areas - Balcony - Barbecue grill - Garden - Outdoor furniture ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Comfort - Air conditioning - Heating ### Pets - Pet friendly ### Suitability/Accessibility - Designated smoking areas ### Services and conveniences - Iron/ironing board ### Location highlights - In a rural location - In a village - Near a hospital - Near an outlet shopping mall ### Things to do - Arcade/game room - Bicycles - Billiards/pool table - Foosball table - Table tennis - Ecotours nearby - Hiking/biking trails nearby - Motor boating nearby - Mountain biking nearby - Rafting nearby - Sailing nearby - Swimming nearby - Winery tours nearby ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property; consider bringing a portable detector) - Smoke detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a smoke detector on the property) - First aid kit - Fire extinguisher - Deadbolt lock ### General - Bicycles - Garden - Unit size: 26,910 square feet ## Similar properties ![Outdoor dining](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/35000000/34410000/34401100/34401036/4ffd6e26.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Tenuta Bellosguardo on the hills with Swimming pool and Jacuzi! Lorenzo was an amazing host, very communicative and accommodating. We hired a pizza chef and another chef a couple times which I would highly recommend. We also used the kitchen to cook for our big group, and it had everything we needed. The villa did get a little warm during the peak heat of August, but the fans in each bedroom helped. The property is beautiful, exactly like the pictures. We did require cars to go to the grocery store and Lucca about a 15-20 minute drive away. Would highly recommend! ##### Olivia Z. I can hardly express how lovely it was staying at Villa Trenta! It was the perfect place for our large international family reunion. The photos show the beauty of the rooms, but do not quite convey how large and comfortable they are. The whole property--the swimming pool, the game rooms, the wine cellar, the patios, etc.---provided so many places for us to convene in groups, both large and small. Lorenzo was the perfect host: gracious and helpful yet never hovering (he lives elsewhere nearby). He helped us arrange a catered dinner, a professional wine tasting, and a pizza dinner baked in the ancient oven in the villa. All delicious! He also gave us a tour and tasting of Villa Trenta's wines and olives and limoncello. Wonderful! As if that were not enough, Lorenzo gave us a thorough talk on the history of Villa Trenta, which has been in his family for over 100 years (a mere fraction of the villa's lifetime). I cannot recommend a stay at Villa Trenta highly enough. ##### Daniel H. Stayed 7 nights in Jul 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Michael P. Jun 17, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### The trip of a lifetime We organized a group of our family and friends (24 of us) to rent this villa for two weeks in May 2024. Working with Lorenzo made the process so easy as he was highly responsive to our questions and our needs as well as being a charming host. With his help we were able to arrange a pizza night meal, a chef prepared dinner, ebike rental and a yoga class. The villa itself was wonderful. The rooms were beautifully decorated with antiques, beautiful carpets and frescos. The gardens were heavenly, scented with jasmine, roses and lemon trees and surrounded by olive groves. The villa was built in the 15th century on the outskirts of Lucca in a charming village named Ponte a Moriano. Ponte a Moriano has a lovely Tuesday morning produce, flowers, and clothing outside market. The village also has a number of shops, bakeries and resturants. We had several memorable meals at Ristorante Erasmo. The village has a railroad station that will take you to Lucca in a matter of minutes. We enjoyed our excursions to Lucca, a wonderful walled Tuscan city with great shopping, beautiful churches, daily opera performances and a park built on top of the wall around the city. From Lucca there are frequent trains to Florence, Piza and other Tuscan towns. ##### Michael P. Stayed 14 nights in May 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jennifer C. Aug 15, 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Magical Stay in Lucca We were a group of 18 women celebrating a milestone birthday in July 2023. Lorenzo's place was recommended to us and our stay there can really only be described as magical. From the huge rooms filled with antiques, to the chiming bells, saltwater pool and morning breakfasts, everything about our stay in this wonderous villa was perfect. Lorenzo is a consummate host and helped us arrange meals and made local recommendations, including some excellent lunch spots in Lucca. The villa is about 15 minutes from Lucca, and really, a car is a must if you're going to stay here. The minute you cross through the gate into the pea gravel drive, you are transported into another time. The villa is huge, so comfortably accommodated our party of 18. We had arranged for a chef to come in daily to make us breakfast, a pizzaola to make one dinner and a chef to make three other dinners. The rest of the time we dined in or around Lucca, which has some excellent restaurants. The pictures do not do the villa justice. It is charming and special - but if you are looking for modern, this is not the place for you. The bedrooms are massive, and the mattresses are new, clean and superbly comfortable. We really felt that we were a part of the place, not merely staying there, and that feeling is not something that is easily replicated. If you have the good fortune to be able to book Villa Trenta, you should. ##### Jennifer C. Stayed 7 nights in Jul 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Antoinette S. Ideally located for sightseeing in all of Tuscany, yet a quiet and comfortable retreat with a lovely pool and game room for fun and entertainment. Lorenzo and his team are very responsive and helpful without being intrusive to your privacy. We enjoyed every moment and only regret that our visit went by too fast. We highly recommend this property for a memorable and authentic Italian experience. ##### Antoinette S. Stayed 14 nights in Jun 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Eric O. Villa dates to the 14th century and is clean and spacious. Mattresses were very comfortable. Kitchen had two dishwashers and 2 oven/ranges. Owner maintained communication and was responsive throughout. We enjoyed our stay. ##### Eric O. Stayed 7 nights in Sep 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jonathan C. Lorenzo, the host and family member of the property, was a gracious host from the check-in and departure from the Villa. Our group had a memorable time and found this 15th Century Villa with more than enough space. We also had several chef-cooked meals recommended by Lorenzo, which turned out to be fabulous. The freshly made pizza by Miguel was out of this world and allow us to appreciate Miguel's family recipe for making pizza, from preparing the dough to placing it in the wood fire oven on site. I want to take this opportunity to thank Lorenzo, the host, and the staff for a highly enjoyable stay. We shall be back in Tuscany to visit our new in-laws. Do not hesitate to book this amazing property! We travelled as a group of four families from Canada (16 people, including 8 children/teens ranging from ages 8-18 plus 8 adults) and it had more than enough lovely bedrooms and bathrooms plus so much more! The house is so incredibly beautiful and full of character and history and the pool and grounds, including an amazing eating and lounging area, and a lovely small church with bells chiming from the bell tower, were equally beautiful. We spent our days lazing by the lovely pool, cooking amazing meals in the very well equipped kitchen and eating them out in the gorgeous outdoor eating area or grand indoor dining room, reading books and visiting inside and outside the villa in its many comfy spots, and enjoying playing pool, ping pong and bocce. The host, Lorenzo, could not have been more attentive and hospitable, even bringing us candles and lanterns during an unexpected power outage during a large thunderstorm, and arranging for three amazing meals by chefs who came and cooked them for us at the villa (including pizza night, which was amazing). Thank you, thank you Lorenzo for your hospitality and for allowing us to experience your gorgeous villa and property! We cannot recommend it highly enough and can't wait to return! ##### Teresa F. Mid July was definitely a hot time of year, but the villa amenities made for a delightful vacation. We all spent much time in the pool, especially the kids. We enjoyed the cooler mornings and casual breakfast to start our day. We then moved on to daily excursions, including beach, Lucca, Florence, and Pisa. Gelato was sampled in every location. We made some amazing meals together, including three dinners prepared in the pizza oven. The nearby grocery was a daily trip and had everything we could want (including very inexpensive wine). Dinners started around the large outdoor table and then retired to the outdoor seating area for hours of continuing fun. The wines from the cellar were a lovely complement. Lorenzo’s hospitality and the beauty of the villa made for a vacation experience we will treasure for years to come. ##### Terry S. Stayed 7 nights in Jul 2022 ### 10/10 Excellent #### ian J. Sep 7, 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Life behind the velvet ropes Normally, places like this can only be found in cordoned off museums leaving you to wonder what life might be like behind the velvet ropes. As it turns out, quite nice actually. Indeed, a magical place awaits with comfortable antique furnishings, hidden treasures, personal touches and just enough modern conveniences to make the stay easy without spoiling the ambiance. It’s larger than you might expect, the size of a small hotel, and no two rooms are alike. We came from different parts of Canada and the U.S., family and friends, ranging in age from 16 to 80, from different walks of life. The pretext was my father’s 80th birthday but the villa wound up serving as the backdrop for my sister’s storybook wedding. Flowers sourced from Ponte a Moriano adorned the white tabletop in the vine-covered terrace for the event. Lorenzo arranged the catering from chef Celine. She comes with our highest recommendation as does the pizziaiolo who catered our wood-fired oven pizza night. The renaissance-era villa has a rich history. Pictures do not adequately capture its grandeur. Reputedly, Puccini once played the piano in the music room, though it may have been the last time it was in tune. The place has a softer feel to it than one might expect from its tiled floors and masonry and it has a surprising way of both embracing and elevating its guests. This might help explain its consistent five-star reviews – as would its gracious, accessible, helpful and friendly hosts. I think I shall always remember playing chess on the antique chess table, with the shutters open to the fresh Tuscan air and Puccini on the stereo – the most idyllic setting for a chess game ever devised. I shall remember how beautiful my sister looked in her white dress tossing fresh flowers with her hubby, like royalty, from the veranda to their guests in the courtyard below, the cool and refreshing waters of the saltwater pool, the extraordinary collection of people staying with us, the taste of freshly picked grapes from the grounds, the ring of the bells of the adjacent bell tower marking the hours, the Tuscan hills in the distance, the laughter in our hearts and the finest of Italian cuisine and wine I have tasted. If you are not one to be moved by such things, then you have something seriously wrong with you and should probably stay at home. Five stars, without hesitation. ##### Terry Z. ### 10/10 Excellent #### susannah c. We were a three generation family group of 20 ranging in age from 88 to 4 and the Villa was perfect for us. Everyone had plenty of beautiful spaces. Riccardo cook for us for three nights, which was just lovely. We also had a group come in and do pizzas in the old pizza oven one night which was delicious and tons of fun for the 8 grandchildren. Lorenzo was absolutely lovely and easy to deal with both before we arrived and once we were in the villa. There is a fairly nice 5 mile biking trail into Lucca that we used as a walking trail most mornings. The views from the hike up to the Monastery are lovely. And the road walk to Villa Reale was quite lovely too. ##### susannah c. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Kim A. It's hard to believe, but Villa Trenta is even better in real life than it looks in these gorgeous photos. The owners are lovely and responsive, and although the villa is regal and elegant, it somehow feels as if you are staying with family friends. We had a combination of family and friends with us, aged 1 to 75, and we created some wonderful new memories together that we will cherish across three generations. I would say that a couple of the rooms with twin beds, although nice, are quite a bit less impressive than most of the other bedrooms, so if you are dividing up costs and charging families individually, you may consider charging less for those rooms. ##### Kim A. The grounds were stunning. Rooms were nice and spacious. We enjoyed dinner nightly on the terrace. Lorenzo was always available to answer any questions we had. ##### megan o. And we were never disappointed, not even once. My first piece of advice to all potential guests is to read the online reviews for Villa Trenta. They are honestly true in their praise. Our party was a group of 17, family and friends from the U.S. and Europe, spanning 3 generations, with ages ranging from 2 to 69. It was a celebration that reflected a dream many of us shared, which was to spend two weeks in a Tuscan villa that would be grand enough to provide the perfect setting for chef-prepared group dinners, but just as importantly to offer enough inviting nooks and crannies for people to relax with a good book in the privacy of their own company, if desired. The reviews I read captured these aspects of the villa perfectly. Also very accurate were the descriptions of the villa's lovely grounds and gardens, the very well-tended and much appreciated swimming pool, its proximity to the little town of Ponte a Moriano with its handful of good restaurants, bakeries and butcher shops, and finally the reassuring fact that the full time resident property owner/manager Lorenzo, lives just a few steps up the hill from the villa. Lorenzo speaks beautiful English, which proved to be a tremendous advantage for our group. He also knows the villa inside and out, since the property has been in his family for over a century, and was the place of his own family gatherings for many years. Lorenzo also knows his way around Tuscany very well, and can direct his guests to any number of service professionals, from chefs to custom tour operators. I can vouch for the reliability and professionalism of his contacts. The villa itself is perfectly situated for day trips to a great variety of destinations. We enjoyed using the local train for the short trip to and from Lucca. However, in order to really get to know Tuscany, my advice is to rent a car. Villa Trenta has been modernized in the ways that make staying here very comfortable for today's travelers. However, the charm and elegance of this centuries old home have been retained. Beautiful frescoes adorn the walls of the living spaces, and the wood-fired brick pizza oven come to my mind first. You will enjoy discovering these treasures, and many more, as a privileged guest of this fine property. Ciao! ##### Julia M. Stayed 14 nights in Jun 2019 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Rose S. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. Beautiful, authentic, spacious, and comfortable, the Villa was the perfect place for connecting with family, getting alone time, swimming in the beautiful pool, enjoying a cooking class and pizza night. Lorenzo was very accessible and accommodating, setting up events and giving us bus schedules. It was truly something we will all remember. ##### Rose S. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Daniela S. Oct 26, 2017 #### The best family vacation ever My mother and my wife's mother both turned 70 this year, so we decided to do a joint family birthday trip with 19 kids and adults to Tuscany to celebrate, and we could not have been more delighted with the property, the location, and the owner. It was truly a trip we will remember with joy for the rest of our lives. The property is spectacular. It feels like you are staying in a movie set, with massive rooms, frescoed walls, antique furnishings, incredible oil paintings, ornate wooden desks, massive old wine barrels, and inlaid marble floors. Out nearly every window you have a view of the historic church next door with the Italian countryside surrounding it, and the backyard opens into the family's private olive groves (while the front yard offers terraced lawns with a pool and goldfish pond). One of the highlights of our trip was spending a night cooking homemade pizzas and drinking red wine in the 500-year-old (!!) wood-fired stone oven in the older section of the house. It was amazing in every way. The location was also perfect, as Ponte a Moriano is a 20-minute drive from the amazing walled city of Lucca and less than two hours from Cinque Terre, Siena, Florence, Pisa, Bagni de Lucca, San Gimignano,, and Portofino, all of which members of the family visited while we were there. (Two groups also did overnight trips to Venice and Rome!) The house is also a 10 minute walk from an amazing local restaurant, Erasmus, in Ponte a Moriano, as well as tasty local pizza places, cafes, shops and other conveniences in town. You can also hike or drive up the hill to see other spectacular villas and gardens in the area. Finally, the owner, Isabelle, and her boyfriend Massimo, were delightful. They live in a small house attached to the property, and they were always available for any and every need, from changing car reservations in Italian to helping book local restaurants, get converters, or master wood cooking in a centuries-old oven. In short, the only thing we would have changed was leaving, and we hope others have an equally amazing time in our Italian fantasy home. ##### Andrew W. We were a large family party of 24 with ages ranging from 4-73. Our initial apprehension about age and grandeur eased as everyone became familiar with the layout and feel of the house. In fact, the villa feels very much like a family home and we managed to organise rooms so family groups were either next to each other or children slept with parents (the rooms are huge). The swimming pool is lovely, well cared for with plenty of shade and a lush grass surround appreciated by children and dogs. The children loved ping pong, table football and chess or cards in the library. Grown-ups valued good wifi, local information and intel from Isabelle, the library and all the places around the property to chill out. The villa’s proximity to Florence, Lucca and Pisa for sightseeing is a bonus, and the younger party members even had an evening in the nightspots of Lucca. Bathrooms were all working well with hot water all the time. Even in August the villa was cool at night and the fabulously comfortable beds with fans in the bedrooms ensured everyone slept well. The large main kitchen was well equipped and had plenty of space for 8 or more of us to prepare meals together. The smaller upstairs kitchen was useful for early suppers for our younger family members. Housekeeping help in the mornings was a real bonus and recommended for a large group especially for bathrooms and kitchens. We absolutely loved the terrace for al fresco dinners. Although it is on the other end of the villa from the main kitchen (a challenge for anyone in charge of the ancient trolley with the squeaky wonky wheel) we ate there most evenings for the atmosphere and cool breeze. We employed a chef for one special evening dinner: it was a perfect evening of wonderful food and great service - highly recommended. There is an excellent supermarket about five minutes’ drive away and the local village walking distance for bread and local produce. Isabelle gave some of us a fascinating intro to other villas in the area and we visited a couple of her recommendations. Her local knowledge, obvious pride and love of the area and its villas is inspiring. Our family feedback that they had the best holiday: ‘delightful and relaxing’, ‘a marvelous place with so much character, history and comfort’, ‘a beautiful place to spend time together'. ##### Diana G. Our experience at Villa Trenta was truly one would expect when going to visit family in Italy. We were greeted by the villa owner, Isabelle, who instantly treated us like family. The welcome luncheon set the tone for what would be one of many memorable meals and experiences that we completely enjoyed during our week in Tuscany. The Villa Trenta description prior to our visit was exactly what we expected upon arrival. The villa is set in a charming town, Ponte A Moriano, centrally located for day trips in Tuscany (ie, Lucca, Siena, Florence, Forte dei Marmi beach and San Gimignano to name a few). Our family enjoyed the local experience by walking to town for fresh bread, pastry and "the best" gelato each day. We enjoyed the local wines, olive oil from the Villa Trenta grounds and fresh fruits daily that don't often get at home. Our 21 guests of varied ages (2-50's) each enjoyed themselves while utilizing the amenities available at Villa Trenta. We utilized the chef services and dined on the magnificent "al fresco" terrace as well as in the wine "cantina". It was amazing! This was the cousins' family vacation that allowed those of us with Italian roots to experience what living in Italy truly feels like. This villa is perfect for a large group with plenty of spacious rooms, high ceiling and amenities for all. The pool and the grounds were perfect for all ages, beds extremely comfortable and there was a beautiful breeze in the evenings that kept the house cool even in the middle of the hottest month of the year. Whether this is your first time or not, Villa Trenta will offer you and your guests the authentic Tuscan experience that most of us dream of having (atleast) once in a lifetime. We cannot thank Isabelle and her staff enough for their incredible hospitality! ##### Antoinette F.
