The upper portion of the canyon is the Hollywoodland community that was advertised in the 1920s by the original of what is now known as the Hollywood Sign. This was our first time dealing with a property management company and ITrip was very easy to work with and Lilly was quick to respond to any questions I had. The house we stayed in was amazing! Everything was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked and the huge bathroom was roomy enough for 2 people to get ready at the same time. We spent every morning and evening on the deck enjoying the incredible view of the city. There’s a tiny grocery store nearby and we would stop and grab something frozen to pop in the oven for dinner. With a view like that it made no sense to spend a ton of money to eat somewhere else when this home had the best dining atmosphere in town. As a house in the Hollywood hills it has gorgeous views of the city. The listing says it’s air conditioned but the controls are in the main house so you have no access. I messaged the host but this property is managed through ITrip, so it felt like I was playing telephone to get ac on and it wasn’t much colder once my request was sent. It is in a great location to see many of the sights near and around LA. It is well stocked with the essentials and the views are amazing. We did the secret stairs a few times and enjoyed that as well. Overall amazing stay at a great location. The only negative is there is no individual control for the AC and the owner controls it from their side of the house. It was very hot while we were there and the AC was barely on while we were inside. It did cool off at night, but if you like it cool, you probably don’t want to stay here if it is hot. ##### Eric R. First, the view of downtown is "as advertised" and beautiful!! The space matches the pictures online and everything seemed to work. Everything you may want to explore is within 20-30 minutes, and the drive up Gower gives you a picture perfect view of the Hollywood sign. The location is amazing, but I would not stay in "Secret Stairs 2" again for the following reasons. I believe there are 2 units for rent on the property and both are attached to a "main" house. From what I could determine, Apt 2 (the one I rented) has the view, and Apt 1 has privacy. Our unit shared an entire wall with the owners separated by a closet-like door. The owner(s) was respectful of the time regarding noise - quiet from about 9pm - 9am except for occasional dog noise. However, we could hear conversations through the wall as if the people were in the same room, and we could also smell pot in the unit during the day and at night. Also, check to see that coffee is in the tin when you arrive, because our tin was empty. To be fair, I did not report this to the management company because there was nothing to be done. More coffee would not have mattered because the time to use it had passed; reporting the noise was not fixable; and the pot smell - well it is legal in California, so...The rental description needs to specify that unit 2 is attached to the owners house, especially for the price charged. ##### Tracy H. The view over the city was amazing. That said we could walk into Hollywood in around 40 mins. The Beachwood cafe is a short walk down the hill which I would recommend if you didn’t fancy venturing into town as the food was great. The property itself is really nice although you are aware that the owner is upstairs and we found ourselves talking quietly and listening to the TV at low volume. It didn’t really bother us as we were out most of the time and we would stay again if we came to LA. ##### Sue R. The ambience of the place was so unique and fun. We loved it. Only complaint I had was the owner controlled the thermostat and it was too warm. keeping the sliding doors open and screens closed helped at night, but was too warm during the day. Our stay at this lovely one bedroom apartment high in the hills but only 10 minutes or less from our son was absolutely perfect. We love to hike and less than 200 yards from this place was a trail that led down to the Hollywood reservoir or up to Mulholland drive. The view was lovely, the night air cool and the surroundings tranquil. one couldn't ask for anything more. ##### Rick S. The apartment is spacious and clean, with Chinese/Asian furnishings and decorations - and of course the giant Buddha on the patio. It has a full kitchen with everything you could need, and a large bathroom. Check-in was easy. The road to the property is steep, narrow and winding. You'll need to park right up to the edge of the street to let cars pass, and let passengers out first. (It's so tight that when a neighbor had a party one night we had to fold our cars' wing mirrors in to get past their visitors!) We enjoyed the local neighborhood, especially "Franklin Village" (at the bottom of Birchwood Canyon - a lively area with restaurants, markets and even a comedy club) and we found the location to be a good base for visiting LA area sights and museums. Guests should be aware that the property is not managed directly by the hosts (we did not meet them) but a third party management company ("iTrip") who have their own rules and procedures independent of vrbo, such as requiring copies of drivers licenses in order to book. We had an problem with iTrip's automated emails which was quickly resolved, but it was a reminder that we were working through another layer. No doubt iTrip provides a valuable service to hosts, but we missed the personal touch that we've experienced staying in other vrbo properties. ##### Nick W. The location was ideal - far up in the Hills, just a short walk to a clear view at the base of the Hollywood sign. It was quiet and peaceful, especially at night, with the sounds of nature the perfect backdrop for the spectacular view of the LA skyline right off the patio. Mornings included a scenic walk down the secret stairs to breakfast at the Beachwood Cafe. Afternoons included another walk, this time just up the hill to the never-ending hiking trails in the Hollywood Hills & Griffith Park. Honestly, between the well-appointed kitchen, the proximity to the Beachwood Cafe and Beachwood Market (where they have everything you'd need, including fresh cut steaks), and walkable access to the endless hiking trails, you would really not need a car while staying here. And with that view - why would you ever leave? The property was comfortable, more than enough space for the 2 of us. We never felt on top of each other, and the patio off the bedroom was VERY spacious. It wasn't just a token little patio - it was truly a living space. There's an enormous TV in the family room, with all the channels you'd expect to have at home. The wi-fi worked great, which came in handy while trying to get a little work done. I was anxious about parking high up in the windy narrow streets, but it was truly not an issue at all. This property is perfect for a couple's escape in the Hollywood Hills. ##### Chris M.
