Country pleasures: Rustic and traditional, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was a country cottage, not a townhouse in the heart of the city. From the gingham headboard in the master bedroom to the rococo chairs surrounding the old oak table in the kitchen, Kynance Place exudes country calm. Gilt-framed portraits and baroque landscapes adorn the walls of the classical sitting room. There are two bedrooms, each with a double bed and a pared-back palette. Polished mahogany, striking oil paintings and stately porcelain pieces ornament the interior furnishings, cool-toned walls and canvas curtains. Indeed, in this idyllic retreat you may have to remind yourself of your urban location – perhaps at an exhibition in one of South Kensington’s renowned museums, or over coffee and cake at a Gloucester Road café. When you return home, the sitting room’s sofa and pretty pink armchairs will seem all the more inviting. Home Truths: \- The roof terrace of this home is only accessible via a ladder and isn't suitable for all guests. Images of this ladder can be seen in the master bedroom photos. This home doesn't have air conditioning. Between June and September, we'll place fans in each bedroom. Please let us know if you'd like fans outside the summer period. This home is spread over four floors with no internal elevator. The beds in both bedrooms can be split into two singles. Please let our reservation team know how you would like these set up when you book. There is no washing machine in this home. This home is in an older building and has unique quirks. The floors show some signs of wear. There is no hanging space in the guest bedroom, however, there is ample flat space in the chest of drawers. This home may accept pets on request. The spotless home is charming and exudes old world sophistication. The rooftop terrace affords loverly views of the neighborhood, although a minor roof leak required attention during our stay. The property management team was swift in their response and could not have been more professional and kind to us. The location is superb - a lovely short walk to the Gloucester Road Underground Station with appealing cafes and restaurants just around the corner. At times, the clip-clop of the mounted police patrol could be detected upstairs which was a welcome addition to the "Somewhere in Time" vibe. The home is just a few minute stroll from Hyde Park, the Museum of Natural History and the Royal Albert Hall to name just a few attractions. Curious minds needn't look far for a clue to reveal the identities of those portrayed in the oil paintings in the gem of a Sitting Room. we hope to return again one day! ##### Jennifer l.
