Quinta da Várzea - Colares, Sintra

Located on the ground floor of the Barreiros family villa, Quinta da Várzea encompasses modern comfort with old Portuguese tradition. Upon arriving, you will be greeted by an incredibly friendly and welcoming family, who strive to ensure that you have the most pleasant stay possible. Madalena and Francisco have great local knowledge and are only a staircase away if you ever need anything!

The three bedroomed villa is capable of accommodating up to six guests, with three children. You can enjoy your meals in the garden whilst appreciating the magnificent view that the Sintra mountain range has to offer. Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen allowing them to prepare their own meals and enjoy them in any of the three dining areas that are available. In addition, a great variety of restaurants are available only a short walk away.

Within Colares itself, there are two grocery shops, a local market, two restaurants, a newsagent and a coffee shop all within walking distance of the villa.

Guests can easily visit Sintra and its various attractions; Palácio da Pena and Mouros Castle being some of the most popular. Cascais is 20 km away and Guicho Beach is a 24-minute drive. Lisbon International Airport is 34 km away.

Quinta da Várzea is one of the best-rated locations in Sintra and also one of the best in terms of value. Guests are leaving great reviews and getting more for their money when compared to other properties in this city.

Private parking is available and shared with the host family. Friendly dogs live at the property.

It's is a Romanticist castle that stands on the top of a hill in the Sintra Mountains. And undoubtedly one of the most iconic places in Portugal. And a dream come true to visit it! It is a national monument and constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century Romanticism in the world. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. It is also used for state occasions by the President of the Portuguese Republic and other government officials. Thanks to Wikipedia for help ;).

I loved everything about this property. Three generous bedrooms, and excellent kitchen and living room; with a beautiful place to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. A couple of wonderful grocery stores within 5 minutes walk and a terrific cafe less than a minute away for coffee in the morning, wine in the afternoon and great pastry. 5 minutes drive from the Ocean, 10 minutes to Sintra and 30 minutes to Lisbon - I couldn't have asked for a better place. I will be going back.

A wonderful stay at Quinta de Varzea

We had a great stay at Quinta de Varzea. Madalena and her family made us feel welcome. They were always there to help and answer questions, gave us great restaurant and site seeing recommendations, shared with us the fruits from their garden, and lended us their own household items if we needed anything. The property is very conveniently located: it is in the center of Colares, within 2-10 min walking distance from several restaurants and 2 grocery shops, yet is surrounded by greenery and very serene. The Pena palace of Sintra can be seen from the garden. The closest beach is only about 5 min away by car, several other beaches at s close distance, palaces and gardens of Sintra are only about 30 min away by car. The apartment is situated on the 1st floor of the house and is very spacious, has 3 separate bedrooms with 3 full bathrooms, a kitchen, a washer/dryer, and a very large living room. The apartment is beautiful and has a lot of charm. The property is surrounded by a walled garden, which provided ample space for our kids to roam and for us to relax. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would warmly recommend Quinta de Varzea to my friends and family.

Great Stay

We had a lovely time staying here in early February with our two young children. Its a very comfortable and spacious apartment, with a lovely, cosy feel about it and charmingly decorated. Our hosts were very nice and friendly, though we didn't see much of them. The house is ideally placed for both Sintra and the coast, as well as Lisbon not far away. Its in a semi-rural position, with a couple of little superettes down the road, and a cafe 50 yards away. Our two year old son enjoyed watching the ducks and heron on the river, from out of the window. We very much enjoyed Sintra's beautiful gardens and palaces, and when we wanted a change of scenery we went to the coast, only 5 or 10 minutes away. You could be in a glade of tree ferns in a sumptuous garden one moment, and then watching crashing Atlantic surf twenty minutes later. Wonderful. Thank you Madelena.
