Lazy Oaks Resort is a special place — rustic, beautiful, and full of character — but it’s not for everyone. Yes, it’s beautiful here. Yes, it’s peaceful. But let’s be honest — when you stay this close to the lake and woods, you're signing up for a front-row seat to the wild side of the White Mountains. That includes bugs (despite our constant spraying), bats (they eat the bugs, so technically they’re staff), mice (adorable freeloaders), geese (loud and entitled), badgers (surprisingly bold), and yes... occasionally, bears (they were here first). Now, don’t panic — actual wildlife encounters are rare. Most critters keep to themselves, especially if you don’t leave snacks out like it’s a buffet for the forest. But still — if the idea of a spider ruins your weekend, this might not be your dream getaway. Pet owners, listen up: we love animals — yours, ours, and the wild ones that roam the area. But please keep your furry friends leashed and in your sight at all times. This is real nature, not a fenced-in dog park. Wildlife doesn't care how sweet your pup is, and we'd like to avoid any awkward encounters that end in vet visits or dramatic stories. About the internet... The internet was really really poor. The posting said it could be spotty but it was really unreliable. Apart from that, loved the location and the house. We waited for an hour to finally get the code. VRBO was not much help, because neither I or VRBO could reach the host I was expected to get a hotel for the first night and look for another VRBO for night 2 and they would reimburse me, thankfully the host contacted me and we finally got the door code. Because we had to wait an hour and it was dark when we got to Pinetop the rental was hard to find. The rental was clean or so we thought, so glad none of us wanted to take a bath, as fecal material from the toilet in that bathroom was coming out of the bathtub drain! They did drop off a microwave in its box the next day. Upstairs bathroom door doesn’t lock. The AC does not reach upstairs even with a fan on the stairs, and there is no screen on the window or upstairs balcony door. So if it is warm outside (which it was) the only option was to open a door or window without screens which just invite bugs. Also they do not provide towels to use at the lake. Two of the kayaks that were advertised for use were broken and the other 2 are in fair condition. Also we ran out of toilet paper with no way to get more so we had to go out and get some. They do allow dogs which is nice. They did say we could purchase fire wood but the office was closed the whole time we were there. The office is closed on Sunday. ##### David H. I messaged property ahead of time they stated a crib would be waiting for me. I was given after (reminding them) a dirty very dirty broken pack n play like the bottom bars were broke off. That was all they had. I could have brought my own no problem at all. I had to rearrange furniture against the wall and barricade my baby in. I was up the first night keeping him in place. This place us a beautiful get away other than the crib issue. I will bring my family back definitely. We dudnt need to keave and when we did for hikes and horse riding it was only miles away.
