Lindau, Old Town harbour, Bavaria, Germany 

Lindau is a historical town in Bavaria land of Germany on the eastern side of Lake Constance (Bodensee in German) near the borders of Austria and Switzerland. The coat of arms of Lindau town is a linden tree, referring to the supposed origin of the town's name (Linde means linden tree in German).

Lindau was established in 1275 century as one of the Imperial Free Cities. Historically, the trading route from Nuremberg to Italy passed through Lindau; fishery has also played a big role in the economy of the city and in the 19th century, Lindau was an important location for textile industries. Tourism (including restaurants and accommodation) and industrial production are the main industries in contemporary Lindau.

The historical Old town was built on a small island with a harbour and you can enjoy this picturesque view from the lighthouse opposite the statue of Bavarian lion. There wasn't anyone at the hotel to answer questions and I had to call a number to get buzzed into the building. "This was a great hotel for the price and location. It was roomy, extremely clean and the kitchenette was all we needed. It had a microwave, kettle and toaster. A selection of glasses, crockery and cutlery. It had a laundry which was a little tricky to navigate. Once you knew you had to get tokens from the vending machine it was manageable. If you don’t mind not having access to human staff, this is the place for you. It is self check on which was easy enough. We declined to pay for breakfast as it was 20Euro per person with no information about the menu. Plenty of lovely cafes on the way to places of interest. Self checkout was just a matter of dropping key cards in a box. "

"Friendliness seems to be a foreign concept at check in. We arrived 45 minutes early and were greated with 'Your reservation starts at 3pm. You can check in at 3pm'. Unfortunately, the room itself didn't offer much comfort either: no climate control, no heating either, and soundproofing was minimal enough that we could clearly hear conversations from neighboring guests. No coffee maker. Everything smelled weird and felt damp. On the giid side, the rooms are large and the backyard is beautiful. "
