He stopped on. The way home at the supermarket, organised for my friend to see local acupuncture Dr, and if that wasn’t enough his beautiful wife helped to prepare the dinner a traditional Japanese meal! The next day Hideo took us on a tour and accommodated all our varied interests, it was wonderful This morning he delayed a trip for himself to take us to the bus, the whole stay was magnificent! ##### Ja N. Séjour de 2 nuits en octobre 2025 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### VIZE C. 11 juill. 2025 Points forts : Propreté #### The Gem of Japan Our stay with Hideo and his family made our entire trip to Japan. Saying this is a vacation home does not do it justice. It’s more like staying with family. Family who take you around to see the sights, family who take you in and enjoys a meal with you, who treats your children like their own, shows you all the best things Japan has to offer. Is the place new, no, but it’s 200 years old. Is it amazing, yes! The area is so beautiful. Hideo and his wife and his wonderful dogs are incredible. The most gracious hosts. Hideo took us all over Kyoto to see the sites, took us to a fish market to buy and cook fresh fish for lunch, taught us how to make sushi, taught our kids how to make sukiyaki rights at the table. Hideo gifted us the most beautiful kimonos, took our son on the most incredible adventure, he will never forget and still talks about fondly today. I could go on and on about how amazing our stay was but I would run out of space before I ran out of wonderful things to say. Thank you so much for an incredible vacation and for making Japan everything we knew it was ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/df9ed919-4856-40ee-8d90-aad7bde62fcd-1752264804573.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/df72a8f8-13b8-43e7-bd4e-c76009309faf-1752264800654.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/b160c83d-ff84-43eb-ad58-b6be646ab860-1752264802218.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/c1d3ebb3-493e-409c-9957-c6c796bf8837-1752264803346.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ##### VIZE C. Very comfortable sleep on the traditional beds. ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/d45e6240-68fa-4619-af1c-9a8b15da1cea-1748941508466.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/c1be3467-d8c0-4df7-8bba-a5b59d4aeca4-1748941508804.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ##### Chloe S. The building wears its history like a fine jacket while also being warm and comfortable. The setting is peaceful and bucolic. We pitied the folks fighting huge crowds to get cherry blossom pics, while we wandered the sakura groves that line the roads and canals by our lodgings. But the absolute best part of the entire stay was our hosts. They were friendly, and 'above and beyond' doesn't begin to describe their helpfulness. From tours to cooking lessons to warm evenings spent chatting and playing with their dogs, we felt welcome and valued every moment of our time there. We're already planning our return trip. ##### Moggy P. Thank you to Hideo and Yukako for being such warm and welcoming hosts. Hideo picked us up from the bus stop and took us shopping, allowing us to pick up anything we needed for the nights dinner and morning breakfast, then on to the house to get settled in.The house is lovely and clean with everything you could need and more. I particularly loved the Japanese style dining table with built-in blanket and heater; so cosy for the cold weather! We chose to do a day tour with Hideo around the local area the next dayTheir little dog Mei Mei came with us and was the star of the show at the grass thatched roof village. If you like textiles, the indigo museum is a must! The fish market was interesting and fun. We were surprised to see many low flying eagles while we ate our lunch! Later Yukako made us delicious soup and sashimi hand rolls which we all ate together. The birthday cake at the end was a lovely surprise for my husband! If you want a stay with a personal touch I would highly recommend staying with Hideo and Yukako. We had a fantastic time! ##### Ginger H. Hideo and his wife were the absolute best hosts! The accommodation was so clean and very traditional which is what we were looking for. Hideo took us on an amazing fish tour where we picked fish at a fish market and cooked it ourselves and made chop sticks, toured thatched roof homes, sake brewery, bamboo forest and monkeys! We also had the best ramen and his wife made us sashimi with the fish we bought at the market. It was an amazing experience and the place was even better than we thought! We even got to see June Firefly’s at night! Hideo is a true ambassador for Japan and very considerate of the locals and in educating us foreigners! We highly recommend their VRBO to travelers of all ages! ##### Kathleen S. We wanted to experience a more traditional countryside experience during our trip and they were incredibly accommodating. Yukako was so kind to pick us up from the bus stop and had such a bright and welcoming personality. She offered to take us to a local bakery, which was great. She showed us around their beautiful home, which was well kept and had all the amenities we needed. It even included a beautiful piano, which our family loved, and an amazing massage chair, which was very helpful with all the walking we had been doing during our trip. Hideo worked with us to put together custom day tours and was very flexible with working with our interests. He also provided all the transportation, which was very convenient. He took us to numerous different local spots, from the fish market to a chopstick museum to a local waterfall, to name a few. He was a great tour guide! For two of our dinners, Yukako taught us how to make hand rolls with the seafood we got from the fish market and other traditional Japanese dishes. She is a wonderful cook and I highly recommend doing dinner with them. We shared so many laughs over dinner. They also have 3 wonderful dogs that made the stay even more enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed all the memories we made on this trip, thanks to having such wonderful hosts. We highly recommend staying here! Thank you Yukako and Hideo for all the laughs and fun memories. ##### Erika O. It is difficult to find a place to stay with an infant under one year. But this was perfect for our family. Even though we arrived late at the bus stop, Hideo was there to pick us up. Make sure to bring snacks and dinner after riding the Shinkansen and bus into town. Maybe something for the morning but if not, there is a cool cafe for the mornings if needed. The property is charming and reminiscent of a time long ago while still having all modern amenities. If you forgot any necessity, the had it (toothbrush, brush, hair products, body products etc.) Kyoto area was green, lush, and earthy. It feels like what westerners think of traditional Japan. Beds were soft yet firm and comfortable to sleep two adults and a baby in the middle. Lots of blankets if needed. The house was decorated very cool! There is traditional seating or western dining setting, the fridge / kitchen tools was perfect for our stay. In the mornings we went on family walks around the town before adventuring on our custom tours Hideo created for us. Our favorite was going to the fish market and purchasing fish to be cooked at the house that evening. Oh my goodness it was the best meal of the trip!!!! He was able to show us the highlights of the area without feeling like we were tourists. In fact, most of the places we went, we didn’t see any American tourists! Hideo and his wife treated us as family. We will be back and bringing friends! 💗💗 ##### Savannah C. Hideo was there to pick us up at the bus when we arrived and anytime we ventured back to Kyoto. He also was our tour guide for a day making our travels very informative and fun. Food prepared by ukoco? Was delicious and both Hideo and ukoco’s company was so wonderful. If you want to be out of the city this is the place to be. Maybe a bit far if you want to explore Kyoto as bus does take over an hour. We all (4) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. ##### Christine M. Thank you so much, Hideo-San and Yukako-San, for your kind and generous hospitality during our stay at your wonderful home! Hideo-San met us at the bus stop and from there the adventures began. We got lunch from a farmers market, and then visited a local shrine and refreshing onsen after dropping off our bags and having a bite. Dinner was fried delights at a spot down the road. After a good night's rest at Tokuhei-an's spacious rooms, Hideo-San drove us to the Obama fish market to pick up fresh mackerel, red snapper, shrimp and squid to grill for lunch. After more sightseeing around Obama Bay, a stop by a Chopstick Museum and Gift Shop, and a visit to the Miyama thatched roof village, we returned to the house to rest up for the evening's feast. Yukako-San, who has experience cooking at a Michelin-starred restaurant, sliced up and prepared fresh Obama tuna, squid, shrimp and sea urchin for sushi hand rolls. Delightful eggplant, potato salad and miso soup accompanied the seafood, along with home-grown shiso leaves and ice cold beer and sake. A legendary night! Our trip was all the while enhanced by Hideo-san's engaging stories, witty jokes, infectious laughter, Nihon-go tips and reflections on life. The house was super comfortable and well-equipped, including kitchen equipment and air-conditioning system. It was perfect for our group of six, including two kids. Thank you again Hideo-San and Yukako-San for hosting us and for providing lifelong memories - Okagesama de! ##### Voyageur vérifié Séjour de 2 nuits en juillet 2023 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Peter B., Chicago, USA 25 sept. 2019 Points forts : Propreté #### Great place to get away from city Very easy to communicate with Hideo.
