We loved our stay at Saju Kyoto. We arrived early and they looked after our bags until it was time to check in. When we checked in we were served matcha tea and Japanese cakes in our room. The room was very tiny but so comfortable, cosy and traditional. The futons were the most comfortable beds we had during all our time in Japan!
The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The hotel offers free sake and tea tasting which were both a lot of fun, we looked forward to coming back to the hotel every evening to do another tasting!
The location is great, on a quiet street, very close to the subway and within walking distance of a lot of tourist attractions and places to eat.
We would love to stay here again one day :)
We loved staying at Saju Kyoto. It is in a nice neighborhood with many dining options, stores and other amenities nearby. Getting to a metro was just a short walk away. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful staff working there. They were all friendly, always happy to chat with you and see how your day went. They were quick to answer questions and worked hard to research information they didn't have any immediate answer for. We would definitely stay there again.
Truly unforgettable Kyoto stay – authentic, elegant, and heartwarming
Our stay at this beautiful boutique hotel in Kyoto was a highlight of our trip. The room, featuring traditional tatami mats and a futon, was impeccably clean and just as stunning as the photos suggested — with a soft, woodsy aroma that made it feel immediately calming and serene.
What truly set this stay apart was the hospitality. Our host was the most accommodating and thoughtful person we met in Japan. She offered us a range of complimentary cultural experiences including a tea ceremony, sake tasting, fan painting, and wine tasting — each one delivered with care and genuine warmth. On our final morning, we were treated to a delicious matcha tea and a light dashi broth breakfast served in a charming breakfast cup — a perfect parting gesture.
The hotel is nestled just moments from Nishiki Market, right in the heart of Kyoto’s enchanting backstreets. Surrounded by boutique shops, high-end retail, izakayas, and cosy restaurants, it felt like we were living as locals — immersed in Kyoto’s everyday elegance.
If you’re looking for an experience that combines comfort, culture, and exceptional hospitality, this is the place to stay. We left with full hearts, lovely memories, and a deep appreciation for Kyoto’s quiet beauty.
Very convenient location. Clean ryokan that offers unique experience. We got to try complimentary sake tasting, fan painting, matcha making, and tea tasting! Very friendly staff as well.
