We booked a room with a private bathroom, which was very convenient. The area is quiet, with a restaurant just around the corner and a shared dining room available for use. One thing to note is that check-in and the front desk are in a separate building about a 3-minute walk away, so if you're arriving with large suitcases, be prepared to go back and forth. Additionally, the rooms are on the second floor with steep stairs, which might be challenging if you have heavy luggage. Other than that, the Japanese-style room was very nice and clean. The hotel staff was helpful and welcoming, and both check-in and check-out were smooth and easy. Traditional Japanese vibes, comfy futon, I even had a sliding door to get a view of the outside. Some reviews complained about a strong smell, and while I could smell the tatami mats, it wasn't a bad smell by any means. The house was very quiet too, which was nice to sleep in. My only real complaint is about a couple of locals who stayed in the house on my last two nights. They would talk very loudly and would stomp around and slam doors/other things late at night. That's an issue with those people though, and not with the room or the house. For those looking to stay, just keep in mind that you're basically staying in a dorm. It is located on a quiet residential area about 15 min walk from Kyoto central station. The reception was at a different place (next street) - you need to goto this place for checkin formalities. This was mentioned in the instructions email, nevertheless it was not convenient. Bathroom taps were old and not that handy.
