Make sure when booking you understand where the actual apartment is located. The hotels.com location/address is for the office and NOT the apartment, some apartments are across the street, some are 5km away (so not in close proximity to main tourist areas). The apartment I stayed in was across the road from the office (15a - flat 11, 2nd floor, no lift). You get what you pay for, it is affordable but it is a basic no thrills apartment. The location for this apartment is great and very convenient as centrally located. The property is not at all like the picture posted in the ad, but the staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed at the apartment in October and the central heating was not yet on, which means the apartment was cold and the little heater provided by the property management did not help much with that. The hot water is a problem. It runs very hot, then suddenly turns cold (depending who else is using the hot water in the building), impossible to adjust and stay adjusted to the right temperature. The cleanliness leaves much to be desire: filthy floors, towels with some suspicious stains on them. This may well be the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. The rooms were absolutely filthy; the kitchen seemed genuinely unhygienic, the bathroom was caked in grime and mold, and we found a used condom coated in fecal matter near the shower. There was no toilet paper in the room; we had to go buy it ourselves. The lightbulbs in the kitchen were mostly burned out and the one remaining light in the room was extremely dull; making the kitchen almost unusable. The beds in our two-bedroom apartment were some of the least comfortable beds either of us had ever encountered. Neither of us were able to sleep properly the entire time of our stay. We didn't have a proper check-in or check-out; the staff just gave us a key when we arrived and instructed us to leave the key under the doormat when we left. The hotel staff that we did encounter did not speak English or Ukrainian, making it almost impossible to communicate with them. I understand this is not meant to be a glamourous or luxurious hotel, however the rest of our trip in Ukraine we spent similar amounts of money on lodging, with considerably better results. And they at least were hygienic. Apartment so so! So, will start by saying location is very good. Very central and can get to many central spots, shopping, food, etc.... Staff that run the different apartments are nice too. I recommend connecting via Whatsapp in advance to meet up with them. We showed up after 7 PM when they were already closed, but they were happy to meet up. So very helpful. Make sure you do this, because there is not a typical check in point. Apartment was clean and well kept. Very aged though, and is not shown in the pictures given here. So beware, pictures are not accurate, at least based on what we were given. It says they have 10 apartments. The one we were given was not pictured, and would not have stayed here to be honest, based on what we were given. We stayed one night, so was not going to stir things up, but the Apartment we were given was about 2 star at best. Internet works well and is in an old apartment building. One other odd factor, neighbors had a sign posted, don't be noisy, we have a baby next door, be loud and we will call the Police. Bathroom just okay, again 2 star level. Very old hotel no elevators have to carry 20 kg to third floor. Dirty stairs noisy neighborhood. Inside apartment was just ok for solo travel looking for a place to sleep. Dirty old linen. Great experience. Perfect for you if you want spacious accommodations and can get around the city by yourself. If you need concierge, or need recommendations for where to eat or the don't speak Russian or Ukrainian, you may want a hotel. It is only two blocks from independence square, bus lines, and the subway. There are many restaurants close that have the food listed in English. The room has a small kitchen if you want to cook your own meals. There is a small market about 50 feet away and a larger market in the square two blocks away. If you are going to Kiev to find a Ukrainian wife, like I was, there is a marriage agency next door who will introduce you to local women that speak excellent English. The staff were very helpful in answering questions, calling for a taxi, and giving directions. They speak very good English. I had only two complains. The site said that you can make free local calls but there is no telephone in the room. The telephone is in the managers office, so if it is outside of normal hours you can not make a call. The second complaint is about the furniture. My couch had a broken armrest and the covering was peeling. They covered the couch with a blanket but the pieces of the covering still fell on the floor. It would have been nice to have a small table to work on. I used the wobbly coffee table as a work area. It is an old building so be prepared to climb stairs that are well used. The room was large and clean. The bedroom has many shelves and a nightstand so there is plenty of room for your clothing and other items. When they couldn't they rented our 2 bedroom flat out but we were still able to get 2 single rooms. Also on my last night, I tripped and broke the corner of a glass coffee table. I left 1400.00 of Ukrainian currency with an apology note. The sleeping couch is old and the artificial leather cover was chipping off everywhere and sticking to our clothes. Bedding is also was old and blankets could be washed.
