This spacious, enchanting, ocean bluff Old Hawaiian Plantation Home is perched on one-half acre above the beach at Kalihiwai Bay and the dazzling Pacific Ocean. The panoramic ocean, beach and mountain views are indisputably some of the most beautiful views on Kauai.

The bluff, hot tub and covered lanai all offer breathtaking views. Waterfalls can be seen in the distant Mount Namahana Range, especially after rainfall. Sunsets, rainbows and, depending on the season, dolphin and whale sightings can be seen while overlooking the picture perfect Kalihiwai Bay and River down below. The Bay is only about a three-minute drive down the road and the beautiful beach is great for body boarding and surfing. At the Kalihiwai River, adjacent to the beach, you can take advantage of kayaking and paddle boarding.

Completely remodeled, this air-conditioned vacation home is just perfect in all respects. It is very roomy and comfortable and filled with elegant original artwork, while the natural beauty provides spectacular views from almost every room.

Our charming Hawaiian Plantation-style home features four bedrooms and three baths on a quiet cul-de-sac on Kauai's wondrous North Shore. Close to award-winning golf courses, shops, restaurants, beaches, and adventures, the home provides splendid accommodations for families and groups.

Our house is one of the few vacation rentals that has air-conditioning which is really nice in the warmer months.

The kitchen features granite counter tops and oak cabinetry. All new stainless steel appliances including a french-door refrigerator; gas range; dishwasher; and microwave. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the amenities you will need to feel at home and entertain your family and friends in style.

Two separate living areas plus a dining room make the inside spaces roomy and enjoyable for everyone.

Four lovely bedrooms include custom artwork, luxurious linens, new mattresses and pillows as well as ample closet space.

Master bedroom: Ocean views and king-sized bed.

Guest room 1: King-sized bed.

Guest room 2: Two full-sized beds.

Guest room 3: King-sized bed.

Two full baths are decorated in a pleasing island style. One with a stall shower and the other with a shower over tub. Both have new plush towels and lavish bath products.

A third bathroom is accessed from the back lanai and includes a half bath inside (toilet and sink) and an outdoor shower. Luxury bath product and linens provided.

Lush tropical landscaping adds to the wonder and privacy of this remarkable property. The yard includes a beautiful hardwood lanai encompassing an 8 person hot-tub, gas grill, and dining table for 6.

Beautiful handcrafted covered pavilion with new lounge furniture and fire pit is a perfect place to enjoy a view of the bay as well as migrating whales in wintertime.

Kalihiwai Bay is a short half mile drive where tourists and locals alike prize this beach for its beauty, serenity and famed surf break.

The Kilauea/Kalihiwai area is one of the premier, whale-watching locations on Kauai and seeing their spouts is an almost daily occurrence during winter months. Dolphins and turtles are also regular visitors to this coastline and even the rare Hawaiian Monk Seal has been spotted playing in the water below.

At the Kaohe Sunset View House you will be immersed in a feeling of 'old Hawaii' and surrounded by natural wonder where you can make your own special memories with friends and family.

Beautiful property. Amazing views. Beautiful sunsets of course! The flowers alone! We didn’t get a chance to enjoy the couches on the lanai unfortunately due to lots of ants. We mainly stood anyway when outside. Nicely stocked kitchen. Beds were all comfortable-they were those memory foam kinds. Plenty of towels/beach towels and toiletries as well. Well stocked laundry room. Appreciated the detailed info prior to check in. We loved our stay and would definitely come back!

Vacation 2025

This was our second time staying at the property, and it was just as we expected. Beautiful views, quiet with only the sounds of the waves in the bay, fully furnished and stocked with everything we needed, and plenty of space for everyone. The house is a great place to relax and an easy drive to almost anywhere on the island. Rental and check in were easy, and great communication with the property manager. We would definitely stay there again!

Beautiful spot

The home has beautiful spaces inside and out to take in the stunning view. There was lots of room for our group of five and we really enjoyed our stay. I also appreciated the list of recommendations provided by the hosts. (The Anaina Hou Community Park is just down the road and home to the Ahi Lele Fire Show, which was amazing. And we did find the local Kalihiwai Beach to be our favourite.) One suggestion is that it would be helpful to have information for reference about the home and how it operates. We had to text the property manager for the wifi password and it took us several days before we found the boogie boards.

Perfect family vacation

I stayed at Kaohe Sunset View in December 2024. The house is a terrific destination for a family vacation. The house is well stocked with everything. Plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, wagons, etc. The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking or grilling. There are lots of beach and shower towels. There is a BBQ and a smoker. There is a bug zapper for outdoors. Its clear that the owners pay attention to the needs of their guests. The backyard hot tub is amazing. The view is spectacular. The firepit was wonderful. The local manager, Mandy, is terrific. Very responsive and attended to our minor requests. She made the process and the stay even more enjoyable. Only a 2 minute drive to the beach, close to Hanalei. A quiet street. This is a fantastic location and house. The outdoor space and view can not be beat. We will definitely return!

Kaua’i Paradise

We had a wonderful time at the Sunset view house. The view was the best of any house we’ve stayed in while on island. The house was fine, there was plenty of room for for adults and the two children. One nice thing about the house is the closeness of a beach. If you go to the left, there is a beach that is fairly unoccupied and nice. The only area that they could improve in is the sheets mattresses and definitely pillows. These items all seemed extremely well loved and used. Also, you need more bowls in the house . Other than that, it was absolute paradise. Thank you for sharing your property with us.

A MAGICAL STAY ON KAUAI

SPENDING A WEEK JUST DIDNT SEEM LONG ENOUGH. THIS RENTAL CERTAINLY HAS IT ALL. LOVE THE LAYOUT OF THE HOME...PERFECT FOR TWO COUPLES. REALLY SPENT MOST OF OUR DAYS OUTSIDE ON THE GAZEBO..BBQ*NG AND EATING OUTDOORS.(WE RECOMMEND GETTING YOUR FRESH FISH AT THE DOLPHIN FISH MARKET IN HANALEI.)..JACUZZI AND OUTDOOR SHOWER AMONG THE HIGHLIGHTS. Everything we needed

Property was great. Had a lot of space for our family to spread out and escape when needed. Separately, all the things you forget when traveling this place had, access to boogie boards, sand toys, detergent for laundry, rain ponchos in case you experience a light shower. I could go on, but I’ll spare you. Our family was a group of 7 that hsd a variety of needs being we ranged in ages from 6 to 62. It met everyone’s need/expectations. North Kauai is more remote, more natural and less commercialized. Our preferred way to experience where we travel.

Can't Wait to Return to this Exact Location

This property was even better than its listing pictures and description. The views are unparallel, breathtaking, and the location is peaceful and very private. Beds were comfy, property immaculate and loaded with every possible dish, appliance and beach gear. Markets for food and restaurants are within 5 to 15 minutes. We enjoy the North Shore the most, and this location was perfect...within minutes of Princeville. Kapaa is a 15 minue drive and the airport is 40 minutes. We've stayed on the island many times and we will try to get this property on our return trips. Checkin out and communications with the host were incredibly easy and friendly. Can't wait to return. Maholo to our hosts!

Classic old Hawaii with unbeatable view.

The outdoor grounds with hot tub perched on the hill, lanai with fire pit and chairs, and dining table with barbecue – each with unforgettable views of the pali and coastline below. Nice indoor spaces and kitchen with large table for family gatherings. All the rooms are comfortable. An array of beach chairs, dive gear, and beach toys for children. A spectacular pleasant Hawaiian home hidden behind a humble front. Thank you for letting us visit.

Outstanding experience

We had a wonderful stay at Sunset View Hale. Teri was thorough and prompt in providing information on house rules, check-in, and check-out times. She also went out of her way to suggest activities that she thought we’d enjoy. Mandy was extremely helpful, even helping us out with a grill concern on New Year’s Day. Overall, an excellent experience, and highly recommended.

Family vacation

The home was absolutely perfect for our family which includes our 3 adult children, son in law, daughter in law (engaged on the trip!) and granddaughter. We have been visiting the north shore of Kauai for over 40 years, renting numerous homes over the years and this home is now our favorite. The pictures on the website are beautiful, but honestly don’t do it justice. In person, the views are just magnificent. The backyard is amazing. The house had every little detail you can imagine. The on island assistant Mandy is the best. I had several questions for her during the week and she was very responsive and super helpful. A pleasure to work with. Thank you for sharing your home with us, we hope to return again next year!

Honeymoon House

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. The view was amazing, the house was clean and comfortable. If you’re like us, you probably picked this place for the view and it doesn’t disappoint. We also loved the part of the island where the house was located. The house was tucked away in a quiet neighborhood but you do still have neighbors (including a goat!). The small beach you can see from the property is very close and easy to get to. Very calm and quiet beach. The beds were comfy, the towels were fluffy, the coffee grinder worked. Would recommend and would stay here again.

Paradise

There is every reason to love this property! We’ve stayed in quite a few beautiful VRBO homes, and this ranks among the best. The scenery alone is worth the price of admission! The home, while not fancy (which we prefer for a casual, relaxed vacation), is very comfortable, wonderfully equipped and conveniently located to beaches for swimming and snorkeling. We had 3 generations of family here, and it worked out perfectly. The hosts have thought of everything. And, oh, that view!

Fun Family Vacation

My wife and I, along with our two adult sons, truly enjoyed our stay at the Sunset View home. This was a trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. It was very roomy, and there was always a spot to get away by yourself for a while to read or just unwind. The views from this home are nothing short of spectacular. The back yard is large enough for young kids to run around on. Mandy is the manager, and she made sure any issues that came up were taken care of quickly and professionally. We thought that a pair of binoculars would be nice to use to over look the beach, cove and ocean. She provided a brand new pair, and I suspect they will be available for all future guests to enjoy. One son went on a successful pig hunt and brought part of the meat back to the house. He used the BBQ and Smoker to cook up a very nice dinner. We used the high quality hot tub several times while the sun set, very relaxing after a day of activities. Plenty of beach and shower towels. On our last morning there, we ate breakfast on the lanai, enjoying the view. All the sudden we noticed a large pod of dolphins, and spinner dolphins, putting on a show in the bay below us. We grabbed the binoculars and watched for about 45 minutes. It was like they came in to say good bye. I wish we could have stayed longer, but there is always a next time.

A magical place with unmatched views!

We have stayed at some special places over the years, but The Sunset House is exceptional. As soon as we arrived, we were surrounded by natural beauty that was beyond belief. Even after a week’s visit, the stupendous views remained spellbinding. The house itself is thoughtfully designed, filled with light, and spacious with different spaces to spread out and also hang out together. Everything about the stay felt very comfortable – the beds, sofas, and showers are all top-notch. The house is equipped with many thoughtful amenities such as all the beach and snorkeling gear. The kitchen is well-stocked and has everything you need for cooking. The outdoor spaces were comfortably furnished where you can soak up the incredible views from different vantage points. The gazebo was our favorite spot where we felt we had the front-row seats to Mother Nature’s show. Each sunset was magical with unimaginable colors accompanied by mesmerizing sounds of the ocean. Mandy, the property manager, was always available, quick to respond, and very helpful. We were very grateful to experience the Sunset House. Thank you for an unforgettable trip, we hope to be back soon!

Best family vacation ever

Relaxed beachy vibe. Perfect for 6 adults and 2 small kids. Gorgeous views. Beds were comfortable and kitchen well stocked. Lots of yard for kids to run and play. Loved the river to the beach. We spent lots of time in the gazebo, and had a few fires in the fire pit as s’mores were requested. Mandy, the on island contact was always available to answer questions. Couldn’t not have had a better experience. Mahalo.
