This upgrade will provide a more comfortable and cool environment for our guests! This fifth floor oceanfront condo at the Kihei Surfside Resort is located on the more private, quieter side of the building, and has a lovely direct ocean view from the kitchen, living room, dining area and lanai. It is one of the larger, 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath units (680 sq ft). There is also a view of the Kihei shoreline, with Kamaole I, II and III beaches in plain sight. The unit has been tastefully remodeled to a very high standard. The kitchen is done in rich cherry wood cabinetry and gorgeous granite countertops. The entire unit has laminate flooring. Lighting in some rooms is controlled by dimmer switches. The very attractive peninsula style kitchen is fully equipped with clean white and stainless steel appliances, including a refrigerator, full size range, dishwasher, multi-function microwave oven, garbage disposer and a variety of small appliances including coffee maker, coffee grinder, four slice toaster, blender, crock pot, rice maker and hand mixer. There is also a large selection of higher end pots and pans, baking pans, knife set, spice rack and ample dishes, glasses and cutlery. The living room is highlighted by a mirrored wall which brings in the ocean in a beautiful way. It has a queen size sofa-bed and a flat screen 48" LED color TV and DVD player, and a multi speed ceiling fan. There is free wireless high speed internet and telephone with free long distance calling to the United States and Canada. The oceanfront dining area is also mirrored and has a round rattan glass table with 4 matching tropical armchairs. The dining area looks straight out to the ocean, unobstructed, over the exquisitely maintained lawn. The large, private lanai is surrounded by clear glass and has a glass bistro table with two swivel rocker chairs – a perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or a romantic oceanfront dinner! The bedroom has a high quality California King sized bed, high quality bedding, multi speed ceiling fan, modern furniture, closet, digital security safe and telephone. The master bathroom has a full size, walk in shower, a beautiful cherry vanity with granite countertop. The matching half bath has been finished to the same high standard. Both bathrooms have Kohler toilets. This condo is fully equipped with fresh linens and towels, hair dryer, iron/ironing board. All units have beach towels and a cooler. Umbrellas and snorkel gear are NOT supplied, but are often left behind in the units by other guests – no guarantees. The Kihei Surfside office loans out beach chairs free of charge during regular business hours - Monday to Saturday. Office is closed Sundays and Holidays. Coin laundry facilities are available on site. The unit has free, wireless high speed internet and free long distance calling to the United States and Canada. It is also equipped with a state of the art Oracode door lock, whereby each guest is issued a unique code which controls the door only during their stay. No keys! This unit is an excellent choice for guests who are looking for a beautifully remodeled unit in a quiet, private location in the building with a lovely view of the Pacific Ocean, the Kamaole Beaches, the oceanfront manicured lawn and garden and the West Maui Mountains. For units that accommodate more than 2 guests (4 guests maximum), additional fees apply for additional guests at the rate of $15 per night for youths (17 and under) and $25 per night for adults (18 and over). This unit is an excellent choice for guests who are looking for a beautifully remodeled unit in a quiet, private location in the building with a lovely view of the Pacific Ocean, the Kamaole Beaches, the oceanfront manicured lawn and garden and the West Maui Mountains. The Kihei Surfside Resort is located at 2936 S. Kihei Road, South Kihei at the entrance of beautiful Wailea. This is the desert part of Maui, where the sun shines more than any other part of the island. The Kihei Surfside Resort consists of an absolute oceanfront concrete building of 6 floors and 84 deluxe units with an elevator. The building underwent an extensive makeover during the summer of 2015, it was closed for six months. Each unit received new windows, doors and railings, and the building itself had a complete concrete restoration and paint with new hallway carpeting. There is free parking on site. The resort is a twenty-five minute drive from the Kahului Airport (OGG). Rental cars are available at the airport or in Kihei town. There are also taxis available at the airport (about $50), a shuttle bus and public transportation. Virtually all of the other properties and resorts in Kihei are either located right on busy S. Kihei Rd., or if they are set back from the road - are across from the street from the ocean. One unique feature of the Kihei Surfside is that it is located at the quiet end of S. Kihei Road, AND it is set back 300 feet from S. Kihei Road AND it is located right on the ocean! Because it is hard to see from the road, many first time Surfside guests say that even though they have visited Kihei many times, they had never seen the Kihei Surfside Resort! Another unique feature of the property is that it has a 2 acre, immaculately kept oceanfront lawn area with dozens of loungers, with a heated swimming pool and deluxe barbeque facilities. In season, there are daily whale sightings from both the grounds and lanais. In fact, the Pacific Whale Foundation conducts their annual whale count from this property. The building is located at the north end of Keawakapu Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on Maui (voted Maui's most romantic), where you can walk for miles past some of the most expensive oceanfront homes on the island and among the most luxurious hotels of Wailea. The unit was great, with nice decor, a well stocked kitchen, nice appliances, a GORGEOUS view from the main room/kitchen and lanai. There was air conditioning, and while it was very hot in July we never felt a need to use it. The wind off the ocean kept the unit cool and had us sleeping peacefully at night. We would rent this unit and from Rosie's Rentals again (I rented through VRBO this time but would go directly through the owner next time). The building, Kihei Surfside is great. Quiet, friendly, right on the ocean, free checkout from office of beach chairs and umbrellas (keep them for a week!), plus lawn games, etc. The pool is nice and sheltered from wind in the afternoon. Parking is easy. There is a nice lawn and the fabulous beach is steps away. This is on the south "quiet" side of Kihei, so you feel like you're a world away but can be at restaurants or Starbucks only a mile away. We enjoyed walking down the beach and to the walkway in Wailea. There is crazy great snorkeling along the lava rocks and coral right in front of the building...we saw tons of fish, moray eels, eagle rays, 7-11 crabs, and even a sizeable (and timid) reef shark one morning. There is the 808 Market in the building next door when you can grab a lot of things quickly (including sandwiches and drinks/coffee) and also a rental place for SUP and kayaks. The apartment is great with everything you could need and a wonderful view. We were very comfortable there. The room met our expectations based on the description. The trade winds died down a couple of nights and there was no a/c, but luckily there were several fans! Unfortunately we had to keep the large sliding door closed at night to keep out beetles that loved to come in through its cracks. There was construction on site that was not too disruptive, but unfortunately construction on the nearby street was noisy starting at 9 each weekday. We also received over a dozen emails related to our booking, which seemed excessive. Overall 4.5/5, would be 5/5 with a/c and no construction. ##### David D.
