The best area to stay in Kibale is near the Kibale National Park visitor centre, particularly in the village of Bigodi or along the main road leading to the park entrance.Bigodi is a small, quiet village located just outside the park's perimeter, making it incredibly convenient for early morning chimpanzee trekking. It's known for its community-based tourism initiatives, including the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, where you can take guided walks to see various primates and birds. Accommodations here often blend into the natural surroundings, offering a peaceful base.Couples looking for a memorable and authentic experience will appreciate staying in Bigodi. The proximity to the park means less travel time and more opportunities for wildlife encounters. Many lodges in this area offer comfortable bungalows or bandas, sometimes with views of the forest, providing a relaxing retreat after a day of exploration. For families, staying slightly further afield along the main road towards Fort Portal can offer more resort-style accommodations with amenities such as swimming pools and larger grounds. These options still provide easy access to Kibale National Park, usually within a 30-minute drive, and often come with a broader range of dining choices suitable for children.

The best time to visit Kibale is during Uganda's two dry seasons, from December to February and again from June to September. These months offer more predictable weather, with less rain, making forest activities like chimpanzee trekking much more comfortable and the trails easier to navigate. The drier conditions also mean the forest canopy is less dense, which can improve visibility for spotting chimpanzees and other wildlife. For families, visiting during these dry periods is particularly beneficial. The drier trails are less slippery, reducing the risk of falls for younger trekkers, and the generally sunny weather allows for more enjoyable outdoor exploration of the park's diverse ecosystems.Couples looking for a more private and intimate experience might find the shoulder months of March, May, October, and November appealing. While there's a higher chance of rain, the park is typically less crowded, and the lush, green landscape is particularly beautiful.
