Room is big, food is delicious n environment is beautiful. The service fm hotel staffs are very good, you just feel that you are so welcomed. As non Japanese speakers the staff tried really hard with Google translate to communicate with us which was appreciated. Food was delicious & different each day. The garden view from the rooms & dining area were lovely. The only minor complaint was the hard Japanese style pillow which seemed to be full of rice or some kind of grain??? We tried to embrace it as part of the experience! Great location, can walk everywhere and/or there is a bus stop outside the hotel. Staff guide you around the property, which is quite unusual when you're used to staying in standars hotels. Staff have varying levels of English but thanks to Google translate it didn't cause any problems. Peaceful, traditional, with a beautiful well-kept garden. Unfortunately, the staff spoke very poor English, to the point that communication was difficult. Also, they insisted on rigid timelines for breakfast and dinner: they come knocking on your door for each meal -- it felt a bit as if I am living in a dorm. Most importantly, I did not appreciate that you forced me to checkout at 10:30am, when the official checkout is 11am. No explanation given. Also, drinks during the "free" (included in price) kaiseki dinner are not free, and this was unclear -- I got a bill on the last day. Location of this ryokan is great and staff are very friendly. Enjoyed the experience but as an American, I didn’t think the food was very good and I typically love Japanese food. There was an excessive use of gelatin coating on many of the dishes. Also, 2.25 hours for dinner was too long.
