Nice time in Kona

Me and my family spent some very nice time in Kona. George and Elisa's rental is very well located with an awesome view on the Ocean. The house is fully equiped to feel like at your own home. It's a bit hot during the afternoon but you can then enjoy one of the island beach. I will probably be back there if I can go to big Island again !

Wonderful location, frustrating experience

Great house and location overlooking the water with two spacious lanais, a large upstairs area to lounge and cook, and an equally large downstairs area. This place can definitely hold a large group of people comfortably. Located a short distance from the highway and about 20 min from Kona town, my group never felt like we had far to go to either hit a beach or hit the road to another part of the island. Neighborhood is quiet and residential, with Safeway, Walmart, and Costco a short drive away. My three friends and I were excited to check-in here for our working vacation based on the amenities and photos listed, and unfortunately our experience fell short of what is advertised. Upon check-in, we did a quick check for wifi as all of us needed to work during our stay to discover that the modem was not functioning. We contacted the owner and it took a good deal of communication to emphasize that this was one of the reasons we rented the place and that we required it for work. I'll say he was relatively prompt on getting the ISP in to fix it up, but it required getting VRBO/Evolve involved. It also took almost a week to get the code to the padlock on the shed that contained the coolers and beach gear, which were rather dirty and we had to clean. On the whole the place seemed clean enough but there were some notable issues. The master bedroom had a good bit of dirt in the corner of the room by the circular side table, and I was horrified to find the coffee maker had an extremely moldy filter & grounds in it when I opened it up on the first morning. Noting that the last review for the place was 10 months ago in Feb'20, I shuddered to think that it had been left there that long and what else could be left uncleaned. The kitchen had pretty much all the gear we needed, however outside of salt & pepper, there were zero cooking basics, spices, or dishwasher/laundry soap, which we all purchased and supplied the house with. I noticed that was a recurring theme in the other reviews. We had emailed the property beforehand to ask what was there but never got a response. All in all, a lovely location but definitely needs the owner to be little more involved for this to be a great stay vs a good stay with side of headaches.

Great but?

We enjoyed our 2week stay very much. There were a few problems: Had to buy toilet paper The garbage disposal was broken Propane in grill only lasted about 15 minutes The remotes for the tv’s went bad in 2 of 3 rooms so we had to buy batteries. Property manager lives in California. Didn’t know where battery charger was or it was not where he thought it was. Said to send bill and it would be reimbursed. Will do when we get back home. A local manager would be better. In spite of these small issues we had a great time. I don’t remember if the listing mentioned there was no AC but it should I believe. Thanks lots. Chip Smith.

Fabulous stay for the whole family

We were so pleased staying at Dok and Lisa's Kona house, everything was just as described or better! The layout was perfect for the six adults and (well behaved) toddler. We each had a room or area to call our own, as well as spaces to come together and enjoy each other's company like in the open kitchen and living room, or out on the lanai as we sipped morning coffee or watched the sunset. Fully equipped to make meals at home and just close enough to the restaurants of Kailua. Traffic in the area can be a beast at times, but we had no problem using the location as a jumping off point for numerous excursions to the sights of Hawai'i. We were provided a full list of helpful information about the rental as well as great suggestions (most with descriptions) for beaches, restaurants, activities, and other places of interest. Our family had such a great vacation on the Big Island and a lot of that had to do with staying here!

Wonderful time

The family and I had a perfect time at the house. Large space and lanai to enjoy both inside and out. Lots of amenities and small touches that made our stay easy. A great location for the major attractions along the Kona coast.

This property had a great location. We were very close to the Holua Tennis Courts where we had a tournament. It was an 8 minute drive to the courts. The house was very clean, and the check in process was very easy.

Very beautiful home.

Had everything that we needed except the bottom floor didn't have fans. And at night it was extremely hot, was unbearable for sleeping. We were there during record breaking heat spell and bought a floor fan and that made it bearable the rest of our stay. I think owners should invest in floor and ceiling fans.

Kona Hawaii House on the Hill

Love the place we stayed at it was great had everything for your stay , great kitchen , 3 bathrooms lots of space to relax in ,the porch was to die for it over looked the ocean and you had the most beautiful sunsets. We were 5 min.. from the beach and 10 mi n. from down town farmer market. I will tell all my friends about this place ,my son want to go back again .

Living like kamaaina (a local) for a month!

We just spent a month here. The house had everything we needed to feel right at home. We particularly liked having the fully stocked kitchen plus the high-end washer and dryer came in really handy. Nice big flatscreen tv’s everywhere and a gas grill added to our enjoyment. There’s lots of room to spread out, too. Oh, and did I mention the views to the ocean are gorgeous and we loved watching the sunsets every night. Mahalo, Dok and Lisa!

Wonderful home for our vacation stay in Kona

We had two families of four stay at George's gorgeous home for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The home is spacious, lots of space upstairs and downstairs for the teenagers to hang out and the adults to do their own thing. The balcony view is great, along with sunsets everyday. George was very accommodating and the house has a fully-equipped kitchen and dishware. The location is not far from downtown Kona and very convenient. Mahalo, George!

Too hot to handle!!!!

Needed to buy 2 additional fans to try and cool the house so it was livable. Was not successful even though all windows were open and outside blinds were down in the afternoon. Master bedroom was the hottest and was extremely difficult to sleep. Strongly suggest finding a property a couple of hundred feet higher to get the cooling needed to enjoy your visit. Extremely disappointing for a 32 day stay.

Nice, nice place.... Great value!

The VRBO listing does not do this place justice. Everything was better than depicted. We absolutely loved our stay here. The hosts were exceptionally helpful. They are very knowledgeable and friendly and made the visit to Kona and the Big Island more enjoyable by sharing their knowledge. We enjoyed speaking with him and listening to his great suggestions about what to do on the island. The home was very comfortable, very clean house with everything furnished. The neighborhood was upscale and quiet. The neighbors were friendly. Doc and Lisa have put some thought into making guests feel at home. Their effort to make the stay as good as possible showed! We've stayed in dozens of vacation rental homes in locations around the world. This one ranks in the top 5% and we are planning to visit again next year. Many thanks to 'Doc' and Lisa for their wonderful hospitality.

Struck Gold!

What a nice place! It had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The views are 'to die for'. Boats, cruise ships, paddlers, surfers, dolphins, whales, Kona town (very pretty at night with all the lights) and some real wow sunsets. The owners, Dok and Lisa, were very friendly and helpful and good communicators. Can't say enough good about what a good choice this was. Will definitely stay there on our next visit to the Big Island..
