Absolutely fantastic stay at hotel Nakahara Bessou in Kagoshima! The staff here are exceptional. They were very friendly and even helped us book a rental car and ferry to yakushima. The rooms are as described, very clean and spacious. The onsen in the evenings was divine. Though it has the word onsen in its name, the hotspring was a disappointment with only one hotspring pool and nothing else, not even an external hotspring pool. But the hotel is very well located with the Tenmonkan Shopping Districr just beside it. It met both of those criteria, and was in a prime location to explore downtown Kagoshima City. I really appreciated that the staff kept our luggage before we checked in and after we checked out. Great location, close to many shops and park. Only negatives were that the hotel did not have laundry facilities, and the room key had to be left at the desk when leaving the hotel - this meant that if there was a line when we returned,we had to wait to get the room key.
