It is part of a park-like, six-acre oceanfront property known as the Seaward Estate. Historically, Seaward was one of five salmon trap sites along the Juan de Fuca Strait until the 1950s. Seaward offers a variety of stunning natural landscapes, including two beaches with thousands of feet of picturesque coastline, West Coast forest, and scenic woodland trails. It remains one of the finest oceanfront properties in the Greater Victoria Region. With real estate values steadily rising over the past two decades, many prime oceanfront properties have been subdivided and redeveloped. A large, original oceanfront estate like Seaward—preserving its natural beauty and historical character—is increasingly rare. The Rowan Cottage sits directly on the oceanfront and offers 1,356 square feet of living space. Extensively remodeled in 2023, the main level features an open-concept kitchen, dining, and study area. There are two bedrooms—one with a king-size bed and the other with a queen-size bed—as well as a full bathroom on this level. The living room is located six steps down from the main level, at the garden level, with direct access to a patio through sliding doors. All rooms feature large windows that frame sweeping views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. The ever-changing light from dawn to dusk is truly mesmerizing. The patio includes outdoor seating, a dining table, and a BBQ. From the sliding door in the king bedroom, guests can access the highest point on the property, which offers a panoramic view sweeping from the East Beach to the West Beach. Sitting in one of the chairs, watching the sunrise and sunset, spotting wildlife, and seeing fishing boats pass by is a spectacular experience. A beach house on East Beach provides a play area for children and a relaxing spot for adults. Naturally, guests love spending time on the beaches. The East Beach offers a flatter, pebbled surface ideal for walking, while the West Beach features giant rocks, small coves, and secret hideaways perfect for exploration. Guests also enjoy discovering the forest trails. Benches at the ends of the Sunset Trail and Otter Trail provide peaceful spots for reading, wildlife watching, or enjoying the sunset. Others love to picnic—breakfast, lunch, or dinner—on the deck at the end of the Orca Trail, often with a glass of wine in hand. For those needing to stay connected, the cottage offers free Wi-Fi. A 50" smart TV provides access to cable channels, Netflix, YouTube, and more. On chilly evenings, a wood stove adds warmth and cozy comfort. On dark and clear nights, lucky guests may enjoy an unforgettable stargazing experience, with the Milky Way stretching across the sky above the Strait and disappearing into the Olympic Mountains. Love this property! Very clean inside and outside. Loved the views from all the rooms, beaches were easy to get to. Property felt very private and safe. We saw whales from the property almost every morning. We cant wait to return and have shared our great experience with family and friends. The location is simply incredible and we were amazed at the variety of wildlife on our doorstep. We saw Orca, humming birds, bald eagles, gray or humpback whales, rabbits, deers,seals and sea otters all in or from the garden.Can 100% recommend and would definitely go again. ##### Nick L. It’s a beautiful spot. We love all of the places you can hang out - beach, beach house, picnic tables, patio, chairs by the cliff. House is very comfortable and because we were there a week, we made use of the washer and dryer. Much appreciated. The bed is super comfortable. Ray is around for anything you might need and he’s great to talk to. Our only suggestion for improvement is keeping the windows and sliding glass door cleaner. Closest to the water & even though I had read & saw all the pictures I walked in & both my husband & I said WOW! Awesome picture windows in living room & mstr bdrm! Had a black bear mosey through our back yard just before dark! So cool!!! Watched a pod of resident whales for 30 mins. Shirley’s Delicious was just that delicious! Ray the grounds keeper is such a nice man & made is feel so welcome. I’d recommend this place everyday of the year. Wonderful 50th anniversary!
