This huge, stylish and elegant apartment offers a unique hamam bathroom where you can relax on a warmed marble slab to the sound of water flowing from the antique carved sink. The shared terrace has gorgeous views across the Golden Horn to the Old City. We also offer a selection of 'experiences' with our local guides, to help you build your own genuine and memorable perspective on the city. Our apartment is on the first floor – one flight of original marble stairs – of a grand and elegant 19th century building very near to Galata Tower. The building entrance is on a characterful cobbled street, packed with intriguing boutiques and cafés. A few floors up on the roof-top, the shared terrace has gorgeous views across the Golden Horn to the Old City. You’re invited to take your drinks or meals up to the roof terrace any time you like, for a very special experience of the city. It’s about 3 minutes walk to Sishane metro station, less than 5 minutes walk to Tünel funicular and a short downhill walk to connect with the tram for Sultanahmet. Famous Istiklal Avenue is less than 5 minutes walk up the hill. This apartment boasts a unique hamam shower room where you can relax on a warmed marble slab to the sound of water flowing into the antique carved sink: perfect after a busy day exploring. In addition to the hamam shower room there’s a second large shower-room with marble counter-top and another roomy shower. The four bedrooms are stylish: three doubles and one twin, each with chic velvet headboards and high quality crisp white linens. The twin beds can be pushed together if preferred. The bedrooms are arranged around a large and atmospheric central hall with comfy seating, great for snuggling up with a good book. The open plan kitchen-living area is very spacious and sociably laid out. The brand new kitchen is chic and well-equipped, with high-end appliances including a dish-washer. Freshly-upholstered vintage sofa and chairs invite you to relax and there’s a bar table for snacking. Original dark wooden floorboards give a warm feel and all doors are elegant dark wood originals, adding lots of character and spirit. The ceilings are extremely high giving a relaxing sense of space. This apartment is a very big 150 m2 in total, serene and restful with a quiet, solid grace. The bedrooms comfortably accommodate eight people. Guests will have the complete privacy of the entire apartment. The roof terrace, shared with all apartments in the building, is available for your careful use at any time. In the same building we also offer three other apartments. The two or three apartments booked together are ideal for a large group. This is a small Turkish-British family project. Julia and Tarkan used to live in Istanbul then Singapore and are now balancing life between England and Istanbul. If we're in Istanbul during your stay we'd love to meet you. Your questions and booking will be handled by us wherever we are. When you arrive in Istanbul Tarkan’s wonderful family and/or our friendly team will welcome you to your apartment, give you the keys and explain about practicalities and the neighbourhoods. Galata has a genuine, very welcoming and diverse community with an intriguing mix of cafes, restaurants, small grocery shops and artistic boutiques. Elegant 19th Century buildings line cobbled streets, with discoveries waiting around every corner. No matter where you wander, you’ll always find your way back to Galata Tower, which has been a well-loved landmark for the last 700 years. Metro, bus, tram and ferry stops are all only a couple of minutes’ walk away. You can be in Sultanahmet (for the big sights of Ayasofya, Topkapı, Blue Mosque etc.) in about 12 minutes by public transport or 20 minutes on foot. In the other direction, by Metro, you can be in Şişli (for Istanbul’s biggest shopping mall) in 10 minutes or Levent (for Istanbul’s business district) in 15 minutes. There are many taxi ranks around and some secure car parks too. Will your stay with us make a difference? We hope so… By self-catering right in the local community you’ll quickly become part of it, financially supporting small grocery shops and other family businesses. You’ll soon make relationships with these friendly people and develop a genuine understanding of the culture around you. We’re sure you’ll leave with special memories and more developed perspectives as a result of your encounters. For each confirmed booking we arrange a tree to be planted in Turkey (via TEMA) to offset part of the carbon dioxide emission from the resulting flight. We encourage you to plant more trees: easily arranged during online booking. We use local maintenance and cleaning services for the apartments and in this way we provide a good income for 2 families who lives nearby.We do everything we can to preserve all the original features and materials in the apartments. Where new materials are needed we source them locally, prioritising products that are designed and/or made in Turkey. Our apartments are uniquely situated amongst mosques, churches, synagogues, a mevlevi ‘whirling dervish’ hall and other sites of religious significance. L'appartement est très bien propre, aménagement parfait. Seule point négatif il est au premier étage sans double vitrage donc nous avions l'impression de dormir dans la rue temps le bruit est fort. The location is AMAZING - right in the center of an active fun historical neighborhood. The roof views are breathtaking. I wish there was a seating area up there. Maybe there is in warmer weather?. I would of liked some basic things like shower soap, shampoo, garbage bags, kitchen towels. We were so impressed! First, the apartment is exactly as shown. Everything was charming, clean and up-to-date. Perfect for larger groups. Second, their communication was outstanding. One of the best VRBO experiences I have ever had. For example, we wanted more towels. They were delivered within a few hours. We left and item in the apartment after check out. They were in touch with us immediately. They were beyond accommodating! Third, the location and the rooftop views - wow. Everything was truly fantastic. We highly, highly, highly recommend this. We were 9 adult travellers in 2 apartments. We all had an absolute blast - thanks in no small part to these wonderful apartments and our attentive hosts: Tarkan and Julia. Overall very good stay for our family in Istanbul. The property is located right by the Galata tower with plenty local shopping and dining options. You can walk or take nearby tram many main attractions in Istanbul. Host was very prompt in commutations. The apartment has all the amenities for living. The apartment is old but well renovated with nice hamaam style touches. There may be three reason this place might not be for you: 1\. The apartment and neighborhood is very old without accessibility features. The area is very hilly as well with old cobble street pavements. If you need accessibility you may want to look elsewhere. 2\. The building is old and does not provide adequate noise suppression. You can hear people in the street talking from the bedroom. This is a very live area of city, however, noise mostly dies down after 11pm. If you are sensitive to noise you may want to look elsewhere. 3\. The area is nice, very lively, but is part of old Istanbul. Very easy to visit all the sites either by walking or on public transport. There are loads of cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. There’s an excellent artisan bakery just a few steps away which sells the most delicious pistachio bread - a must! The views from the terrace are absolutely stunning. It is a lively area but this just adds to its charm. I would recommend taking advantage of the taxi service from the airport. We used the airport transport service--first class experience and convenient, highly recommend. Tarkan greeted us for a brief orientation to the warm and cozy apartment located just next to the Galata Tower. The view from the rooftop terrace gave us a panoramic 360 view of Istanbul. The Galata neighborhood was quaint, with lots of cafes and shops. A short 10 minute walk across the Galata bridge brought us to all the magnificent history of Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Roman Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern and Grand Bazaar. Also, there we caught the Bosphorus River Boat Tour, and then disembarked on the Asian side to explore those neighborhoods. We were very happy with our choice in the Galata neighborhood -- the apartment is centrally located to all the amazing sites, sounds and tastes of Istanbul, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, comfortable beds, and responsive hosts.
