#### Built on the ruins of Charlemagne’s palace, this town hall is regarded as a masterpiece of Gothic and Baroque architecture in Aachen.

Aachen Town Hall is an impressive building in the old town of Aachen. The historic structure was built in the 14th century on the former site of Charlemagne’s Carolingian palace. Tour Aachen Town Hall to learn about its rich history and see many fascinating artworks and artifacts.

Watch a short film about the former Carolingian palace in Aachen Town Hall’s foyer. The hall is near other sections of the palace complex, including Aachen Cathedral, a marvelous Roman Catholic church. Stop at Aachen Town Hall between visits to other attractions, such as the Couven-Museum and the International Newspaper Museum.

Observe Granus Tower, the oldest existing section of Aachen Town Hall. The first four floors of the tower date to the late 8th century and the top two floors were built during the 14th century. The tower’s spire has been repeatedly rebuilt throughout history following fires and air raids.

Visit the white hall on a group or individual tour. Italian stucco artists redecorated the hall in the 18th century. Look for a winged horse with a goat’s head in the stucco. The white hall is one of the most beautifully decorated rooms in Aachen Town Hall. The hall also features an ornate crystal chandelier and old portraits lining the walls.

Stop at the coronation hall, one of Aachen Town Hall’s most popular areas. The hall was used in the Middle Ages for coronation banquets and is now used for cultural events and concerts. It features monumental columns and handsomely decorated curved ceilings. Other excellent features of Aachen Town Hall include the council hall and the peace hall.

Find Aachen Town Hall next to Aachen Cathedral. The old town is in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Aachen is about 400 miles (640 kilometers) from Berlin. Discounted admission rates apply for groups and those planning to visit the Couven-Museum and the International Newspaper Museum.

Only light in the room was from desk lamp, floor lamp and bedside lamps. Even with all lamps on, the room was just dimly lit. No dresser for clothes, just a deep, dark cubby cabinet with 1 shelf. Easier to "live" out of our suitcases the 4 nts we were there than have to bend over, searching cabinet with a flashlight for clothes to wear. Breakfast was ok. No traditional German Brötchen. There were some small "voll korn" rolls which were nice, but otherwise just mini kaiser rolls and rolls COVERED in poppy seeds and sesame seeds. By end of breakfast each morning those were the only rolls left. Obviously not a popular item. Suggest they nix those overly seeded rolls for some traditional brötchen. Also no elevator to the ground floor, so had to carry suitcases up/down flight of stairs. Not handicap friendly. Overall rating would be a 3.8.

Overall, the hotel was good and I had a pleasant stay. I did not receive any VIP benefits such as a room upgrade or similar perks. As an Expedia Gold Member, I was expecting at least one VIP offer from the hotel, but no benefits were provided at all. The only thing I received was early check-in Additionally, the hotel did not provide slippers in the room. For a hotel of this quality, I consider this a significant downside, as even basic amenities like slippers are expected.
