Walk to town and everything Highlands has to offer. Main level offers an open floor plan with a kitchen, living and dining area, laundry, and half bath. The master bedroom has a king bed and private bath. The screened porch overlooks native rhododendrons, which also helps provide Whispering Woods a private setting. The upper level has two bedrooms and one full bath. One bedroom has a Queen bed, and the other has a queen bed and one twin- perfect for visiting guest overflow. Enjoy the cool mountain air on the screened porch, a great place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon glass of wine, and always with a good book. Whispering Woods proves to be the quintessential home base for discovering Highlands and the surrounding mountain happenings. NOTE: The gas log fireplace is not working and is not considered to be an amenity of this property. This property is IN town, but the setting is serene and private. Easy walking distance to Harris Lake- a great place for a small picnic or to watch the ducks and geese. Another few hundred steps will lead you to the library, churches, and Main Street, and don't forget about The Nature Center or hiking up Sunset Rock- you can look down over the whole town from there. Rest assured, almost everything is within 5-10 minutes if you must take your car. The restaurants in Highlands range from pick-up food (there are no fast food chain restaurants) to 4-star dining places. The shopping has you covered with varied items from T-shirts to furs, trinkets to high-fashion, fine jewelry, collectibles for your home, and furnishings. WiFi is included All three TVs have an Amazon Firestick for ease in watching. An added plus- YouTube TV is INCLUDED, so you will be able to watch any show provided, including most sports. There are NO discounts on the nightly rate for this home. The gas-log fireplace may not be operable and is not included in the rental. This home has a three-night minimum, except for HOLIDAYS AND SOME LOCAL EVENTS NO PETS (note for those who are allergy prone: the owner of this home has a pet, so it's not a 'pet-free' home) Although nightly rates are $425.00, certain holidays and local events are $795.00 nightly The rental app you are using may allow you to make two or three-night rentals during these times, but that doesn't mean the reservation will be honored. Quick 10 minute walk to shops, but I would not walk it at night as it is too dark. The property was clean and just a perfect rental for a family. We brought our teenage daughter and her friends and the upstairs bedrooms were perfect for the four of them. Downside: they only gave us one key which was very inconvenient. The agency sent a maid and we sat outside on porch waiting for her to clean the whole house. After complaining/asking, agency at least refunded our cleaning deposit. Negatives were ice maker didn’t work, both tvs upstairs didn’t work, the step up from gravel driveway to stair entry was steep from erosion and needs addressing. Description says walkable to town, but doesnt tell half of the walk is up a hill!! The amenities in the house were nice and welcoming. Kitchen well stocked, felt like owners used the house as well. Best part was the screened in porch, comfy, very private overlooking woods. Would stay again if we didn’t want to walk to town. Reviewer Comments: The location of the house was okay - down a gravel road and it would definitely be quite a walk into town - especially after days spent hiking.The layout of the house is great and just as described. It was nice being in the trees.Where things fall short: the mattress badly need to be replaced. The mattress toppers are not enough! Who wants to go on vacation and not be able to sleep? Each and every bed was horrible.The house was not clean on arrival. Very dusty - obvious just by looking. The 1/2 bath toilet was dirty, the shower in the master had mold in the grout lines, there were crayons and other items left out on the tables in the master (from previous guests)? I think their idea of cleaning was changing the sheets (hopefully), putting out clean towels, and emptying the dishwasher (which was very hard to figure out how to start). The sofa in the main room needs to be replaced - very worn. I hope they spend my $35 non-refundable security deposit on a new coffee maker. The heat pad on it is completed rusted. The cabinets were sticky. I am not sure if it was the paint or just dirty. It would make a world of difference to have the cabinets refaced. ##### Ann D. ### 10/10 Excellent #### David V. The house and the setting were beautiful. The screened in porch afforded us many enjoyable hours. However, even though the house is listed on VRBO, once you book it you are directed to a local Realty Company. VRBO then charges a service fee. The price on VRBO was not accurate. It was more expensive than listed. It would have been better had I booked through local real estate company that actually manages the property and saved the VRBO service fee..
