When I saw the photos on VRBO, it was the location on the water and the view that caused me to book. The reality is even betters. It’s hard to find a more beautiful spot in a more tranquil setting. Picture Casco Bay in all directions from your deck, with boats moored in the distance and fishing trollers and lobster boats slowly passing by. Sunsets, seagulls, sea air, and moonlight over water at night. It is pristine, unspoiled, and breathtaking. The cottage is small, but perfectly kept and stocked with new appliances and accoutremont. Everything you need. The bathroom is tiny, but they warn you. If you’re looking for luxury, this might not be your place. Rather, it is the perfect family retreat — cozy and charming and captivating. We could not have been happier. I have teenagers and even they were happy. We played so many games in the dining room at night, corn hole on the grass during the day, The beach is more pebbly than sandy, but that’s Maine, unless you want to drive an hour to Popham, which you should, since it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. This region - Harpswell, Bailey Island, Orr’s -,is truly a gem, unspoiled and slower paced. There’s not a lot around,, though it’s easy to take a day trip to Freeport or Portland or other places. If you enjoy the tranquility of reading a book and gazing out at the ocean and reconnecting with your family, I couldn’t think of a better place.
