Don’t let you scare by the terrible dirt road up there, the resort is very nice and with an amazing overview of both river and city in the distance. Nice terraces perfect for that afternoon tea with the sun setting between the steep surreal mountains on the opposite side of the river. Very nice and helpful staff. And we can recommend the chef, especially her jiaozi’s are good (my wife is Chinese). Instead, the view was only available from a private outlook. The man in charge was helpful. He provided guidance, advice, and flash light to be used if one wanted to go to town. The town was far about 30 minutes walk from the hotel. Prices were 30% higher in town due to tourism activity. The staff, especially Grace, were incredibly helpful and spoke great English. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they booked buses, taxis to pick us up from the cruise, dawn photography trips etc. The negatives are that it is a bit far out from main Yangshuo. You will need to walk about 20 minutes and take a few minutes 10p ferry across the river, or take a taxi. The trade off are the views you get from this location. If you don't mind a bit of a journey into Yangshuo this is fine. You can hire bikes, tandems, mopeds etc in Yansghuo to explore the beautiful region. There is a LOT of construction going on in and around Yangshuo and I think in a few years this place will have loads more amenities for tourists (as Guilin already has). The view from our room was amazing and provided a nice retreat on our vacation. The hotel staff was also very accommodating. If you want to go into the city, it's very easy and only costs about 30-50 RMB via taxi. The view of the mountains and city were great! This hotel is a bit out of the city, though we walked into town each day to see sights and took a taxi back to the hotel a couple of times, but walked back also. The staff was very nice and willing to joke around with a good sense of humor. They helped arrange any activities we wanted and gave us information to help us get around town. The food was home cooked and very tasty. He was unable to answer any of our questions about local amenities or excursions- both to our surprise and to the obvious dismay of another tourist observer in the reception area at the same time. In response to one of my questions, he suggested that I should come back to reception in one hour's time and pose the same question to the next person on duty! We were then shown to our room. Despite clearly paying for a room with a view we were shown to a room overlooking a courtyard of the staff quarters, with no view and no privacy. We asked why we could not be taken to a room with a view (as we had paid for) and were told that "maybe tomorrow you can change rooms, perhaps." In other words- "don't bother me with your irritating requests until I'm no longer on duty." My wife (not one for giving up) went to complain to the management and eventually we got moved a short while after, albeit with no apology (NB we should have had a room with a view in the first place). The management's only concern was to be certain that we had not "messed up" our first room. To be fair both the rooms that we experienced were clean and light. However, we then had difficulty with the air conditioning unit. Added to that the bed was rock solid uncomfortable and there were no cupboards for us to unpack our belongings. Also, the TV is only Chinese. I thought Yangshuo was supposed to be quiet and peaceful but the town center (West Street) is anything but peaceful. We were glad we chose to stay at this retreat as our favorite part of the trip was just hanging out on the terrace of our room and enjoying the views. We had a bit of a mix-up with the rooms in the beginning and it is somewhat difficult to communicate, however the owner and staff try to do their best. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Always there to help. The food is surprisingly good and fresh. Really enjoyed the breakfast. It's a nice little walk through an old village to get to Yangshuo. Only takes about 20-30 minutes. Highly recommend. ##### chris ### 6/10 – Acceptable #### Susann, Beijing 3 mai 2014 Points faibles : Service et personnel #### Schöne Anlage aber wenig Service Wir sind mit höheren Erwartungen im Dongling angekommen. Die Anlage ist tatsächlich (noch) sehr schön aber man merkt das es viel Arbeit kostet die, so unser Eindruck, vom Personal nicht vollständig bewältigt wird. Die Unterkunft liegt an einem ruhigen Hang von wo aus man nur den Schiffsverkehr hört, sonst nichts außer Natur. (Unsere 1,5 Jahre alte Tochter mussten wir somit ständig an die Hand nehmen.) Bei Ankunft wurde uns als erstes ein Bungalow (ganz neu) statt dem gebuchten Zimmer angeboten. Nach kurzem Hin und Her konnten wir dann doch das Zimmer mit Flußblick und Balkon beziehen. Der Weg nach Yangshuo ist nur mit vorher angefragtem Taxi zu bewältigen (30Yuan pro Fahrt!! Das ist obere Preisklasse, die Taxen aus der Stadt zum Resort nehmen teilweiße bis zu 50 Yuan). Wir hatten uns eigentlich am meisten auf die Spaziergänge in die Stadt gefreut, leider war selbst ein Versuch dessen nicht zufrieden stellend. Das "Restaurant" hat sehr begrenzte Öffnungszeiten und auch nur grundlegendes "Western Food", für das westl. Frühstück konnten wir uns gar nicht erwärmen. Wobei die Karte für das chin. Frühstück ganz gut aussah, reichhaltig. Als Fazit würden wir das Dongling für chinesischen Standard als recht gut bewerten, auch sauber und halbwegs organisiert. Mit den Ansprüchen eines internat. Resorts hat es bis auf die Anlage und den Ausblick wenig zu tun. English wird nur von der Chefin selbst gesprochen, das restl.
