Watch critically claimed plays and musicals and engage in conversations with actors and directors at this influential arts hub.

Take your seat in the Grand Theater’s main auditorium and enjoy an internationally acclaimed show or watch some local theater at the venue’s more intimate second performance space.

Since the theater opened in 1901, some of the world’s most respected and distinguished actors have graced its stage, including Sidney Poitier, Dame Maggie Smith and William Hutt.

While you are in your seat and waiting for the performance to begin, admire the magnificent proscenium arch. The decorative arch above the stage features a mural painted by Canadian artist Frederick Sproston Challener.

You can also see what’s happening at the 150-seat McManus Auditorium. Local theater plays, comedy shows and concerts takes place here. There are also performances specifically designed for younger audiences. Among the favorites are those by the High School Project. This organization allows students to put on shows under the guidance of professional actors and coaches.

Ask one of the attendants about the ghost that is said to haunt the Grand. Ambrose Small, who oversaw the construction of the theater, mysteriously disappeared in 1919 and locals will tell you that his ghostly presence can be felt in the building.

The theater is situated close to the center of London with parking available in the surrounding streets.

Shows take place on both of the venue’s stages throughout the week. Visit the theater’s official website to see what’s on when you are in London. Attend one of the Tuesday Talks that are held on the second Tuesday of each show’s production run and cover topics related to the performance.
