#### Enjoy awe-inspiring views incorporating the world’s southernmost city and its surrounding lakes and valleys from the trails atop this glacier.

Visit Glacier Martial, a spectacular icy world at the end of an ascent through snowy mountains. In winter, the ski center is accessible via a chairlift that offers stunning views of the surrounding region. Above the lift, the remaining ascent is not too steep, so beginner trekkers can manage it. This glacier is distinctive in that visitors come for the surrounding views rather than the ice structure itself.

Ride the chairlift above drifting clouds and enjoy views of the Beagle Channel and its islands near the city of Ushuaia. Upon arriving at the lift’s terminus, you’ll see the shelter of the Andean Club of Ushuaia. Follow the trail beside a river that leads to the base of the glacier.

Alternatively, climb from the bottom of the mountain on foot in about an hour. Purchase snacks from the café and the welcome center at the base. Along the way, several refuges offer respite.

Bring appropriate gear, such as crampons and winter wear, to walk on the ice of the glacier. From the highest point, appreciate views of the Andorra Valley and the Vinciguerra Glacier. An alternative route via the Black Gorge provides an option that avoids walking on slippery ice.

Go skiing or snowboarding down the mountain’s slopes in the 13,800-acre (5,600-hectare) complex. The resort has a variety of intriguing off-piste challenges for more experienced skiers. Capture photos of the multi-colored leaves and other vegetation with a backdrop of the city and channel below.

The glacier was named after a 19th-century French explorer. Visit year-round as the access road is paved and plowed throughout winter to ensure safety.

The trail to reach Glacier Martial starts at the ski lift, which is about 6 miles (10 kilometers) northwest of the city of Ushuaia. Drive or take a taxi to the ski area and use the parking lot to begin your trip.
