Small and tidy dog-friendly cottage on the canal: For those of you who are looking for a place where all the furniture is new and everything matches, this is not it. Instead, we have a boat dock, 3 kayaks, and an outdoor shower and grill. A public boat launch is just around the corner (Please contact me if you wish to launch a boat. I will have to get a permit for you.). We also have a deck for outdoor dining, gathering with friends, reading a book, watching the birds fly by, or fishing and/or just watching the fish. Our house has a renovated kitchen and bath upstairs, along with 2 bedrooms: one queen and one double. There is another bath downstairs (connected to the upstairs with an outdoor staircase), with the laundry and an extra bed (twin). The downstairs room was a golf cart garage but is now a multi-functional room. Both the laundry and twin bed are elevated due to water fluctuations in the canal, so a step stool is available! But guess what?! You are right on the water, and that is lovely! AND, more to the point, a short drive of 1 mile gets you to the the beach (Gulf of Mexico) and all the sand, shells (maybe) and saltwater you would like! Read more here if you are interested in knowing more about the area and things to do. Otherwise, just rent the house and learn about the area on the fly. Learn about aviation at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, or about locomotion at the Galveston Island Railroad Museum, which has some of the largest restored exhibits in the US. Be sure to stop at the Pleasure Pier for carnival games, or check out The Strand Historic District's shops and restaurants. Visit Moody Gardens, a nearby amusement park with educational exhibits and varied attractions, to see an IMAX movie or watch the fish in the aquarium. For an authentic ride, take an hour-long cruise on the replica Colonel Paddlewheel Boat. There's even a golf course where you can book tee times! You'll have everything you want and more at this lovely vacation home by the canal. We truly enjoyed our stay, spending time on the newly renovated deck, really big one! With beautiful view over the canal:) It is a covered deck so life saver during summertime!:) Great place for fishing from the lower deck as well. The kids, my husband and I absolutely adored the location and the canal fishing…definitely will be back! Several drive on beach access points…community pool too! The house was clean comfortable and everything we needed. We enjoyed using the kayaks on the canal and relaxing on the prefectly shaded balcony. Being able to relax comfortably outside in the middle of July was a welcomed surprise. I spent all parts of the day enjoying a quite read on the patio. The house was clean, comfortable, and felt like home the whole time. The owners were the best—super helpful and quick to respond to anything we needed! Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Perfect for my family of four. Great kitchen and updated upstairs bathroom plus there was always a cool breeze and shade in the back. It was our first time staying on the canal and my boys had a blast fishing off the back. Lounge chairs were perfect to read my book while they fished. Beach is not far in any direction and we enjoyed being on a much quieter side of the island. So much seating! We loved eating meals on the deck overlooking the water and beautiful view! We caught blue crab with the provided crab trap and many fish! If you put a pole in the water you will definitely catch a fish! We even caught a black drum! This was our 5th time staying in this neighborhood, it is always so peaceful! We will be back!
