A farmhouse (Mas) built in the 1800s with charm and character, close to Les Baux De Provence and Saint Remy de Provence and located in the picturesque Provencal village of Fontvielle, whose windmill and ancient stone houses formed inspiration for the novelist Alphonse Daudet. Set in superb countryside in the heart of the Alpilles, surrounded by olive trees, shrubs and lush green fields, yet within walking distance of village life and amenities, this property provides the ideal venue for discovering the traditional towns and markets of the area or alternatively the cultural attractions of Arles, Avignon and Aix en Provence, as well as for hiking and walking among the natural beauty on offer in the Alpilles, or for simply relaxing in peaceful and lovely surroundings. The pale stone exterior of the Mas is typically Provencal, with bright burgundy shutters and attractive terracotta roof. The garden is totally enclosed, ensuring the utmost privacy. There is a lovely grassy lawn, a variety of Mediterranean trees providing many shady areas, shrubs and plants, as well as orderly rows of fragrantly perfumed lavender bushes and white roses. The patio just in front of the house, surrounded by terracotta stone pots with plants, is sheltered by a charming pergola and comes complete with dining table and chairs, thus providing the perfect excuse for enjoying leisurely meals in the fresh air. A covered jasmine walkway leads from the Mas though the lavender bushes and white roses to the large, sumptuous pool with stone surround. Inside the Mas various original features have been retained in order to create an attractive balance between tradition and modern comforts. In the living and dining areas there are lovely stone walls and attractive beamed ceilings, with stone flagged flooring and impressive stone fireplaces. Furnishings are simple and homely, and furniture is mainly traditional. In the lounge the colour scheme is natural and white with three sofas and two chairs, and colourful floor rugs. The atmospheric dining room boasts a long wooden traditional table and wrought iron chandelier. The light and airy kitchen which is open plan with the dining room is a charming mixture of traditional and modern, with beamed ceiling and original stone wall, as well as wooden units and tasteful marble worktops. An elegant, wrought iron staircase leads up to the characterful bedrooms with tiled flooring. The Master bedroom has elegant high beamed ceilings whilst another room retains part of the original stone walls and floor tiling. Casement windows provide light and warmth. Traditional wooden furniture in the form of wardrobes and round bedside tables, pretty patterned rugs and tall mirrors all combine to provide a welcoming and hospitable ambience. One room has a fireplace, and the individual decor varies from room to room. Bath and shower rooms again merge traditional style and elegance and offer a mixture of attractive wall tiling with intricate neutral or colourful mosaic tiling in the shower cabinets and around basins. There is a traditional, oval, freestanding bathtub in the bathroom, and varying styles of mirrors above basins. Offering comfortable and homely yet elegant accommodation, and with its proximity to the beauty and tradition of Provence, this property is the ideal holiday choice for families or small groups of friends wishing to spend time enjoying a special holiday together in the sun whilst at the same time being able to take advantage of the many sightseeing and discovery opportunities in the area. What an incredible property, everything you could hope from a Provencal property and more. It is kitted out beautifully, the interiors are stunning, beds super comfortable, clean as a whistle, gorgeous outdoor area with everything you could possibly wish for. fontvielle is utterly charming and so local which was a huge plus for us as we’d rather avoid rhe more touristy areas. We recently enjoyed an amazing two-week family stay at this stunning house! The spacious and beautifully decorated living areas immediately made us feel at home. The bedrooms were cool and comfortable, ensuring restful nights. The local area was fantastic, made even more convenient with a car. Our morning ritual included a quick three-minute drive to the bakery for freshly baked pastries. Our days centered around the exceptional pool area, with well-maintained cleanliness every Saturday. The cleaning staff and gardener's regular visits ensured a worry-free vacation. Galia, our host, arranged pre-arrival groceries and gave us a personal tour. James, the owner, went above and beyond, even driving three hours to help us operate the oven and giving us many suggestions on attractions tailored to our 14 and 11-year-olds, He even treated us to a visit to Les Beaux, a local beauty spot. Acting on his recommendation, we embarked on a kayaking adventure just 50 minutes from the house. It was breathtakingly beautiful, we all had a fabulous day out and created memories that we’ll treasure forever. Dining and shopping options were plentiful, with English-speaking locals enhancing the experience. The superb weather, staying consistently above 30 degrees celsius, offered a delightful escape from English humidity. In summary, this house exceeded all expectations, offering an extraordinary and luxurious getaway. We wholeheartedly recommend it and are already dreaming of our next visit! ##### Jade F. Arrivée Samedi 16h00, Visite extrêmement rapide des lieux, explication sommaire de l'utilisation des locaux et de ses accessoires, "d'après les anciens locataires, la cuisinière ne fonctionna plus, mais je pense qu'ils ne savent pas s'en servir...", une des phrases de la conciergerie, puis elle s'esquive... Dimanche matin nous découvrons une piscine non nettoyée, avec une eau trouble, nous contactons cette conciergerie et là plus personne jusqu'à la fin de semaine... piscine impraticable et verte de vase. 38° sans piscine ! Nous avons eu plusieurs problème que j'ai réglé en bricolant un peu (Vive les vacances !!). Conclusion : superbe demeure, mais service ZERO... We have found that this house works very well indeed for us. As well as the comfortable bedrooms (with some of the best beds that we have seen in a rental house) there are extensive communal areas- there is even a separate TV/ playroom for the kids. Everything is well maintained and of a high standard. The outside areas are good with a pleasant pool and outdoor seating area. The layout means that even when you are messing around in the kitchen you can still keep an eye on the pool. I can wholeheartedly recommend this house and the area that it sits within. James, le proprietaire est tres sympa et toujours pret a vous aider. Son livre d'acceuil est remplie de bonnes informations concernant la maison et les environs pour visiter. Cote cuisine et bbq: ustensiles et gadgets a volonte!! Jan 11, 2019 #### Truly beautiful and luxurious property We had a fantastic stay at this gorgeous property. The house has been renovated to a very high standard whilst keeping its original charm, beds are large and exceptionally comfortable, lovely big baths and powerful showers. The garden is beautiful, roses and lavender, with a dining and lounge area shaded under a tree plus a great pool. Aug 19, 2018 #### Beautiful house in a delightful area First impressions were of a beautifully renovated Provencal Mas set in immaculate landscaped grounds with a lovely pool. We were met on arrival and given a tour of the property, which confirmed that no expense had been spared in creating a tasteful and luxurious home. The beds were huge and comfortable with fine linen bedding and the three upstairs bathrooms were lovely. Air conditioning in the bedrooms was a welcome luxury as daytime temperatures were above 30 c. The kitchen was beautifully and simply styled whilst fully equipped with everything required for creating proper meals , although more time was spent on the terrace outside utilising the high-quality barbecue. There was a huge and comfortable living room (with TV with English and French channels) that remained cool due to the traditional thick stone walls. The garden was beautiful and quiet with two separate eating areas. The pool was lovely, with an electric cover and very comfortable loungers. Fontvieille (15 min walk / 2 min car - parking free and straightforward) is a traditional stone Provencal town with charming restaurants and good shopping for basics plus twice weekly market. The property comes with comprehensive welcome pack including details of local sights. We particularly enjoyed the Chateau Des Baux (fortified castle plus amazing cave art show - 15 mins), kayaking down the Sorgues river (40 mins) and a trip to the Camargue and coast (45 mins) to see wild horses and flamingos. Overall a fantastic holiday in a beautiful area enhanced by the outstanding accommodation. Highly recommended! ##### Miles F.
