This charming and immaculate home offers an open floor plan, gorgeous kitchen and a stone fireplace. Large windows in every room help you enjoy the peaceful and private wooded setting, on almost an acre of land. Ample decking and porch space provide the perfect setting for enjoying the great outdoors, with a gas grill for entertainment, a fire-pit, and a spacious hot tub for relaxing. If you're coming to the mountains to “get away from it all” and commune with nature, this is the perfect spot. The community features a scenic creek stocked with fish and a disc golf course. When you're ready for sight-seeing, entertainment and more of the pleasures of “civilization,” you're also in a great location for zipping over to West Jefferson, Boone or Blowing Rock. You're only 2 minutes from the Mountain Aire golf course and about 12 minutes from all that West Jefferson has to offer. Stepping inside Among the Laurels you'll find a roomy open floor plan with high beamed ceilings and a broad stone fireplace. The modern kitchen is fully-equipped – everything you need to make yourself at home and serve up the perfect meal. A satellite TV and the master bedroom are conveniently located on this main level, as is the laundry room, with a washer and dryer. The second floor loft offers a separate entertainment area as well as a sleeper couch for children and guests. This is really the perfect area for the kids, with a foosball table, second TV and DVD player, as well as a second private bedroom now with king size bed and full bathroom. When you're ready for a great family vacation in the mountains, or a quiet, romantic get-away for you and your honey, Among the Laurels is waiting for you! Explore The High Country Among the Laurels is conveniently located in Fleetwood, NC, just a couple miles from West Jefferson, in the heart of the High Country. From here you can easily explore and enjoy a huge variety of attractions and outdoor recreation. Drive on down the road a couple more miles and you'll be in the quaint town of West Jefferson. This is small-town Americana at its finest – an attraction in itself, with a wide assortment of restaurants and terrific shopping, including antique stores, art galleries and wine tasting. Explore all of Main Street, and you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. Here you'll find the famous Ashe Co. Cheese Factory, where you can watch cheese being made. The cabin was perfectly located for this. Just a quick, easy drive to both areas.The cabin itself was cute, clean and cozy and the hot tub was truly relaxing. My only suggestion for improvement is that ice melt be available on the porch along with the snow shovels and that anyone going when there is snow or ice on the ground will need 4-wheel drive to safely reach the ground ##### Julie W. We enjoyed eating every meal on the back deck and the hot tub was relaxing and welcome! Pam, the property manager, was friendly and great to work with. Overall, it was a nice place to get away. For the caveats (least to greatest): It was darker inside than the photos show, even on a sunny day with the shades up (just a surprising observation). The gas fireplace seemed to be leaking (we could smell the gas and turned it off). The dryer gave off piercing squeaks as it ran. We learned to leave when we were trying to dry clothes. We reported these issues (as well as a previously broken dining room chair). No one came to address them despite the implication that someone would. The internet wifi was spotty and seldom reached even to the back deck. The biggest caveat, and why we won't stay there again, was the "king" master bed. It looked like two twin size beds pressed together w/ a king mattress topper--which would have been fine. But it was the noise...it squeaked--loudly--with every movement (we did not report this). If you're a light sleeper, this bed will likely keep you up. Conversely, the downstairs bed was very comfortable and quiet, having a memory foam mattress. While I could be mistaken, the bed looked smaller than a queen (having slept on a queen for 35 years, this bed felt smaller). All in all, a great place to go and enjoy. Our family enjoyed the cozy cabin and had fooseball tournaments. The hot tub was a relaxing way to both start and end the day! ##### Mark S. The only thing we could even complain about was some confusion on the tv. It could have been us, but we weren’t able to get it to work. (We couldn’t get Roku to work.)
