With nature and wildlife a focal point in the home, and trees, flowers, and grapevines above the creek at the bottom of the property, you can choose to walk the area - or enjoy them via your rocking chair on the 60 foot porch that is remIniscent of the lodges out West. Creek at bottom of hill can be accessed. Blue Ridge Parkway is approximately 1 mile via Phillips Gap access. New River for canoeing/kayaking is down 1 mile on Pine Swamp, then Conley Cheek Road. The home was pristine when we arrived and truly had a stocked kitchen so that we were able to prepare full meals easily! The drive up to the house is beautiful and the roads were in great shape and clear. The location of the home was great for us to visit several towns like Boone, Banner Elk, West Jefferson, Elk River, Valle Crucis and so many more! I have to say that the entire family thought the trash compactor was so cool! Spring Lodge fit the bill perfectly! Richard gave us great directions, so that we were at Sky Retreat in 8 minutes. The house was warm and cozy, with a fantastic kitchen! The driveway is a bit tricky to get in and out of, wish it were more flat. And it would have been nice to have use of the garage, as weather was very rainy when we arrived. But overall a very nice property with lovely owners. Richard and Pat responded to my questions right away which was terrific. It is a good location for Sky Retreat, and only 25 minutes from Boone. My only regret was that we really didn’t get to spend any time there, as we were at the venue most of the time. We would love to return during the fall! ##### Christine N. The location worked great for us and we enjoyed exploring the creek nearby. The owners provided lots of information like driving directions, and area attractions/food. We didn't have a ton of spare time due to wedding commitments, but I think it would be a good balance of relaxation and things to do for all ages. You'll need to be (or get!) comfortable driving on narrow, winding mountain roads. The home was equipped with all kitchen amenities we could have needed, towels for each guest, wifi and fire tv. Note as the listing states, you do need to dispose of your own trash (not sure if it was just because we were 3+ nights, or if everyone must). The drop-off sites were all 15-20 minutes away, and we found the one we went to was closed on Sunday. Just something to be aware of. ##### Lauren L. But, I live in Sw Florida where everything is flat so, anything beyond that seemed extreme. Would recommend some stepping stones to get to the front entry where the code box is.
