We pride ourselves in providing that for you. We have been offering another vacation rental on our property, called A Place at James Ranch (vrbo listing number 335610) for the last 10 years, during which time we have providing people with an outstanding stay (we have over 225 five star reviews). This cabin will be no different \~ we look forward to hosting you. Stay in one of the original dwellings built in the late 1800s in the gorgeous Animas Valley while enjoying all the conveniences of modern living. This quaint cabin is surround by mature trees, a year round babbling brook (including stairs to the small waterfall if you want to recharge with a cold plung ), has views of the Hermosa red cliffs, and borders the James Ranch Tree Farm. The location is perfect: centrally located between the incredibly fun town of Durango (20 min drive) and the insanely beautiful San Juan mountains to the north - which includes everything Purgatory Resort offers both in winter and summer). You will experience the perfect vacation day soaking up the morning sun while sipping your tea or coffee on the porch, reading your book by the stream in the shade of an old apricot tree, or playing cards while enjoying the outdoor patio in the warm afternoon sun \~ all the while listening to the diverse varieties of birds that live in the surrounding trees. Inside the cabin, you will sleep in one of the most comfortable beds you have ever experienced while traveling, look out the windows at the iconic Hermosa red cliffs, all the while listening to the calming sounds of the nearby stream. When standing at the kitchen sink, you will experience views of the Animas Valley. We are very purposeful about providing organic fibers for all our linens and towels. You will feel extremely pampered with the luxurious organic cotton sheets and a feather comforter. We only use non-toxic cleaning agents/detergents/dishwashing soaps. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you will need to prepare homecooked meals, or simply boil some water to enjoy coffee or tea to enjoy while sitting on the porch in the morning sun. The host was a great communicator. The cabin was spotless and very well equipped. 10 minutes from town, an easy drive. A couple of minutes from great burgers at James Ranch. Hope it was ok to eat the apples on the tree just outside the front door because we had several!The cabin is rustic on the outside and quite modern inside. Minimal tchotchkes but lots of electrical outlets and good WiFi. One of the nicest places we’ve found on VRBO. Highly recommended. ##### John B. Being near to the James Ranch Market & Grill, I was able to do my meal shopping with local and regenerative products and enjoy a burger at the grill (try the baconaise dip with your fries - yum!) Having also recently stayed at another Vrbo with an out-of-state property manager, I will say that this cabin \*felt\* like home and that it was being cared for by its owners as they would care for their own homes. We even slept with the front screen door open and loved every peaceful minute. The host is quick to respond and is close by if any last minute details are needed. Would highly recommend this unique cabin for a quiet and peaceful getaway. It is newly renovated with new appliances and farm house accents. We cooked a few meals in the kitchen and found everything we needed. Farm fresh eggs and wonderful unique tea were a nice treat. The cabin is secluded from the world with great views of the mountains and a babbling brook that provided a serene feeling of peace for our time there. We would definitely recommend this get away for any season. A visit to the James Ranch restaurant and Marketplace just down the road is another great experience with cozy atmosphere and delicious food. ##### Kirsten D. It was great to get away and enjoy the nature all around me. The cottage was clean, cozy and had a well appointed kitchen. There was great WIFI, plenty of hot water and a very comfortable bed. Our time spent there was so relaxing and peaceful. The calming sound of the running stream, the joyful chirping of the birds, the glorious sunrise/sunset on the majestic mountains, and the faint melodies of the trains were a blessing to experience. Sitting on the porch sipping hot tea and coffee made the worries of the world all melt away. Everything one would need is readily available. The Host is an absolute gem. She was exceptionally gracious and helpful during our entire stay and made certain our visit was a memorable one. Also, be sure to take a moment to visit their nearby Grill and Market as part of your adventure. Each day we awoke (and fell asleep) to the rushing brook right outside the cabin door. It was like listening to the rain. The cabin was well stocked, incredibly comfortable, and private.
