![One of the top attractions in Salta is to take the tren a las nubes (the train to the clouds). In the past, this was a train trip of 217 km (8 hours) starting in Salta and ending in the viaduct Polvorilla near San Antonio de los Cobres pictured here.

Nowadays, only a reduced trip is possible: one from San Antonio de los Cobres till the viaduct. You can opt to either reach San Antonio yourself or take the organized trip from Salta which will take you by bus to the train station in San Antonio de los Cobres.

The train only functions a few times a week and leaves from the station around noon.

An alternative to taking the train is to drive by car to the viaduct, which is what I did.
