One of the world’s most densely populated urban hubs, the Pearl River Delta is also full of cultural treasures and intriguing institutions. Defined as a megalopolis, the vast behemoth contains many busy and dynamic cities. Gaze up at the skyscrapers of the modern city centers and learn about the region’s history from varied museums.

Visit the province’s capital city of Guangzhou, an economical and cultural hub. Dating back thousands of years, the city played a major part in the Maritime Silk Road. Experience Cantonese culture in this liberal and progressive city. Tour the traditional Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family and the modern Canton Tower.

Relax around the gardens, peaks and valleys of enormous Bai Yun Shan National Park. Ride the Bai Yun Cable Way to this mountainous area and enjoy excellent views of Guangzhou.

Travel to the city of Dongguan, known for its garment trade. Admire the exhibits of the Dongguan Science and Technology Museum and climb the elegant staircases to the temple of Chang’an Park.

For a change of scenery, arrive at the port city of Shunde, famous for its stunning waterways. Head south to Zhuhai, where you can sunbathe between the palm trees of Zhuhai Beach.

Note that the Pearl River Delta is also known as the Zhujiang Delta or Zhusanjiao. It experiences heavy rain during monsoon season, from April to September.

The area comprises the low terrain enclosing the mouth of the Pearl River, as it flows into the South China Sea. It is in the Guangdong province on the southern coast of China.
