Very charming small hotel

The room was really quite lovely and for me felt like home. The public areas are also very attractive. However, there were a couple of problems. First, we arrived by car and you absolutely cannot park in front or anywhere near the hotel, even for a few moments to unload your luggage. Second, upon check out we were surprised to learn that we were being charged an extra and substantial sum for breakfast. Ever other hotel we had stayed in during our trip to Sweden and Denmark had included the buffet breakfast. No advance notice of this was ever give to us, either before arrival or at check in. Normally, if breakfast is an extra charge there will be something, in the dining room or your room explaining this and informing you what the charge will be, but here absolutely nothing, so be forewarned.

Great hotel

We've just returned from a fantastic weekend at this hotel. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in and the staff were really friendly. We'll definitely look to stay here again.

Meget godt hotel

Du blir møtt med et smil og forlater hotellet med et smil - hyggelig og serviceinnstilt betjening i et hotel hvor du får mer enn du betaler for. Spør om balkong hvis du ønsker det, og vær obs på at noen rom har badekar. Et av de mest personlige hotel jeg har bodd på.

Nice hotel

Pricey for Size of Room and Location

Booked this room on return from a Cruise after extensive research.We had booked a Superior Room w/o breakfast. We arrived early and my boyfried was ill so they were accomodating by offering a Standard Room with Breakfast so that we could get in asap. The room was smaller than our stateroom on the ship and was facing the street and quite noisy. The breakfast was nice, though probably not worth 125DKK (approx $23 US). I recommend that a Superior Room be booked. The staff was cordial,not unusally friendly as other reviews have mentioned. The neighborhood is fine,certainly less touristy than central Copenhagen. I made the 15 min walk several times,but a bus and cabs are right outside the door. We stayed at the Carlton Guldsmeden before the cruise and it was more reasonably priced and two blocks closer to downtown. Overall it was an OK hotel in an OK European city

Bertrams- fantastic

We have just spent a memorable week staying at Bertrams for the World Outgames. The 'green'/organic philosophy of the hotel was refreshing. We had one of the lovely suites off the courtyard- which I would thouroughly recommend. The hotel was full with a mix of travellers and fellow competitors. We found that the staff were outstanding and couldn't do enough for us. The breakfasts were devine- another reviewer said they were expensive- eveything is in Denmark! We would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Veldig hyggelig betjening! Men kjempeminus for badet spesielt. Kaldt og det blir vått overalt når man dusjer. De dumme skjellene på himmelsenga skrangler og rister når man skal "kose seg" Anbefales ikke for par som er glad i elskov selv om sengen er god.....

Definitely recommend this small organic hotel

Arriving at this modest hotel at 1am (as a result of aircraft delays) to find it locked up with just a phone number to call was not ideal, however after two phone calls (one for the entry code, another to uncover where our key had been left) we found our way to our incredibly comfortable bed. The room was small but adequate for a weekend stay. Breakfast was fantastic - a great selection of organic delights, although like everything in Copenhagen, not cheap! Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is on a main road (some noise but not terrible) around 10 - 15 mins walk to the main shopping/dining area. Would definitely recommend for a weekend visit.

A little gem

This was a small, comfortable hotel full of character. The taxi driver was a little confused finding it as it's fascia promotes Hotel Guldsmelden (Danish for Goldsmith) rather than Bertrams.Friendly staff welcomed us with a nice cold drink from the bar.It's a fair walk from the tourist attractions as we discovered, so get the staff to explain the excellent bus service.No evening meal available, but pleasant breakfast in the cafe with a wide choice of organic produce.

Comfort, convenience, and local flavor -a value package

Clean comfortable rooms, nice location, friendly and helpful staff -couldn't ask for much more. Walking distance to Tivoli in one direction and nice park and zoo in the opposite direction. Right at bus stop if you prefer to ride. Didn't have a car, so I can't comment on parking. Restaurant a little pricey for breakfast - but not out of line for Copenhagen. Only issue - elevator starts half floor up from lobby and stops half floor up (or down) from rooms. Good exercise - hauling suitcases up stairs, I guess!

Avoid the top floor and street side in summer.

Stayed here in early July. Got a standard room on the top floor on the street side of the hotel. It was hot for Copenhagen and the hotel does not have air. The room we had was in a dormer space. The room baked during the day and did not cool much until a couple of hours before dawn. Fan in the room did not help much. Opened the windows which helped some but subjected us to significant street noise. Didn't help that the window was above a bus stop. I'd still recommend the hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Value is good. Location is good, a short walk to the train station. Pizza place up the road was good for Denmark and there's a take out Chinese place a bit further up the block which was also very good. We saved some $$$ bringing back food and eating in the nice little courtyard garden on the other side of the hotel. Tables are set up there and the staff will bring you tableware. Recommend a room on the backside of the hotel. Don't know if the rooms back there were any cooler but I'm sure they are quieter. Be sure to rent a bike from either the hotel or the bike place near the train station. It was a lot of fun and a great way to see the city.

Terrific

Wonderful hotel with great staff and amenities for those who like to travel European style. The "suite" is a room divided with a flat screen tv and couch as well as a little balcony overlooking the courtyard. Be sure to book a fan (no a.c.). If u want 2 b in the center of things, it's a little far but we enjoyed the walk. Recommended!

Fantastic Hotel

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Lovely organic beers and drinks, the welcome drink on the house was a nice touch. The courtyard is beautiful, our room was accessed from here but it was open to all - a great place to enjoy breakfast, and a few glasses of wine in the sunshine after a hard days sightseeing! Free wifi was also a bonus. The hotel is also situated in a great part of town with some good bars and restaurants on hand but within easy reach of all parts of the city using the local transport.

A clean happy place to stay

I stayed at Guldsmeden for 3 nights on a business trip. On arrival I was very impressed by the quality of the place. It has a certain spa feel about it, very organic and planet friendly in every respect. The reception was great - after I'd unpacked I was invited down for a cold beer and told a little about the local area. The room was bright and airy, the bed comfortable, and the organic breakfast not to be missed. Location-wise, the hotel is located on one of the main raods into Copenhagen center - so walk ten minutes down the road and you're right bang in the middle. There's also a bus stop outsite if you need it. Overall - a very enjoyable stay.

Fabulous Little Piece of Heaven

The hotel was situated in a perfect location, close to the train station, the Tivoli, shopping, etc. I was welcomed by friendly hotel staff and given my key promptly at check-in. The room was gorgeous! What a little piece of heaven. I actually stayed an extra night (but a word of advice: do not book at the front desk, expedia's prices are half what she quoted me!) The breakfast was extra, however they had a nice selection of organic foods and beverages, which was worth the price. All in all, I would recommend this hotel and stay again!

Most comfortable bed - ever

We stayed in this hotel 4 June 2009, the room was comfortable, bed was amazing, most comfortable bed in a hotel we have ever stayed in. Disappointed only continental breakfast - we thought they did an organic 'english' breakfast. But coffee and crossaints all organic, would recommend

Good value for your money

Very nice boutique hotel, staff were very accommodating when we arrived early in the morning on both of our stays, before and after a cruise. We were given rooms immediately. Rooms were very attractive and the beds comfortable., The bathroom was small but who needs a big bathroom when you are on vacation. There is a bus that stops at the front door of the hotel that will take you to all main attractions and the hotel is a 15 minute walk from the central train station,

Lovely, inviting, modest hotel

The food was delicious. The staff courteous, helpful and friendly. The hotel is definitely NOT fancy or ostentatious. Instead, it is hip, comfortable, clean and bright. I'll stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Copenhagen.

Stay again in a heatbeat

This hotel is older and definitely quaint. However, it has all the modern amenities including a comfortable bed and wifi in the room. The staff were absolutely wonderful as was the food in the dining room. Another plus is a laundromat less than one block away. If we ever get to go back to Copenhagen, this is definitely the hotel we will stay in.
