Everybody needs to get away from the daily hustle once in a while. Spend time alone or with family or friends. Spend some time relaxing, curl up with a good book or enjoy hiking, bird watching, exploring or hunting. We are located in the Appalachian Foothills of Southern Ohio. Our 70 acre property offers high rock cliffs, deep gorges, caves, waterfalls (depends on rainfall), all kinds of nature, birds and wildlife visible from two miles of clearly marked, scenic trails, available all year.
We have a totally refurbished cabin known as Caretaker’s Cottage. Updated in 2021 with cozy, comfortable features and relaxation in mind, Caretaker’s Cottage displays rustic charm with all the modern conveniences. The barn wood, used as accent walls, was repurposed from an old barn on our property.
Accommodations include two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, adjustable reading lamps, convenient outlets for phones & chargers and a full "Jack & Jill" bathroom (shower, sink, toilet). If you forget something, we keep a small supply of toiletries on hand.
The living area provides comfortable seating and is open to the nicely equipped, full kitchen with peninsula that seats four. There's also a smart tv, a ton of family friendly DVDs and a good selection of books and board games.
An ample supply of fresh, comfy linens, towels and extra blankets always on hand. All dishes, silverware, pots, pans, blender, coffee pot, coffee & filters are also provided. Our Keurig coffee maker is a dual feature machine, allowing for drip coffee or K-pods. You will need to bring your own pods.
You'll have the whole cottage to yourself. Enjoy evenings on the large, private, paver patio with fire pit and 4 chairs. The wood, fire starters and a lighter all furnished. Get up a game of Cornhole or Hookey. Cook your meals on our Blackstone grill. How about an invigorating experience in the outdoor shower. See if you can identify all the different types of birds at the feeders. Get away from the light pollution of the big city. We think you can see all of heaven from Liberty Retreat.
The information provided by Expedia, under the "About the Area", is inaccurate. VRBO is working to get it updated. We are located six (6) miles north of Beaver, OH, on the Pike County - Jackson County Line. Just thirty-eight (38) miles to the Hocking Hills Visitor Center & Old Man's Cave. We are surrounded by thirteen other State Parks and Wildlife Areas, all within 30 miles. Plenty of outdoor activities nearby. There's a small lake across the road and two more nearby, Lake Katherine & Hammertown Lake. Check out additional comments under Host "What makes our property unique" for more information, accurate mileage & things to see & do. We also have a guest book at the cottage that provides our favorite places to eat, events, activities, etc.
Hunters- We offer in season archery hunting on our 70 private acres, as well as easy access to the Liberty Wildlife Area with 146 acres of untamed woodland, which sits adjacent to our property. There is no additional cost to hunt at Liberty Retreat, however there are some rules to follow & a couple documents you must sign, so we will do in person check in for all hunters. For full details, send us an inquiry. We'll respond shortly.
