Internally the cottage has a fresh, loved and romantic feel. This stone cottage has 3 bedrooms (all of which can be double or twin) and 3 bathrooms. The traditional stone and character loggia of the outside blend perfectly with the countryside, and provide a wonderful contrast to the fresh light and up to date interior, which offers all brand new modern conveniences, with some antique and restored furniture ensuring a sense of character is retained. There are also beamed ceilings on the top floor giving a sense of romance. The house sleeps 6 in bedrooms, but can easily sleep 8 as there are a further 2 single beds on the spacious first floor landing which also has a window. One of the single beds is made up as a day bed so the space can act as an additional relaxing area, and there is also a desk for those that need to catch up on some work when away. The gardens are vast and host a private 10M x 5M pool, with sunbathing area and gazebo, as well as a bocce (bowls court) for fun tournaments. Al fresco dining is catered for with a wonderful covered loggia offering shade and the most stunning views of the Apuane Mountains. Here there is also a wood oven for you to perfect your pizza and bread making! This property is in the depths of the countryside, creating a purely peaceful holiday, yet just a short drive to the local village and all amenities including bars and restaurants. Fuller details: Living areas: Enter cottage into a spacious hallway from where you access a comfortable living room, with open fireplace and door to garden. TV and DVD player Also off the hallway is a brand new kitchen/diner with oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and dining table. Door to garden. Room with washing machine Ground floor shower room Sleeping and bathing: 3 double bedrooms all of which can be converted to twins. One of the bedrooms has a delightful Juliet balcony from where you can enjoy the view whilst having your morning coffee in bed, and the other two, on the top level , all bedrooms have beamed ceilings. Large landing area on the top level which can house twin beds to sleep an additional 2 guests. This spacious area can also be used as a further relaxing area, or a workspace. 2 Shower rooms - all 3 pristine modern shower rooms have showers, WC.s bidets and wash basins. A little about the area The property is situated in a peaceful rural location with stunning open views, yet within walking distance cross country to the local town which is also a short drive away of all facilities,, where there are a couple of good restaurants, basic shops, bank, bars and the most wonderful deli for home made takeaway hot and cold food that you can take back for the evening. There are various good restaurants providing fresh local home cooked traditional food within a short drive, as well as local one off shops, delicatessens, gelaterias and supermarkets. For relaxing afternoons out, there are lots of pretty villages to explore in the immediately locality, one of which is Castiglione itself which is a fully walled village commanding outstanding views over the Apuane mountains. Many of these villages have festas in the summer with food, drink and dancing. Situated only a short drive from the National Park of Orrecchiella, the location is ideal for walking, hiking, horseriding, mountain biking and picnicking, surrounded by views of the seemingly endless mountains, and local chestnut woodland. For those who enjoy the outdoor life there is also a local tree climbing/zip wiring park, with courses adapted for all age groups, from the very young to adults. There are local adventure parks where one can try water canyoning, rock climbing, swimming in rock pools, canoeing etc and there is the Grotta del Vento, a massive cave system in the mountains which is a good day out. There is an ancient fortress to visit with jaw dropping views, and interactive displays for children including a chance to try a little archery. For when a townie day beckons, the local market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is only just over 10 minute drive. Here there are bars, restaurants, a famous Thursday morning market, old castle walls, the river Serchio and local train station. The beautiful mediaeval town of Barga with its cobbled streets, great architecture, cathedral and great views is only a 25 minute drive. Barga is famous for its art and music, and here one can often enjoy free music, evening markets, dancing, and sometimes even impromptu entertainment from Paolo Nutini! Becoming well known for its restaurants too, Barga has plenty of places to eat. Lucca, the fully walled Mediaeval City and the Capital of the Region is only an hours drive and one can spend the day cycling or meandering along its ample walls; people watching in both the grand and tiny piazzas with prosecco, coffee or ice cream; designer shopping; climbing towers, visiting some of its 99 churches or just taking in the atmosphere. If you like opera, there is a recital every evening before dinner in a unique church setting. The traditional Tuscan sites of Pisa and Florence are easily do-able in a day trip as are the beaches of Forte dei Marmi or Viareggio. Many guests also visit the Cinque Terre... In summary, the accommodation is situated in a very peaceful location, yet not too isolated and well placed to explore the area - both mountains and towns/cities. Paolo der Hausbesitzer war sehr zuvorkommend und wir hatten einen tollen Pizzaabend mit ihm und seinem Bruder, super leckere Pizza!!!Kleiner Abzug eigentlich nur wegen der Hinfahrt zum Haus (tiefere Autos eher schwer da sehr holprig) bisschen abgelegen und jetzt bei hohen Temperaturen sehr heiß in den Zimmern. Fliegengitter an allen Fenstern in den Schlafzimmern aber vorallem wäre super da es abends schon abkühlt und man so besser die Fenster offen lassen könnte. Supermärkte sind mit dem Auto auch schnell erreichbar. Alles war sehr sauber und gepflegt. Innen wie Außen. Der Vermieter sehr nett und immer erreichbar. The villa is spacious, very clean, relaxing, and has quite a few activities to do on the property. The views overlooking the property were fantastic and the pool was great. There's also a few small football goals, darts, bocce, volleyball, and more. Communication with the owner was very good as well whenever we needed him and definitely recommend going to Il Pozzo for dinner in town one night. We couldn't walk into town unfortunately as the bridge built by the owners across the river had been taken away by the rain, but it's only a 10 minute drive. A few things to consider for people looking to stay here: - Do NOT use Google Maps go to the latitude/longitude coordinates given by Vrbo to get to the property. This leads to a separate private property and the owners messaged us a meeting point at the entrance point of the track to take us to the property. - The off road track to the villa (\~700 meters) can be very bumpy and slippery after rain. ##### Anthony D. Gute Matratzen, schöne neue Bäder, hoher Standard, traumhafte Aussicht. Der Pool war sauber, gut gepflegt und wurde täglich genutzt. Paolo war ein klasse Gastgeber, der immer erreichbar war und mit Rat und Tat zur Seite stand. Sein Bruder Luca machte für uns die beste Pizza Italiens. Volledige rust met enkel prachtige natuur om je heen. De eigenaar wacht je bij aankomst op aan de oprijlaan. Cadeautjes voor de honden, drank en versnaperingen, cadeautjes voor in het zwembad, de Belgische vlag zijn allemaal dingen die je heel welkom doen voelen. Wij hebben NIETS gemist in het huisje, alles is heel mooi en verzorgd. Het zwembad en de tuin met een volleybalnet, voetbalveld, darts en petanquebaan waren toffe activiteiten voor tussendoor. De pizza-avond die door de eigenaar Paolo samen met zijn zoon en schoonbroer verzorgd werd, was subliem. In een zeer ontspannen sfeer genoten we van heerlijke pizza´s à volonté. Een echte aanrader. Supermarkten, restaurants zijn heel dichtbij. We zullen het prachtige huis en de omgeving zeker missen. Paulo (the owner) could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The local town is a short ten minute walk through the woods where there are options for eating, drinking and shopping. We had an electric car (EV) and were pleased to find charging options within walking distance. Thanks to Paulo and family for facilitating such a lovely two week stay. ##### Andrew C. The house is situated in the perfect place. It is a very quiet place a few autominutes away from the road in the middle of the beautiful Tuscan nature. But yet also very close to the town, shops and restaurants. You can walk through the forest, which is an easy but beautiful walk! The property is spacious with large bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchenarea and livingroom. All very nice and very wel cleaned! The garden is huge, excellent for kids to play. Besides the great pool they enjoyed tabletennis, darts, football, volleyball and jeu de boules! We loved the pizza night that the owner organised together with his son and brother in law. All together we ate the best pizza's that they made for us in the pizzaoven outside. Thanks once again Paolo, Lorenzo and Lucca! Es ist ruhig und abgelegen, dies sorgt für pure Entspannung. Das Haus ist sehr gut eingerichtet und sehr sauber. Das Grundstück ist riesig, ein sehr schöner Pool ist vorhanden. Auch Outdoor Aktivitäten gab es genügend. Der Pizzaabend mit Paolo und Luca war super. Die Pizza war total lecker, die beste Pizza, die wir im Urlaub gegessen haben. No neighbours around, a lot of salamanders, very nice swimming pool and pefrect mountain view is what comes to mind at first. Rooms and bathrooms are nice and clean, in the kitchen there is everything you need to cook. You can go shopping in Coop that in nearby or in Conad Gallicano which is like 15min drive. Paolo is very helpful, he is always checking if all is ok and if you need some help or so. Pizza night organized by him and his family was a great experience, highlighted by his son Lorenzo stories about different types of pizzas. I strongly recommend this place if you are looking for some peaceful and quite place to relax ##### Michal G. The villa was well thought out and was decorated beautifully. The beds were really comfortable, 3 large bedrooms and a mezzanine. It was well organised and spotless! There was so much kitchen equipment which made it easy to cook. The pool was lovely and we had access to a BBQ, covered area, pizza oven, boules court, football and volleyball court. There were lots of walks and villages to visit and a supermarket nearby. Paola came round one evening and cooked us pizza. It was a fun night getting to know them and great pizza, especially the chocolate and banana! They made us so welcome and nothing was to much trouble. We loved it and will be back. ##### diane a. The weather was not very pleasant but the last few days. Anyway, we found time to relax in the house and visited several nice villages in the area. All in all, the place deserves full recommendation. The photos do not do it justice. Nothing bad at all to say about this place. Beautiful farmhouse. Just far enough away for the peace and quiet but in driving distance to some beautiful villages. Also if you follow the footpath to the village you have to go for some homemade bread and next door is somewhere to get a cold beer or a glass of vino. Go to the restaurants that Paolo recommends they are definitely worth a visit. We also did wine tasting at La cantina del vino in Barga which you can get a taxi to with the help of the owner. It’s definitely worth a visit. Paolo the owner is very helpful and friendly and his pizza night is amazing. We could not believe how cheap thing are there. Es sieht in live noch viel schöner als auf den Fotos aus. Die ruhige und abgelegene Lage sorgt für Enstpannung pur. Das Haus ist liebevoll und stilvoll eingerichtet und ist bestens mit sämtlichen Gegenständen, die man im Alltag braucht, ausgerüstet. Das Haus war super sauber, vor allem auch die drei Badezimmer, die sehr groß und modern gestaltet sind, wodurch man sich direkt von Anfang an wohlgefühlt hat. Durch die besondere Lage hat man eine Klimaanlage an heißen Tagen nicht vermisst, da es abends/nachts ausreichend abkühlt. Das Grundstück ist sehr gepflegt und großzügig dimensioniert. Neben dem super großen und sauberen Pool bietet das Haus aber auch viel Platz für weitere Outdoor-Aktivitäten, wie z.b. Fussball, Tischtennis und Bocca. Hier sind ebenfalls alle notwendigen Gegenstände, wie Tore, eine Tischtennisplatte oder sogar eine Boccabahn vorhanden. Ein besonderes Highlight war für uns der gemeinsame Pizzaabend mit dem Eigentümer Paolo und seiner Familie. Hier wurde uns die beste Pizza des ganzen Urlaubs geboten. Paolo und seine Familie waren super und stets für einen da Wir hatten einen wundervollen und erholsamen Urlaub und können dieses Ferienhaus und die super Betreuung durch den Besitzers nur weiterempfehlen. Den vorherigen Bewertungen. können wir uns nur anschließen, würde es 6 Sterne geben, würden wir auch diese vergeben. Grazie mille Paolo e famiglia per il meraviglioso soggiorno! ##### Linda E.
