The hosts were absolutely amazing. The property was well kept, very clean and we felt safe. We had an upstairs and downstairs bathroom with constant hot water. Breakfast was wonderful.
We were really happy and would love to return.
Lovely comfy stylish Guest house that has everything anyone needs for a short stay. Attention to every little detail. Tasty breakfast. Excellent services overall. I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely be back again.

I've been traveling the globe for most of my life and this was the first time I'd encountered such intolerance for brown skin. I checked in at dusk and noticed the disdain by the owner, but dismissed it thinking that perhaps it was my imagination. Left my bags in the downstairs livingroom of the 2-story suite that I'd booked with them, and headed, famished to a nearby 5-star restaurant for dinner. I returned from my meal, a bit shaken. The streets were deserted and gangsters were driving up to my Audi to survey me and my car's contents, and I suddenly knew why the restaurant and guesthouse premises were all securely locked behind tall gates and was nervous about making it back to the guesthouse safely.
Once back inside my suite, I called the owner to ask if he could send someone to help me find the light switch, he made several xenophobic remarks like "This is why I don't rent to people from the third world" and he refused to assist me. Then, he asked me to leave. I informed him that I'd already booked the hotel for a second night and had nowhere else to stay, he replied "No. You're not staying here. You're leaving." I had to find another hotel late at night & find my way back through those deserted streets where gun shots plainly rang out. I've traveled the world and never ever experienced that kind of prejudice! I was shocked and shaken by it. Surprise, surprise.. I googled "southern cross symbol" and it turns out that it's a popular white-spremacist symbol.
Nice guesthouse and location, but not co operative
We booked accommodation for one of our company guests here, because this guesthouse is ideally situated on the way to our new office. In future I would have booked here quite often, because of their location, but unfortunately they are not flexible at all regarding date changes, I feel they were quite rude when we had to cancel one of the nights, and because of this we will no longer use this guesthouse in future for all of our guests.
Thank you for hospitality and 1 night availability
Wanted an overnight stay near a winery that was featuring a special paired dinner. (Did not want to drive too far). The Southern Cross was only a couple of miles away and was exactly what we wanted. We even arrived early so we could use their pool (cool) and shower before the dinner. Everything was great.
gate was locked and no one answered the intercom. called the phone number of the guest house many times and no one responded. in conversation the next day with the proprietor, who was a little terse, stated should have called the mobile number, wat? anyway did not stay at this property, do not know what it was, nor care, who the heck locks the gate at 6pm and does not have security on the property in the evening?
We had a great stay at southern cross! Claudia & Marc were so friendly and welcoming upon our arrival and provided us with good information of where to visit and have our meals. The room decoration was so lovely and we could had see the ocean from our level 2 room. Its such a great place to hang out and spend a couple of days. There is no need to travel out with its alluring pool and chill out area. Strongly recommend anyone to stay there!
Comfortable beds and excellent breakfast. Suggest taking a pair of slippers as the floors are not carpeted and can be cold in winter. Be aware that this guest house CLOSES AT 6PM so even if you have a booking confirmation for the evening and arrive after 6 pm you may not be accommodated
My stay was only for one night, so I was not able to enjoy all of the facilities, however, my room, breakfast and the service was very good. The hosts were also very nice and helpful. They promptly returned to me some valuable items I had forgotten in the safe. My only reason for giving 4 stars is the fact that there is no easy access to Cape Town except by hired or private car. Even though it's about 20-30 mins drive from Cape Town, I couldn't get a taxi and since I did not drive I had to wait around to be collected.
When we arrived we were told we were in the budget room queen bed was two singles pushed together 22" tv was 12" the room looked like converted garage other rooms may have been 5 star our room did not come up to one star curtains only just meet shower drain was blocked no shampoo the host were very friendly tv was poor only German news no sky or bbc I hope the owners will take note it looked a very nice place to stay but this room was not up to standard
We had the Africa room at the Southern Guest house - it was big and had 2 bathrooms! There is a great patio & pool area as well as nice seating areas on the property. The hosts are friendly and helpful!
Excellent hotel with friendly hosts who were very welcoming and made use feel at home. The breakfast was great as well as the rooms which were very spacious and nicely decorated. There was a nice sundeck which overlooked the sea which was a great place to relax.
We had a great stay. Our room was 2 levels with charm and comfort. It was the finish to a 3 week trip. Marc and Claudia were the Best. Their recommendations were a big help. It was a lovely surrounding that was a nice finish to our South African adventure.
Slightly away from the wine estates in Somerset West but easy to find and close to the mall - with a view out to sea from the decking. Well kept and recently renovated this is a summer spot to enjoy but wasn't bad in the pouring rain either! Very good sized room with a huge shower and a wide ranging breakfast there is something for everyone at Southern Cross guesthouse and we would certainly stay again if visiting Somerset West!
A short drive from Cape Town International and greeted by very friendly hosts. The area is very safe and the guest house is a short drive from the Mall. The room was highly appointed and very comfortable. The hosts paid a lot of attention to detail which reflects in the quality of guest house. The breakfast was very healthy and good quality. Would return with the whole family if I get a chance. One of the best guest houses I have stayed in (there have been many).
