We have never been treated with such dismissal by a hotel. From the start, our stay was plagued with issues including cockroaches, poor service, and broken promises tied to Expedia VIP benefits. We were told we had early check-in and special access, neither of which were honored. Despite arriving at 7am, our room wasn’t ready until after 3:30pm, and someone was still cleaning. Karina at the front desk was extremely dismissive and provided poor customer service. At check-in, our phone number was entered incorrectly despite correcting it, resulting in our assigned butler being unable to contact us until the end of day two—another promised service that failed. We also clearly disclosed a severe peanut allergy, yet peanut candy was placed in our room. On day two, our AC stopped working. Housekeeping acknowledged the heat and said it would be addressed, but nothing was done. When we returned at 11pm, the room was nearly 80 degrees. The front desk offered no solution and essentially told us to deal with it. After two hours of arguing, we were finally moved rooms at 1am. The following day, we attempted to speak with management. We were repeatedly told all supervisors were in meetings Eventually, we spoke with a supervisor named Josue, who promised to escalate our concerns to client experience Linda but we never heard back. Calls were ignored until we checked out. Our experience at the Grand Park Royal in Cancún was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles, exceptional service, and an atmosphere that instantly put us into vacation mode. Every staff member we encountered went above and beyond to make us feel cared for, but one person truly made our trip unforgettable: Johan. Johan was, without a doubt, the highlight of our stay. His kindness, attentiveness, and genuine desire to make sure we had the best experience possible stood out every single day. Whether we needed recommendations, help with reservations, or just someone to brighten our morning with great conversation, Johan was always there with the most positive energy. It’s rare to meet someone who not only loves what they do but also makes you feel like a valued guest every step of the way—he absolutely did. The resort itself was beautiful—spotless rooms, breathtaking ocean views, delicious food, and great amenities. But what truly sets Grand Park Royal apart is the level of service, and that’s thanks to incredible people like Johan. If you’re considering a stay here, don’t hesitate. VIP Experience Did Not Match What Was Advertised We booked the VIP package through Expedia, and unfortunately the stay did not meet the standards we expected. The resort itself is pleasant and our upgraded room was nice, but the level of service, especially the assigned VIP butler, was far below what was advertised. Our butler, Yajahira, contacted us several times the first night for minor things, but on the day of our hibachi reservation (when she told us she would walk us there), she did not call or follow up at all. She later claimed she was “waiting at the photo station,” which we had never been shown. Because of this miscommunication, we had to ask staff around the property for directions, arrived a few minutes late, and our seats were given away. When we explained the situation, her response was simply, “It’s not my fault.” We did not meet her in person until that moment, which is not the level of service expected with a VIP booking. Additional issues affected our stay: • A constant sewer smell in the bathroom • Cross-contamination at the breakfast buffet with shared spoons • Very limited snack bar options if you don’t eat beef • The 20% spa discount we were told we had did not apply at checkout • Massage therapist noticed a reaction to the scrub and removed it silently before telling us Overall, the resort has potential, but the VIP experience, communication, and service quality did not match what was promised when booking through Expedia VIP.
