We are delighted that you found your way to our Bonny Cottage. This endearing house is poised high in an area affectionately referred to as Happy Hill, less than a mile to the villages and Moonstone Beach (and a delightful walk if you don’t mind the hill). As one of the original early Cambria cabins, it was built in 1923\. Because of the age of the house it is not suitable for children under the age of eight. If you look you will find a sweet antique photograph of the original cabin and the owners on the wall just next to the front door. People speak of Cambria itself as a beloved, almost mythical place, a real-life Brigadoon. And there are as many ways to love Cambria as there are people who love it. There is the ocean, of course, and the picturesque east and west villages with their shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants less. Hearst Castle is ten minutes up the road at the foot of Big Sur and the elephant seals (and occasionally the Hearst Ranch zebras) are along the way. There is always wine tasting, sunset-watching, stargazing… and sometimes just sitting by the fire listening to the waves. This notebook offers some information and a few suggestions, but is in no way complete. It’s a walkable neighborhood if you like some inclines. Great for the pooch too! The house is cute and fairly small, the king bed was fine so my wife and I were satisfied. The kitchen was small but nice, ok for everything we needed to do. The only thing was the gas stove’s pilot light was not on so you’d have to light with a match. We did not cook anyway so no big deal. There are nice views from virtually every room. The antiques and old photos of people having fun add to the charm of the place. There are two decks to enjoy with a distant view of the ocean and a front yard that was frequented by groups of quail. Reviewer Comments: First, I’ll mention what desperately needs to be improved. Black-out curtains in BOTH bedrooms. ALL channels available to BOTH televisions. One of the loveseats in the living room should be replaced with a full couch so that vacationers can take a nap there if they choose. Now, on the positive side. EXTREMELY comfortable beds. Cozy and charming decor. (Loved the electric candles!) Great location - super close to both the town and to Moonstone Beach. Wonderful reading and DVD selection. Tons of inviting outdoor spaces with ocean views from the deck. Very personal touches made house feel like a temporary home rather than just a vacation rental. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Cute, small vintage house with vintage decor. The floor is slightly uneven due to the house's age but I had no problems with it. Very nice fenced back yard seating areas and the expansive front yard made for great privacy. The house also has a furnished deck with a nice ocean view. The kitchen is small but is just fine for a couple. I stayed a few days this time and would stay again. Very convenient to town. May 23, 2019 #### Cute cottage with fenced yard, dog friendly Very comfy space. Master bed was very good. Only lacking in space in the kitchen but we ate out mostly. Streaming on the TV's (smart tv's) would be a nice feature. Also suggested to Property Management that a good fry pan for eggs would be appreciated, cast iron or non stick. The yard was fabulous for our dogs, could let them out without having to be on a leash for their morning constitutionals. Also a great place to hang out under the huge oak tree. The neighborhood was quiet, lots of friendly people walking friendly dogs. The front deck with the furniture was fun, we actually got to sit in the sun a few days. The kitchen was very well stocked and we found everything that we needed. Loved all the candles that are in the living room. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was decorated with vintage furniture, photos, and decorations which were very charming. I would certainly stay here again! ##### Karen F. Jun 14, 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Cozy, peaceful cottage My husband and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this place. The bed in the master was very comfortable. Lots of windows throughout the house to let in the ocean breezes. We especially liked sitting at the cozy kitchen table for our morning coffee and breakfast while looking out at the trees and flowers. The kitchen was well stocked with most anything you need to prepare meals by simply adding your ingredients of choice. There was not a dishwasher but we don’t mind washing dishes. We felt like we stepped back in time enjoying the antiques and old photos on the walls of couples and friends enjoying themselves. There were lots of books and movies to watch if you desired to do so. We weren’t far from shopping and places to eat and only about 15 minutes from Hearst Castle.
