HISTORY: Cabo Frio is the seventh oldest city in Brazil, founded on November 13, 1615\. The Vila Nova region grew as an extension of the historical center, following the urban development driven by the salt industry in the 19th century. The salt of Cabo Frio, extracted from the salt flats of the Araruama Lagoon, was for many years the main economic engine of the city, which became the largest national producer and had its architecture and customs influenced by this activity.
