House of Piellas and its gardens are considered monuments of public interest. The house is located in the village of Cabeceiras de Basto, the central location to visit the north of Portugal: cities as Guimarães, Chaves, Braga and Porto. The house is characterized by large and cozy spaces and includes 7 bedrooms, 5 of them suites, 2 kitchens, dining and living room. Outdoor spaces are unique. With gardens over 150 years old, a fantastic pool with lots of sun and fantastic lawn, organic vegetable garden and farm animals. These surroundings complete the testimony of the history of this magnificent place. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Les enfants ont particulièrement apprécié les animaux ainsi que la piscine. De très beaux espaces verdoyant et très bien entretenu. Seule petit hic la basse court au réveil mais c'est le prix à payer pour le bonheur des enfants. Nous remercions le papa et la maman de Joao de l’accueil très chaleureux qu'ils nous ont réservé et les explications qu'ils nous ont transmises sur l'histoire de cette très belle maison familiale. Un remerciement à Antonio et son épouse qui ont su être à notre écoute tout en étant discrets. Maison spacieuse avec jardin magnifique. Lieu idéal pour faire des visites des principales villes du Nord (Braga, Guimaraes, Chaves...). On a même pu faire une mini croisière sur le Douro (de Pinhao).On a vraiment été tous séduits par l'habitation. Encore un grand MERCI aux propriétaires. Pour imaginer , lorsque nous étions dans la cour principale installés dans les fauteuils ; on s'attendait à tout moment à voir débarquer Zorro sur son cheval !!!!!!! Non ! sérieusement tout y était , les chambres chacune avec sa particularité , étaient confortables , propres et bien équipées et je tiens à signaler la qualité de la literie et du linge . Les pièces de la maison sont très spacieuses dans l'ambiance typique d'une hacienda avec , on le voit bien ,un entretien régulier . Pour dire vu la grandeur des lieux nous n'avons même pas utilisé toutes les pièces communes . Il faut absolument prendre le temps de se perdre dans le magnifique jardin qui nous offre multitude de fleurs et d'odeur. La vie à la ferme est ponctuée par les occupations des personnes qui sont sur le site mais qui savent être discret pour permettre à leurs hôtes la jouissance des lieux en toute tranquillité . Je recommande chaleureusement le lieu pour les amoureux de la nature ,des animaux et un retour aux choses essentielles de la vie . Et le meilleur pour la fin avec la piscine qui à son cadre privilégié au sein des arbres et du potager. PARFAIT. La présence des propriétaires est appréciable de part leur accueil chaleureux et leur mis à disposition pour notre bien être . Je pense avoir fait le tour avec mes mots de tout ce que j'ai rencontré dans cette fabuleuse demeure familiale ... Joao could not have been more helpful from the time we booked until even past the day we departed! We stayed for 9 nights. Some guests had left items on the estate, and he arranged to have them mailed to our next stop! He arranged tours, an amazing chef, Marta, and Isabelle, to help us with breakfast and tend to any needs we had during our stay. The little town is not touristy and worth a visit on its own merit. Now to the estate, having been in Joao's family for seven generations, I appreciate the effort and love that went into its current restoration and the generosity of the family to open it up for guests. From the well-equipped, comfortable rooms, to the pool, to the incredible grounds and formal garden, the place is a step back in time. I can not recommend Casa de Peillas more. Having visited 5-star hotels the world over, this rates among the very top, a rare joy in all ways. The pictures do not do it justice: the charming courtyards, comfortable interiors, and truly spectacular gardens and pool area. And the peacocks! It’s a thrill to encounter them when passing through “their” space which divides the main house from the pool house. Every detail reflects the owners’ commitment to honoring its heritage, and their own history as 9th-generation owners. But what’s most impressive is how the deeply personal antique furnishings and vintage elements (I’m thinking of cooking facilities, in particular, with multiple wood-burning cooking options to complement the modern hob/oven) are so welcoming and usable. And where modern standards are warranted, the property excels: brilliantly comfortable mattresses and modern bathrooms throughout, and well-stockeds kitchens (yes, two) with equipment to make and serve just about anything you could imagine. The bountiful produce from the gardens that appeared each morning in the kitchen - like magic - was a truly special touch. Joao is a charming and attentive host, responding within minutes to any query, and helping us organize food and excursions to the many wonderful sightseeing options in this spectacular and less-touristed part of Portugal - though I can't imagine it will stay as such much longer. ##### Karen B. He was kind, attentive, and attuned to the needs of our group. The property itself was both beautiful and filled with heart, soul, and history. Clearly the owners care deeply about the place. While the pictures are beautifully, they don't do it justice. Garden fresh produce, wandering peacocks, and burbling fountains are but a few of the touches that come to mind as I reflect on the place. I started every morning in the gardens, meditating and doing Tai Chi. After a hectic year, I felt nourished and rejuvenated ever day amidst an array of birdsongs, flowers, and well tended topiaries.. For an intergenerational family gathering, this was the ideal place to commune with each other and the region. I hope to come back again. In all my many years of traveling and adventuring, this place is atop my list of places to stay. I recommend this without reservation. Joao and family are the perfect hosts. ##### matthew s. We were blown away by Casa Da Piellas The house and gardens are breathtaking. Joao and his family are amazing hosts and incredibly helpful and attentive. Loved watching the Peacock strut about. The house is huge and comfortably accommodated 14 of us. There are lots of different communal spaces to eat and socialise. Pool is great and was a wonderful place to hang out whilst the weather was very hot. We loved the local river beaches and had some fun nights out at in the local town. Would 100% stay here again. Restoring this place was obviously a labour of love for Antonio and his sons. The garden was magical and having breakfast there, the perfect way to start a day. Séjour de 14 nuits en juillet 2022 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Chris and Jeanne A. 26 mai 2022 Points forts : Propreté #### Magnificent Getaway This farmhouse/estate (the main building dates back to the 1600's) is without a doubt the most beautiful vacation home of our long lives. It seems secluded. but there are lovely winding streets and mountain views that lead to small villages. You will have easy access to groceries stores and fine dining (Caneiro is a must-10 minute drive). Our host, Joao Almeida, greeted us with local wine and his mother's delicious apple tart. He gave us a tour of the surrounding manicured gardens with its many varieties of flowers and shrubs. The head gardener and grounds-keeper, Antonio, provided us with fresh vegetables, strawberries, and eggs. After exploring other towns (Guimaraes and Braga) we cherished our return to the quiet tree-lined entrance and pastoral setting. The peacefulness is sometimes punctuated by farm animals--which we absolutely loved (and miss!) The amenities are many--lovely pool that we were able to use in mid-May, very well stocked kitchen with bottles of local wine that were available for purchase, a grill, several dining rooms and an outdoor dining area. Before our departure, Joao told us of the estate's illustrious history and his family's loving restoration of this regional treasure. Casa de Piellas is special place indeed. A la llegada nos explicó todo sobre el funcionamiento de las cosas y la historia de la casa y su familia. A mayores nos dejó preparada una limonada, una tarta de manzana y dos botellas de vino. También estuve pendiente en todo momento por si surgía algún problema. Aún siendo invierno la casa es caliente. Las habitaciones muy amplias, las camas super cómodas y todo muy limpio. Cocina equipada, sitio para hacer barbacoa,.... Los jardines espectaculares y la piscina deseando disfrutarla como es debido en verano. Muchos juegos para entretener a los niños. Tal vez se echara en falta, ahora en invierno, una zona de sofás más amplia, pero en la cocina con la cocina de leña también se estaba muy bien. USA 5 oct. 2021 Points forts : Propreté #### Exceptional Property; Outstanding host It is hard to know where to start; everything about this property exceeded our expectations. It is so much more than what is in the listing. It is more than just a rental, it is a home full of family heirlooms and artifacts. Every room is interesting. From small rooms for intimate conversations to large gathering rooms that open to the formal gardens. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need. On warm nights we ate outside at the tables in the courtyard, and on the few nights it rained we ate in the formal dining room. An incredible space. The gardens are a great place to wander and at night are magical with the lighted fountain and shadows from the topiary. Just beyond the gardens through the gates the property extends with wonderful places to explore. On warm days we used the pool and watched the peacocks stroll by and at night the patio by the pool was a great place to sit and star gaze. Joao and his father were wonderful hosts. Very attentive but never intrusive. Joao immediately responds to any request, and his father offered a wonderful history of the casa. Antonio was a delight to watch as he gathered the geese nightly for their dinner or moved the sheep from one field to another and Gloria offered an endless supply of fresh vegetables from the garden. This is the perfect place for a family reunion, or to use as a base for exploring Northern Portugal. We could not have asked for more. ##### Rick F. Habitaciones muy comodas especialmente para ir con niños. Multiples ambientes con encanto como los jardines, comedores, piscina etc. Perfecto para pasar unos dias de desconexión y contacto con la naturaleza. El propietario, Joao, muy amable, atento y siempre disponible para cualquier duda. Tambien es de especial mención el Sr. Antonio y su mujer, cuidadores de la finca y siempre muy atentos con los niños enseñándoles todos los animales de la casa (gallinas, ocas, ovejas…). Greeted by Joao and his family with chilled Vinho Verde and homemade blueberry tart - touring the house, gardens, pool area & farm yard we were stunned by the holiday venue that was to be ours for the next 10 days. Whilst retaining it's historical integrity, the house is ideal for a family holiday - well equipped kitchens, we loved the smaller garden kitchen with wood/pizza oven. Extensive furnished outdoor space, many hours spent in the courtyard, and sat on the kitchen step watching the sun set. Clean modern bathrooms. Simply furnished, individually designed, comfortable bedrooms. The 'farm yard' link between house & pool was a great hit with our children - aged 15 month to 5 years who loved the peacock, hens & geese. The pool and garden room a great success, the hammocks and woods a calm place to while away a quiet hour. The formal garden a real treat and finally the 'Garden of Eden' an amazing vegetable garden - we so enjoyed the generous gifts of fresh fruit and vegetables readily given. The town is within walking distance - a lovely traditional square to chill like a local in the warm evenings. The nearby river beaches the ideal place to really cool off. Everything about Casa de Piellas exceeded our expectations and we look forward to returning in the future with our expanding family - especially once the project Joao plans for the property is completed! Séjour de 4 nuits en décembre 2018 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Kirsten M. 12 sept. 2018 #### Beautiful expansive rural villa perfect for the whole family Our family stayed at Casa Piellas for a week- 14 of us ranging in age from 2- 72yrs and everyone had an amazing time! The property is beautiful and expansive and the house has many separate areas - so everyone can be together at the pool or in the courtyard or you can find a place of peace and quiet in the gardens or one of the rooms. Joáo was a very friendly, generous and responsive host both before the booking and during our stay, allowing us early access to the property (our landed early morning) and welcoming us with lemonade, coffee and homemade blueberry pie. The grounds are spectacular - a large, formal garden and larger wooded areas and fields to explore. We spent a lot of time at the pool area which is lovely. Great pool for little kids to paddle on the step and the older ones to jump around in a large area and even pool toys to play with. Rooms were all well furnished and maintained. The kitchen is gorgeous - the real heart of the home, and the cooking room with the wood oven is a wonderful feature especially for those who enjoy cooking - we made great lamb and pizza's in the oven. There are loads of utensils, crockery and cutlery. We didn't use the impressive formal dining room, rather having our meals in the downstairs garden room or outside in the courtyard. It says something about the villa that there are at least 3 areas that can accommodate 14 people meals. The area is great to explore - we walked to nearby river pools to swim, there is a deer and play park just up the road and numerous little villages to explore close by. We did a wine tasting at Santa Cristina which was also highly recommended. The only tiny issue is that there often isn't a lot of space to unpack clothes in the rooms. But that is very minor issue. Overall it is a incredible experience. We were planning when we can return! ##### Kirsten M. The manor is very close to the centre of town with supermarkets, butcher, fresh produce market. Séjour de 7 nuits en août 2018 ### 10/10 – Excellent #### Björn P. 12 août 2018 #### Fantastiskt lantligt boende i vacker miljö Vi var ett antal barnfamiljer som delade detta hus under två veckor i juli. Som mest var vi under några dagar 18 personer. Alla som var med var mycket nöjda med huset. Det är ett vackert historiskt hus med en ganska otrolig trädgård. Vi uppskattade särskilt dagar och kvällar i den fina innergården. Sovrummen är bra, särskilt de renoverade rummet som nås från utsidan. De flesta sängar var helt ok, någon var lite väl hård. Flera utrymmen som den stora matsalen under huset och den inne i huset användes inte alls av oss. Många älskade det lantliga köket i husets centrum. Poolområdet var mycket fint, med hängmattor och gott om solstolar. Det finns även en barndel att plaska i för de minsta. Wifi fungerade OK med hastighet på drygt 10 Mbit/s. Något rum saknade täckning. Ägarfamiljen var väldigt trevlig och hjälpsam. Antonio som sköter huset, djuren och odlingarna var inte så lätt att kommunicera med, men kom flera gånger med grönsaker och blåbär från odlingarna. Det var mycket uppskattat! Stalldelen där det fanns höns och gäss var charmig på håll men lite slitet. Det är kul med djur, men det är inte helt idealiskt med frigående gäss på ytor där barnen går till poolen. Fanns olika håll att gå men detta var den närmsta vägen. Påfåglarna gav ju en alldeles speciell aura till huset och dem skulle man ju inte vilja vara utan. Djuren låter tidigt på morgonen så det är bäst att stänga fönsterluckorna och ladda med öronproppar om man är känslig. Vi var positivt överraskade av hur fint det var i regionen. Utflykter gjordes till vingårdar, flera olika vattenfall, Duerofloden, äventyrsparker, naturparker och Porto med flera andra städer. Vädret var behagligt med temperaturer kring 25 grader. Fråga efter att se de stängda delarna av huset om du är intresserad av husets historia. Det är nästan som ett museum. Tack för att vi fick hyra er familjs hus. Det var en oförglömlig upplevelse och annorlunda mot andra villor vi hyrt i Europa. ##### Björn P. Gelegen aan de rand van het stadje met een volop buiten gevoel. Oude wijnkelder, steenoven, biologische moestuin met dagelijks verse geplukte groenten. Uitgebreide levende haven, kippen, ganzen , schapen en niet te vergeten pauwen. Wij leefden mee met de dood van een jong pauwtje, maar er kwamen ook 4 jonge pauwtjes uit het ei! En... er waren natuurlijk de begeleidende geurtjes en mn geluiden van al deze beestjes. Schitterende siertuinen met fonteinen, perken, plaatsjes om tot rust te komen. In de wilde tuin een poel met libelles en salamanders. Bij het zwembad een groot speelhol met tafeltennistafel en allerlei anders spelen. Heerlijke zonnestoelen op de terrassen rond het zwembad. Zes slaapkamers, heel mooie en ook iets mindere. Centrale plek in het huis was de grote koele eetkeuken met een fantastische centrale tafel. Aansluitend de zonovergoten binnenplaats om heerlijk te eten met zn allen. Alles ademde de toegewijde en liefhebbende aandacht van de eigenaren, die geen moeite teveel vonden. Erf, tuin en zwembad werden geluidloos verzorgd door Antonio. Een prachtige plek om tot rust te komen en met zn allen te genieten van het goede leven. ##### Cato L.
