Providing absolute privacy - ideal for groups but also very popular with couples who want an exclusive hideaway with discreet privacy and maximum space. Fully licenced, it was officially voted to be in the top 10% of vacation properties in the world by Tripadvisor. Conveniently situated a walking distance to Jolly Harbour complex, the 5\* Sugar Ridge properties and beaches, Ideal if you want sheer luxury, serenity and absolute privacy, yet just across the road from restaurants and two of the best beaches on Antigua. Also convenient for the Jolly Harbour shops, golf, supermarket and many restaurants. Plus being situated next door to Sugar Ridge, you have instant access to their restaurant, gym, spa or beauty facilities. This property is in a league of its own perched on a massive stone plinth, built with the sole aim to accommodate up to 8 guests in absolute comfort, plus offering unrivalled 360' views of the Caribbean & local countryside. The infinity pool here is the largest in the area and house has been designed around the Caribbean climate and thus primarily for ‘al fresco’ living. Just a short walk across the road are two of the best beaches on Antigua - of different characters, but both having pristine white powder sand, pure blue water and good beach restaurants. Jolly Beach is the more commercial of the two with motorised water sports, vendor’s stalls and several beach restaurants. Valley Church is much quieter however also has a beach restaurant for all day drinks & meals, but is backed by lakes and greenery. The location of Cactus is just 20 minutes from the capital St Johns or a 30 minute private transfer from the Airport - this is a complimentary service we provide guests. At Cactus each of the bedrooms is oversized; naturally all have ceiling fans and individual air conditioning, plus the modern bathrooms all have large walk-in showers and /or bath. The kitchen is huge, having expansive marble worktops, top end appliances and comprehensively equipped for self catering. A professional private chef is available for lunch and dinner. Cactus was designed with emphasis on outdoor living, so has external dining areas, BBQ's on the patio, large pool deck which give the choice of sun and shade areas. Your privacy and solitude is guaranteed as you are spoilt with the space available - indoor living amounts to over 4000 sq ft then another 6000 sq ft of the three gardens and terraces. Also you have the largest private infinity pool in the area to swim or lounge taking in the ocean views. Upstairs Cactus has a large covered terrace and the BBQ deck. Indoors there are dining areas, lounge and kitchen, all having wide double doors to the exterior patios - these designed to maximise the natural light and the wind's cooling. The lounge has free unlimited high speed 4G broadband and WiFi for your use. Cactus's infinity pool deck is equipped with comfortable loungers -for young children the pool has a shallow side section and at night you can programme the underwater lighting to give a light show of your choice . If you want to be more active, the upper garden has outdoor table tennis and darts. The mature gardens are extensive, filled with lush vegetation, plenty of flowers and many palms plus of course an abundance of cacti ! For your reassurance we have Hazel our 24 / 7 Estate Manager , who will look after your needs, great or small during your stay. On arrival all guests are met at the airport for complimentary private transfers by 'Lava' our driver, then at the Villa by Hazel. Both Hazel and Lava are at your disposal, should you have any problems, need any transportation or general advice. This 'on demand' concierge service is virtually beyond limit and almost any special requirements can be organised. Due to its hillside location, Cactus is unsuitable for wheelchair users or those with walking difficulties. If mobility is a problem we can suggest an alternative nearby property -please ask. It is simple to get around the Island by either car, taxi or bus, which incidentally drive on the right hand side. The Capital St Johns is home of the cruise liners and international shopping can be found in the newly restored Heritage Quay. Only a few yards away, you walk back into history with the old character laden buildings and streets; all safe to walk unlike some Caribbean destinations. In the countryside the many abandoned sugar mills act as a reminder of bygone trade and slavery. Nelsons dockyard is a fully restored working harbour which has won many awards and only a short distance away is Shirley heights and its colonial fort , with special views over both the sea and countryside. Also worth a visit is Betty's Hope which was Antigua’s first sugar estate, some restoration of the ruins have taken place and the Mill is now totally intact. Alternatively if relaxing on a sandy beach is your preference, you will be spoilt for choice, as it is reputed that Antigua has a different beach for everyday of the year, some of the best being just a short walk away from Cactus House. Apart from the beaches there is plenty to do so perhaps try :- Private Yacht Charter can be arranged for those staying at Cactus House. This is a charter for just your party on a superb modern 50ft yacht with an experienced crew, who pander to your every need, including lunch with fine wines. Throughout the day all food and drink is complimentary. Sunbathe on the deck, relax in the shade, snorkel & swim off the side, ride the dingy and perhaps take a turn at the helm if you wish - this is wonderful day of pampering. For younger ones there is the Donkey sanctuary which is a simple establishment, but captivating for children who can ‘adopt’ the donkey of their choice. A small fee will make them eligible for a certificate & photo, plus regular updates on their new pet. The sanctuary cares for abandoned, injured and abused animals from all over the island and is a charity. Entry is free. Alternatively there is a private island reserve with giant tortoises, which also hosts iguanas, parrots and other endangered Caribbean species. Additionally there is a rare chance to swim with Sting-rays at Stingray City . A high speed boat takes you out to a sea pontoon, where you can stand or swim in the warm shallow water. Usually about 30 - 40 rays come in from the Ocean and you can then both stroke, hold and feed them. This is a well organised professional excursion, totally safe for children. We found that the house had so much space and it’s clearly well maintained, modern, plus spotlessly clean. The pool and deck are just outstanding with stunning views over the Caribbean; sunsets over Monserat were an unbelievable bonus. The peaceful location is perfect for the splendid nearby beaches. You can walk to the large supermarket in Jolly harbour where there are a few shops and a good choice of evening restaurants.We are regular long-haul travellers, but without doubt this is the finest vacation property we have experienced anywhere. We took the owner’s recommendation to use the taxi driver paid for as part of our stay and rented a car from Sunny’s Rentals. The vehicle was at the house once we arrived. Hazel checked us in and gave us a tour of the home. The infinity pool and view from the property is amazing. We spent most of our time on the second floor balcony while we were at the home. Communication with the owner and Hazel was always immediate and clear. It’s very close to Jolly Harbor and beautiful beaches such as Darkwood and Ffryers. The villa itself is a clean, well furnished property that is well designed and comfortable. The spacious rooms were nicely furnished, creating an atmosphere of comfort and ease. The private pool, shimmering under the warm sun, was the perfect place to unwind and soak up the view and surroundings. Special shout out to Hazel (property manager), Lava (driver) and Iris (car rental) who were exceptional. Their warm hospitality and attentiveness made me feel like a cherished guest, not just to the villa but to Antigua. They were always ready to assist with anything, from arranging private tours to responding to WhatsApp messages. Beyond the amenities, what truly made my stay special was the sense of peace and privacy that Cactus offers. It was the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a place where I could truly relax and recharge. I would wholeheartedly recommend Cactus House, Jolly Harbour and Antigua to anyone seeking a truly memorable getaway. It is a hidden gem that will leave you longing for a return visit. Couple of things for consideration: 1\. There is quite a steep climb up to the villa. With heavy suitcases, this is a challenge (up and down). 2\. All bedrooms have AC but the lounge and kitchen, which are upstairs, do not. Heat rises and it can get uncomfortably warm there. Fans helped a little. Enjoy! ##### Ravinder S. Big Lava will pick you up and drop you off at the airport. Hazel was waiting at the house to show us around and to give us her contact info if any questions arose. Iris will have a rental car delivered to the property and we didn’t even have to return it when we were done they came and picked it up. The home was larger than we needed for our family of four, but we loved the photos and the location so we splurged. We were so glad we did. The views were amazing and we miss them already. The location is perfect and very close to many beautiful beaches. Literally a few minute drive away. Grocery store is just as close. The pool was refreshing after a warm day exploring the island. The bedroom ACs blew cold and we slept comfortably at night. House was fully stocked for our comfort. Roger and Hazel were a pleasure to work with. Overall I would highly recommend staying at cactus house. You will not be disappointed. Other things we recommend, get a Jeep, take the Jabberwocky private sailing day trip, go to Shirley heights for the bbq dinner and Carribean music. Other reviews have mentioned the positives and I would agree with them all but I do want to emphasize how gorgeous the view is. Jolly Harbour is wonderful to watch from the pool area or the outdoor dining area. To attain that view however, the property does have to be situated high above the harbour leading to a steep driveway. It is hard to describe how steep it is but trust me, you will get used to it and do not let it discourage you from walking down to the water. Another fun fact that coffee drinkers will want to take note of- you will not find cream for your coffee at any restaurant/coffee shop- only milk. Creamer is available at the supermarket however. Overall I would highly recommend starting at this property when visiting Antigua. ##### Paul L. We were once again very impressed with the accommodations. The rooms were spacious and well-maintained, and the property owner, Roger, Property Manager, Hazel, and driver, Lava were incredibly friendly and helpful. The outdoor pool is a fantastic area to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Jolly Harbour and Caribbean Sea, and to soak up the sun. There are several local restaurants within walking distance, they are a great place to get delicious meals with spectacular views. One of the best parts was the amazing views of the sea from the upper terrace. Overall, Cactus House Paradise was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the beautiful island of Antigua. Highly recommend! Trip Highlights: Our youngest daughter got engaged, we had a gender reveal from our oldest daughter & son-in-law, and my husband and I celebrated 30 years of marriage. The situation is perfect. – perched on the hillside above Jolly Harbour it has spectacular views from the pool and terrace areas, day or night. However, these views come at a price as the climb up to the villa is very steep and can be difficult to negotiate in wet weather, at night or with bags of shopping. The supermarket at Jolly Harbour is within walking distance, but we quickly decided that a hire car was infinitely preferable to carrying shopping back up the hill. There are numerous bars and restaurants in the area and we tried most of them! The best one we found was Sheer Rocks which is located at the Coco Bay Resort, about a mile and a half from the villa. Overall we had a fabulously relaxing time at Cactus House and would highly recommend it to anyone. We would also like to thank Hazel and Lava for making us feel so welcome and at home. There were issues with the internet during our stay but Hazel the housekeeper contacted the provider FLOW to make sure it was sorted asap. Both Hazel and Lava were very helpful during our stay. The villa has beautiful views over Jolly Beach and is very spacious. Would recommend a car as after a long day at the beach it’s quite a climb up hill. My family, friends and I (8) stayed at the Cactus House May 5-12, 2023\. (Off-season, fewer crowds which was nice, but also, lobster was out of season, which was a bummer). When we were researching places to stay in Antigua, Cactus House caught our attention right away! We researched further, and found that all the reviews were great and ultimately reserved. Roger was great to work with always responded quickly to any questions that I had prior to our arrival. Upon our arrival, we were met by Hazel and Dionne, who gave us a tour of the house and provided all the ins and outs of the property. It was comforting to know that Hazel was also available for any questions or concerns we had throughout our visit. We found the house to be very spacious, clean and well-equipped with everything we needed. Starter packs of TP, juice, water, hand soap, etc were much appreciated. We had read about mosquitoes, but found very few. Driveway/steps to house are very steep, but our group was able to navigate them and it provided a nice workout when returning with groceries! We especially enjoyed our mornings and evenings on the deck. Location is within walking distance to a few restaurants and beaches. In addition, a well-stocked grocery store in Jolly Harbor, with a liquor store onsite. We chose not to rent a car, and were very happy with that decision once we arrived to the island! We utilized Lava’s transport services to travel to distant locations and the grocery store. If it wasn’t for Lava, we would not have been able to experience as much as we did. So thankful for his kindness, professionalism and knowledge! He was absolutely wonderful and we can’t speak more highly of him! He is a treasure! If you’re looking for a wonderful family-friendly property with breathtaking views, beautiful pool, and proximity to stunning beaches and delicious food, look no further than the Cactus House! The team at Cactus House were a pleasure to work with, so wonderful and incredibly hospitable from confirmation of our booking to arrival. House has everything you could possibility need for holiday with family. Stunning infinity pool overlooking turquoise water, outdoor balcony where we ate during the majority of our stay, BBQ and small outdoor area for children to play. Property is just a short stroll to many amazing Restaurant/Bars, including Grocery Store if you should need supplies and Jolly Harbor Beach. We were provided a list of recommendations from Roger after booking which assisted us in having an amazing holiday! We had lunch at Sheer Rocks, day at Ffryes Beach and Dinner at Al Porto. All we highly recommend. Had a spectacular time at Shirley Heights but suggest getting there earlier than 4pm to grab a rum punch and secure a spot to view the amazing sunset as it was very busy Sunday. AMENITIES We were greeted upon arrival to a clean home with beach towels, each bedroom/bath had linens, towels, bottled water and toilet paper. Kitchen fully equipped with pots/pans, cutting boards, cups, utensils, toasters, coffee pot, and so much more. Wi-fi available throughout the home without issue. Washer/Dryer. HOUSE Bedrooms on 2nd level, 2 with pool/water views. All bedrooms have a nicely updated bath. Half bath by pool. Upstairs 3rd level is open and inviting with vaulted ceiling, living room, kitchen, and several doors opening to the outdoors. Loved the layout and enjoyed every minute on the balcony. Tile everywhere which makes it easy to keep clean. Felt very safe with or without locking gated front entry. TRANSPORTATION We were able to organize transportation with Lava during our stay. Easy to schedule via WhatsApp. Took us everywhere we requested including Shirley Heights. Always arrived early and always available. Highly recommend instead of renting a vehicle but note it is a little pricey. Would absolutely recommend Cactus House and stay again. ##### Lisa B. We took some of the suggestions noted in the packet and were very pleased. Have Tracey from Big Head Lobster prepare an in home dinner to fully enjoy the setting of Cactus House while dining on some of the best Caribbean food you will have. The very pleasant property manager Hazel was readily available for any questions or needs. Lava the driver prioritizes Cactus House guests and will insure someone is available, if not him, to take you where you need to go.
