Located on the southwestern tip of Mount Desert Island, Bass Harbor is a charming and authentic Maine fishing village known for its scenic harbor, working lobster boats, and rugged coastal beauty. Unlike the busier towns on the island, Bass Harbor offers a quiet, laid-back atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a more off-the-beaten-path experience.  
  
One of the area’s most iconic landmarks is the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, perched on a dramatic rocky coastline and offering one of the most photographed sunset views in Maine. The village is also home to some of the island’s freshest seafood, with local lobster shacks serving up the day’s catch straight from the harbor.  
  
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby trails in Acadia National Park, including Ship Harbor and Wonderland, both offering easy coastal walks with stunning ocean views. Bass Harbor is also the departure point for ferries to Swan’s Island and Frenchboro, perfect for adventurers looking to explore Maine’s offshore communities.
